Whatever shape you play, whatever team you pick, if you don't employ these three critical elements immediately, you WILL lose your job:

1. HIGH TEMPO

2. Persistent URGENCY from start to finish - EVERY game.

3. ONE/TWO TOUCH football (which obviously entails dynamic movement)

I'm just trying to help.

I want you to do well.

We had high tempo football, albeit "lottery football" :) but he decided to de-construct it..

No translator in the world could get that into Paulinho's head (let alone his legs)

Not high enough, not urgent enough, not enough bite.

We're too negative and too conservative.

High urgency encourages forward thinking and play.

Just need to focus on the fundamentals of mixing it at the top of this league.

I lost count of how many passes back we made after generating a little momentum going forward. So many bad choices when positive forward balls were on.

AVB needs to build from the three points in my OP, that has to be the foundation of our game.

Good luck with waiting for one/two touch football. It seems every player on the team is determined to take 17 touches when 'control, look up, pass' would do.

I think AVB sees things differently.

My point exactly.

There is no way forward playing like that. We're actual going backwards.

Major alarm bells time.

Pass across back 4 for 10 mins, Back to Hugo, hoof it to Soldado. Lose possession, Hugo rolls it to Daws, right footed hoof intended for our left winger but finds someone in row c. Does my head in. Totally agree need high tempo, quick passes. If this is how AVB plays it then I'm starting to lose faith.

Only Lamela, Eriksen and Adebayor can instinctively play one/two touch, the rest can't.

Paulinho has been poor in possession all season, Dembele needs his own ball, Holtby doesn't create in the League, Sandro knows his limits and moves it on quickly and Capoue isn't that type of player.

Listen,
We are playing terrible on the road
We're not even good at our own home
And we've tried and tried
To play the way that's on your mind
You should have known
Oh,

Now I'm done believing you
You don't know how we are feeling
We are better than what you've made us be
We followed your voice patiently
But now we gotta start to moan.

(Listen by Beyonce)

Ok.. I know it's pretty crap but ey, got bored.

I agree, looks to me like the players just don't get what he wants them to do, this whole provoking the opposition AVB believes in just won't work against teams like City, or even teams that are intent on parking the bus.
There are no triangles, hardly any pass and move combinations.
He won't change his philosophy TT, even if it is not working he won't change, i can't see that the players are happy with playing that slow.

I think we are in some serious trouble, if there wasn't a Levy/Lewis inquiry after Newcastle then there will be now.

My philosophy is that if you give the ball back to the keeper and he boots it, you are giving up a situation where you have 100% control of the ball and are relinquishing that in favour of a boot up the field which makes it a 50/50 situation.

Has never ever made sense to me.

We do that a lot!

I'd rather lose it deep in the opponents half as a by-product of trying to create, penetrate and execute, than by a self induced 50/50 air ball.

We desperately lack adventure.

4. Pass forwards

The aim is to pass your way to the opposition goal not your own goal!

The thing is...the players are doing exactly what he wants them to do imo. It's possession beyond anything else...even goals it would seem!

Possession at all costs and hope that something comes out of it.

Can never work.

I agree he's not likely to change that, but he needs to seek it through my three points. Not by conservative, mediocre, middle-of-the-road football.

Spot on. I was told as a 12 head old that as soon as the balls in the air it's 50/50. Basics. It's then you have to look at our midfield. I'm not confident when Sandro or Paulinho come deep to collect off back 4. I know he's been off the boil but for me Dembele has to play. People say Eriksen should play deeper but he tackles like a 10 year old and probably won't be the best at tracking back. We could try him in a midfield 3 but AVB wont budge on system ATM.
