Can we take a moment to laugh heartily at Everton?

Everton are the same every year, start off well, after spending decent money in the transfer window, people think they can break into the top 4, then they started to stutter, slip down the table and finish mid table as per usual. It's what they do.

Football 365 actually nailed it pretty well in the final day conclusions.

I think they suffer from an inferiority complex with us and the other top teams. It has to be a mentality thing because they have a good set of players.

They exemplify just how hard it is to 'buy' into the top 4. It even took City a few seasons for finish in the top four after Sheik Mansour bought them

The amount of stick we get from the ,media and rival fans yet these lot get away scot free. What a pathetic season yet again. No europe to contend with, spent over £500m in the past few season and yet still only managed a 10th place finish.

And I'll guarantee that, when they're spending even more crazy amounts in the summer, people will be in here ranting about how they've done great business, spent a gazillion quid & showing that tight **** Levy how things should be done.

And there's still people who believe we should be looking at Ancelotti to become our manager.

Crazy.

Well this is just bound to go down brilliantly.....

Surely that's just top class trolling from The Athletic? Of all the names to mention, they pull out an ex Liverpool manager and a club Legend! ?

Makes you realise just how quick a club can make a manager's transfer happen if they really want him and he wants them regardless of contractual obligations.

Tempting to think that, although Real Madrid are a bigger club and maybe threw money at it quicker.

Also, Ancelotti didn’t have that great a season so maybe Everton weren’t too fussed as they didn’t have to pay sacking fee?

Mediocre season, not able to reach Europe cup and spent money on big names. Smart move leaving now before the sack

In honesty I feel for Everton. Great coup to land a manager like Ancelotti and then to see this happen. Could have happened to us a few years back.

With it happening so quickly I can only imagine the Everton board were amenable to the idea of him leaving as well rather than trying to hold him to his contract and ward off interest.

If anything, it will mean Levy will have to pull finger out (if he isn't already). It's more competition for a decent coach. Everton have a superb squad rhat should really have been fighting it out for champs. Regardless of covid. They are an attractive proposition for a coach....imo, of course.

Really!?

To me they've got a squad full of players who are much of a muchness. On paper they're all decent but there's no variation at all.

It's a strange one for Everton. Their season was a major disappointment after a promising start and while it's not ideal to have more managerial upheaval, it's not like Ancellotti distinguished himself there as yet. The question as always with new managers is, can you find someone better?

He only had five games at Goodison Park with fans. Maybe in a no-covid world he would have felt some loyalty but I guess Ancelotti has no connection with the club but to Madrid fans he is a hero.
