He did clarify afterwards that it wasn't directed at AVB, I was skeptical so I looked through his timeline and just before the tweet he was having a conversation with a bloke and they were talking about the bloke hating his boss. Nothing in it.

I'm not going to get into why we should or should not sell him (I don't think we should by the way), but I am curious as to what would be a reasonable fee that we would receive for him. Benny's a quality LB in a world where established ones are pretty hard to find or are readily available.

If we are going to go and sell off Benny, there really needs a hefty fee in it for us (not 5m) and we need to invest back into a LB of the future in the event Rose is not sufficient. I'd like to see Massadio Haidara come here to provide that cover/upside in the event Rose falters.

Coentrao has fallen out of favour with Real - could be good.

Don't see I problem me and my boss hardly talk and it would be fair to say we don't get on at all! As long as you stay professional it doesn't matter.

There is no chance of us selling the only left back we have for 5 million or even for 10 million for that matter.

He isn't a good left back, he's a LM/LW like Bale.

They overpaid for him (€30m) big time only to play him out of position.

Very strange if latest ITK about Assou-Ekotto being fit for a while / available as he should be playing if this is the case.

If AVB does want him out I hope we make signing a left-back a top priority in January as we've been very weak in that position this season and really would prefer Jan in the middle, only being used at left-back in emergencies.

If our special relatioship with Madrid works we should be able to get Coentrao...

Sounds funny, even if they are willing to sell for a cut price I don't think their qualitiy players are interested...

Just rumours but if the PSG rumours are true (they are willing to offer 15m!) then I would say it is a deal! Ekotto is a quality LB, no doubt, but his lack of "bite" in his tackle and in the air leaves the defense exposed at times. Lucas Digne could be an excellent replacement should Ekotto be sold...

I think that Digne would have to wait for a season or two to be honest.

Highly-rated left-back Lucas Digne has penned a new contract at Lille, keeping him at the Ligue 1 outfit until the summer of 2017.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the course of the past 12 months, becoming an established member of the first-team squad.

Digne signed a new contract very recently.

Oh ok, I missed that one. But it could simply be that he will now cost more. Admittedly, he is still young so no guarantee he is the real deal but he seem like a future quality LB.

If anyone wants to know who'd be on our shortlist to replace him then just find the list of players who's contracts expire in the summer that someone recently posted in a thread on here, then go through that list and find all the leftbacks and there you go

I'm sorry this is rubbish, he's an absolutely superb left back - he was brilliant for Portugal during the Euros and his form for Benfica was the reason he cost so much.
