Does he really need to hold onto the ball up top? It's a position where often the striker needs less touches with this system. Lots of quick one and two touch football in and around the box. He needs to be sharp and quick to shoot at the end of it.

Personally think Son can be played into form playing up front. He will have to take ownership and be the on field captain and genuinely lead from the front. Meaning he needs to take the shots we know he's capable of, rather than doing too much and fluffing his chances.

He's always been great at instinctive shots, and always fluffs the ones where he has too much time. Anges system requires strikers to be instinctive and quick with the shot, which Son can do. Big game for him today.

Seven defensive players on the bench. We really needed another CF.

Maybe but if Son is moved to centre forward we have plenty of cover across the attack. We have Gil out and Johnson is not registered for this one. We already have Richarlison and Perisic on the bench so I think we have enough attacking players. It's just whether Son and Richarlison are good enough, Son needs to rediscover his form and Richarlison needs a few goals.

Edit: forgot we also have Lo Celso out as an attacking central midfielder too.

think there was more to it tbh. Probably emphasising to dobby how shit our replacements are. If we go through fine but maybe playing the long game. Think Phillips on the bench is another huge statement that he’s not going to just be a yes man.

Let's face it that extra speed would have got Son to a couple of balls that Richarlison couldn't quite reach (or at least not quick enough to get a shot off) and get an early shot/finish off.
