If we get Berahino in but fail on a CM, its pretty annoying, and will likely cost us points, but gives Dier a chance to grow alongside the other youngsters in the middle. Would still be a decent window in that case.

If we don't sign a single backup striker for Kane and are reduced to convincing ourselves that Chadli or N'Jie can do the lone role in the Prem, then in no way could this be anything other than a balls up..

I generally agree but I think not getting a decent DM would be more than annoying. Dier, Alli, Mason, Bentaleb - not exactly a lot of experience there. I honestly think a decent midfielder would transform our team, and is the most important position to address (followed closely by another striker).

This has been a very good window so far, especially with the signing of Son, but a starting-quality midfielder would make this a great window. If we could somehow add Berahino (which I think seems unlikely now) it would be a brilliant job all round.

A transfer window can't be judged until the season has finished. Last summer, people said Southampton had the worst transfer window of all time, selling pretty much their entire team and buying a bunch of relative unknowns, but looking back in hindsight, it was probably one of the greatest ever transfer windows conducted by any club, ever, in that they got massively inflated incoming fees for players that were not that good outside of the Pochettino "system over individuals" approach and then replaced them with cheaper players that were able to make the step-up to perform straight away.

For me, this will only be the best transfer window ever if we have the best deadline day ever. Berahino + an outrageous, unexpected signing (like with VDV) in CM.

I'm not saying it has been bad so far, but we've signed truly great players in the past. Signings like Modric, VDV, Lloris, Berbatov, Keane (1st time), Carrick, Davids, Klinsmann and Ginola all truly excited me. Go back a bit further and we signed Sheringham, Lineker, Gazza, Waddle etc.

Son and NJie could both do extremely well, without living up to those standards!

It is, but I think you completely missed my point: Even if they do extremely well, they could still be a long way off some of our past top class signings, so people are being quite optimistic by discussing this summer as the "best transfer window ever".

A DM gone you say? And you realise Ade and Lamela haven't gone don't you?
With the addition of a DM, Lamela Ade and Lennon gone, it was in the typing and the reading it seems. Yes I realise they hadn't happened it was more a what if statement.

Well, Lamela isn't going anywhere, not sure why you'd want him gone particularly, it's not as if we'll be getting 20 million from him. Neither is Ade if we're not getting another striker.

In the current inflated market, you don't normally get a world class player for the prices we've just paid. To put things into context, the £16.5m we spent on Modric is circa £30m in today's money, and the £30-35m we sold him for is circa £50-60m.

This window was always going to be about setting up the foundation for the next few years, especially with the stadium coming up. Bring in young talent, develop them until the stadium is up and running and we're relatively debt-free, then use the extra money to strengthen gradually. It'll be a rough ride at times, but Arsenal have shown that it's worth the wait if done properly. Strap yourselves in.
Best window ever though?

Fool eh? For having an opinion ok.
lol, sorry. But were you actually being serious posting this? Which signings make it the best window ever? I feel like you didn't really explain yourself in your opening post. That's what led me to thinking you might be a fool.

I agree I explained what I was getting at further down clarifying more which seemed to get more favourable ratings . In my defense I was baking in the sun by a pool in Florida I'm back in the miserable North London cold now so things are clearer lol.

I know it's a boring, sitting on the fence opinion, but I'll wait until we see the players in action before judging them. I was over the moon with the post-Bale spending, but look how that turned out... ugh.

In terms of outgoings and getting the squad together, it's definitely been one of our better windows for sure. If we bring in Berahino and a DM, and manage to get shot of Lennon and Adebayor, it'll be the best in terms of getting everything we wanted done. We didn't lose a key player, we got rid of all the deadwood, and we brought in the players we wanted. I doubt we've ever had a window where all of those criteria were matched together.

I did, but I get you now.

No, just one person is suggesting that and that's the fool who created this thread. How could this possibly be the best ever.

Why do people think they can be rude on an internet forum. No need for it. We all support spurs and are entitled to our opinions.
If we were in a pub i doubt you'd be calling people fools. So don't do it here.

for me this is the best, irrespective of a lack of a new DM and despite our business not being completed before the season starts. With a DM, lamela, Ade and Lennon gone ( not because I necessarily want them all gone) poch has his team he can build success with . Exciting times I'm guessing we won't see the best of this new side for a couple of months really hope poch can make it work with his system. COYS

I think our strategy has been much better this window.

Taking a financial hit and getting rid of players the manager really didn't want is the right way forward.

Buying a Prem ready right back and an experienced centre back has helped our options there. Selling Kaboul and Chiriches was the right thing to do.

It seems Paulinho, Capoue, Stambouli and Soldado had no place in the managers plans either.

Son and Njie have much needed pace.

We still have Lennon, Adebayor and possibly one of Townsend and Lamela to release and we need a striker and a midfielder.

So for me not the best window ever, but a step in the right direction.
