Kyle Walker is out with a long term injury.

Blackwell said: "It was a foul on Kyle Walker but it wasn't given and then the shot hits Chris Morgan and wrong-foots Ian Bennett for the only goal."
He added: "Kyle has damaged ankle ligaments and could be out for up to six weeks."

Six weeks is mid-February.

Hutton's also not going to be let go of during this window because of his ability to play at LB while BAE is away.

Bale will start at LB. Bassong can also play there. If we have to play Corluka and Hutton at FB, I would expect Charlie to be LB, with Hutton at RB.

Does anybody know how many times Hutton has actually played as a LB?

The way Bale's confidence is at the moment I think Hutton is the safer option at LB right now. Bale needs to be broken in gently in his more natural LM position.

I don't know about at Ranger, but Hutton had an excellent 90mins at LB in the CC this season.

Sheff Utd's RB is the other Kyle - Walker - also on loan from Spurs.

Walker can play CB, but it looks like £8 million of Spurs players will be competing to be RB for mid-table Championship club Sheff Utd.

Having said all that, Naughton has played hardly any football this season, and I agree that it would good for him to go on loan and get some more competitive football.

If this ITK is true, it also suggests that Micah Richards to Spurs could be happening, and that we'll sell Alan "the white Cafu" Hutton to the highest bidder. We'll also probably make a loss on Hutton, which won't please Levy...

We have paid next to nothing for these 2 players. It would reach £8m if they both play loads of games. The original fee is around £3m for the pair. Never doubt Levy with the finances.

Levy's shown superb financial judgement. It's hardly based on nothing but idolatory. You sure you're not just up for a bit of n00b-bashing?

Why has some over-eager mod extracted this entire exchange out of the relevant ITK thread, destroying its context, and giving it a misleading title in the process?

Surely Bale is the choice for Left Back with BAE out, if not what the hell do we intend to do with him?

Bale, Bassong, Ledley, Charlie, Hutt, Naughton and if it really got bad, Wilson.

All of these could play at LB before we start going to reserves

Are we sure BAE will be going, he seemed to do a groin today?

The rumours are that BAE was playing with an injury which will need an operation in the next few days. He did look like he may have aggravated an existing condition.

So, if we send Benoit off to the operating theatre, Cameroon will be short a left-sided defender. I would expect them to call up Bassong. In which case we will be without Benny and Seb for the duration of the ANC - though not in the way we'd anticipated.

Bale has to play at LB. The transfer rumour that we're loaning him and Pav to Sporting Lisbon, still paying 3/4 of Pav's wages, and all so we can get an option to buy the over-rated Veloso are surely rubbish.

think that playing hutton RB and corluka LB would do A LOT of harm to bale's already low confidence.

harry has been talking up bale and the only way (apart from a loan) that bale can improve defensively, is by playing games. Liverpool away would be tough though. On the one hand, gerrard playing balls to johnson behind bale could be scary but then bale could push johnson the other way and so will niko/modric. hull and fulham at home should def be bale games. Can help get us the lead in the type of game where we have struggled to break teams down.

bassong says he can play lb but doesnt mean he is a good lb. he would still be a CB playing LB. i'd rather have someone that s used to the position.

Anyways, I thought there was no doubts that bale was the one that will step in?

Totally agree with the highlighted part.

BAE clearly winced in pain when he took a free kick right in front of the benches about 10 minutes before he come off. Hr didn't move properly from that point onwards and the way it happened makes me think it was a groin.

I think there's a fair chance he won't go, do we know for sure that they would call Bass up?

Presumably Cameroon has an option to call up a new player to replace someone who has to withdraw with an injury before the tournament starts.

I'm not an expert on Cameroon's defensive options. However Bassong has played LB for the barcodes, is left-footed, and has been exceptional since joining us. If they have a better option to replace BAE, he must be some player.

Whilst I'm not entirely comfortable with it, Bale has to come in for BAE and hopefully he steps up and performs.

No one has seen Bassong at LB, god knows if he would be suited to it - I'm sure Harry has considered this and has had a look at him there - possibly give him a go at LB against Posh.

Naughton is anyones guess.

Hutton is thoroughly unconvincing at LB everytime I've seen him, not for me!

Can't see us buying someone just to fill a gap for a few weeks until Disco Benny is back.

Bale it is.
