Reading also had a knack of picking up good players from Ireland, Shane Long and Kevin Doyle to name a couple off the top of my head.

That said, when I read he'd moved from Corinthians (first thought was, in Brazil?) to Cork City....I was like, well that's a weird a move, haha!

Spurs have a reputation for developing young players and giving them a chance in the first team. Players such as Townsend and Kane are testament to that. The addition of Pochettino to the Club emphasizes the development aspect of the Club. All of which should be important in helping Brian Lenihan to make a decision to go with Spurs...

Wasn't talking about that at all - maybe misunderstood my post. Just hate the title 'the next....'. The player himself might well be the 'dogs bollocks' or in fact the new 'zennor zorro' (a local joke for Coopsie for those that don't know), but why can't he be just the first Brian Lenahan (unless he isn't of course!!). :D

No, I'd be really happy if we could pick up someone from St Blazey who no one had ever heard about. Fanbloodytastic. (y)

It's not too long ago (around 2001 I think) we were actually looking at/watching a lad who played for St Blazey, mate. I think he was called Dominic Richardson.

And you're right, I totally misunderstood your post.

Sorry mate, before the 2 players you mentioned, who was the last young player we developed and gave a chance in the first team? Was it Ledgeley King?

I'd say we are far from having a reputation for giving young players a chance in the first team. If anything, we've got a reputation for getting young players in, sending them out on loan, not really giving them a fair chance to prove themselves in our first team, then selling them when we've run out of clubs wanting to loan our youngsters.

Nigel Martyn? He played for them. I know it wasn't him, but that's their claim to fame.

How about young players such as Huddlestone, Bale, Walker, Naughton, Rose, Livermore, and Lennon?

All young. All been given their break at Spurs in recent times...

Yeah big Mart forged heck of a career for himself. It was definitely Dominic Richardson who we were 'scouting', though. He was a striker, played for the likes of Blazey, Launceston & Liskeard.

Ah you were including players we'd brought in & were already playing professionally for other clubs (apart from Livermore). Sorry fella..

Absolutely. Young players from another club (as Lenihan would be) brought in from the lower leagues and developed by Tottenham Hotspur into Premier League players.

Hudd was an England under 21 at Derby, Bale was a Welsh international at Sunderland, Naughton was an England under 21 at Sheffield, Walker an under 19 there) Rose and Lennon were both developed at Leeds under 17 caps and Lennon Under 19 cap

Jake's really the only home developed player, granted we have given the others opportunities but a lot of clubs sign a lot of young under 17/19/21 International players. I don't see us having a particularly great record and our own youth development has been pretty sparse over the years

But all the players were young and unproven. Spurs brought them on and made them into Premier League players.

Agree that it would be better if we developed more players from the pre-teens. But at least Spurs does its best to hunt down and bring in youngsters with potential. And then do something with that potential.

Didn't Bale play for a team a little further south than the Tees, Tyne, Tweed and Trent?

Yeah they have brought young players in and developed them on but not that many compared to a number of other clubs, Wenger is always bringing in younger players, granted we have a better track record than say City, Chavs or United where young players they buy tend to be more established, but I think quite a number of less wealthy PL clubs tend to try and either develop their own or buy a few players starting to come through at lower clubs.
We have also had a few failures like Bostock and Parrett, although those sounded more down to the players particularly Bostock
