plays 2 defensive midfielde!
Playing two defensive midfielders sends the wrong message... it implies lack of faith, it implies fear. He needs to be brave in his next selection. .

I'll quote just you two but I'm fed up with a lot more peopel commenting on this point. WHO ELSE WAS HE MEANT TO PLAY?!

CMs = Huddlestone, Livermore, Sandro, Parker, Dembele, poss Sig.. Carrol.. JENAS

Parker = injured
Huddlestone = pratically injured
Sig = Not a CM
Carrol = too inexperienced
Jenas = don't need to explain

That leaves Sandro, Livermore and Dembele

DEMBELE has just signed, hasn't trained with us etc, and I really doubt we'll see us at home playing without Dembele for the rest of the season it was just this ONE game.

SAME goes for anyone getting annoyed at how Defoe has started up front, because if you believe that's because AVB thinks that its for the best of the team as in he thinks thats our strongest 11, your thick, Ade is unfit, and 2 weeks from now will probbaly start the rest of the season (With Dembele) then you can start judging this team.

Spot on and I really can't believe so many people seem to need this spelling out to them. What real choice has he had in terms of selection? The guy has been hung out to dry by Levy's transfer window policy/circumstances outside his control. I probably would have started Dembele but you can understand why he didn't. Adebayor has had no preseason. The only one I'm struggling with is playing Gallas over Caulker or Dawson. Hopefully that will change soon. If against Reading he's selecting Defoe over Ade and Livermore over Dembele, then serious questions will need to be asked, but I think (and hope!) that is very unlikely.

Exactly my point and I agree if it stays the same by Reading I'll start to question but before then I don't get these questions. I agree with the Gallas thing but can only assume Caulker is too inexperienced (I know a full season at Swansea but this is a bit dif) to be our first choice, and he obviously just does not rate Dawson as he was meant to be sold by now. I guess it might have something to do with Parker being injured, therefore no captain in the team, meaning Gallas had to play (and I know Dawson could have but he was meant to be sold by now). So my bet is he's in the first team because he's our captain, hopefully by next month Caulker will show enough and Parker can be captain.

I think Parker coming back from injury will be enormous. He's exactly what we need right now; a calming, veteran presence in the midfield. I fucking hate watching Jake Livermore play right now. He looks like Jason Statham in Crank. He's all over the place, shoving attackers and flirting with yellow cards and bad fouls. He looks like the second he gets the ball he wants to send it long or simply dump it off. He's got no control on the ball whatsoever, and you could argue he lacks it off the ball as well.

Parker getting back to health will really allow us to solidify our midfield. I love Sandro, but at this point, I think he may be best saved as a late sub to solidify the defense. Parker should be the starter, Sandro can replace a guy like Siggy if we have the lead going into the last 20-30 minutes of a match. .

Agreed.

I want to give AVB a chance. It's shameful of the fans and punditry to push for his ouster so soon. And if the players are having a hard time adjusting, get over it. Your professional, act that way. New schemes, tactics, personalities, whatever are no excuse for being guileless, sloppy and spineless. Sorry, but that is on the players to buck it up. (I'm talking to you, Lennon, BAE, and Bale).

That's not to say that AVB is totally without fault. Bottom line is, be needs to show faith in his players by being bold. Playing two defensive midfielders sends the wrong message... it implies lack of faith, it implies fear. He needs to be brave in his next selection. Be bold. And the players may pull the their thumbs from their collective over paid asses and act accordingly.

Just gotta be bold my friend.... once more into the breach and all that...

I dont know anyone that wants bad on AVB. Its our transfer shenanigans that drives us up the wall.

I agree OP. He said he won't jump in like he did with Chelsea but I think thats exactly what he need to do.

Make this team your own. I appreciate he needs to test a few players out, e.g Jenas, but he will find his rhythm and what works soon enough

lilywhites post was good, after watching Van Persie rescue man utd again, after a pretty abject performance against soton, its easy to see how much of an impact he had on arsenal last season. arsenal wont be in the top 4. liverpool look hideous with no means to score. There is a definate striker shortage these days, outside of van persie (though a complete ****, is a class above) i see noone capable of getting more than 20 goals this season let alone 15!

Scott parker is not the answer. We are struggling for creativity and parker is possibly the worst player with the ball at feet out of any of our midfielders.

Gallas hasn't done a lot wrong and I do think we need that experience in there initially this season. When we have bedded in and are more confident in the system and Verts has a few more games under his belt we can probably give Caulker a go but it is too early at present. We need Gallas' old head in there for a while.
