He will be killer in open games. The fact is today every time he got the ball he was facing at least one, if not two banks of Tromso players. Not really a game for a tricky winger who likes to cut inside. Showed moments of real class and composure though, I think him and Eriksen will be brilliant, and hopefully bring Soldado in to games more.

Sorry could not agree less. I think a game against a third rate team was a great chance for him. If he has pace he had lots of chances to take on the full back. He had 2 or 3 people around him because he kept drifting into the middle. He played short passes and didn't look like he wanted to take anyone on. He gave the ball away and for me the best part of he's game was tracking back.

I am not saying he was a waste of money but he would need to improve a lot. I have a feeling he will be a player for next season and Townsend will take over the right wing spot.

And he obviously will but to make and real judgement from a game like that is a waste of time imo. As for Townsend until he starts to play with his head up, as there is no way he would have played Defoe in like Lamela did, he isn't a nailed on starter.

But then AVB picks the team so it will be up to him.

and people call me negative!

personally i was impressed, he's not an "up n at 'em" player like townsend, he's more of an understated, intelligent player, he used the ball very well tonight i thought.

based on the 90 mins only, I was underwhelmed by him.

but the whole team performance was pretty bland

Yeah his use of the ball was very good. Even though we were playing against a poor side, it made it quite difficult ironically - at times anyway.

I liked his performance, nothing too flashy but some lovely touches and his little ball for Defoe was quick thinking. There is a degree of subtly to his play as well.

This is what we want, more intelligence use of the ball and he'll definitely bring that. Just because he didn't beat three men and rifle one in to the top corner on his debut he's branded weak.

Im sorry but what exactly did he do wrong tonight?!

People bashing the guy are fuckwits who know fuck all about how talented this kid actually is.

He isnt worth £30m. He's probably worth more.

Edit: he got an assist tonight too. Didnt Eriksen do that too against Norwich and get bummed for it? Double standards. (Disclaimer: im not putting eriksen down there, i think he's awesome)

I agree.

The only thing I can see people being annoyed about was his attitude, which seemed to consist of being a team player rather than being Bale v2. He was really tidy, no real mistakes that I can remember and tracked back even against a horrid Norwegian team. I like that attitude.

Good god man. Give the boy a chance, he will be an absolute superstar for us. He needs a bit of time to find his feet but you will be eating your words by the end of the season.

He's 21 years old, has just moved to a new country and doesn't speak the language. Plus he's probably trained for 1 week? With a trip to South America thrown in the middle. Give the guy a break.

FWIW I was impressed with him tonight. He used the ball very well I thought but is clearly still adjusting to life here, and his team mates.

He is a top quality player, make no mistake about it. I'm absolutely thrilled that he plays for Spurs.

He look a very good player but he seems inhibited at the moment as if he doesn't want to take any risks, which is understandable as he's only been here 5 minutes and barely speaks a word of English.

Some players take more time to settle in than others and I don't think we'll see the best of him until after Christmas.

He didn't set the world alight, but there was flashes of real quality. Great assist, signs of good movement off the ball, and some clever touches. He just needs time and patience while he adapts to his new club.

Jesus give the lad a break. I was willing him to take people on and show us what he's got inside his party bag but instead he used the game tonight to settle in. Lots of neat passes, willingness to track back, subtle interplay with Naughton, some good first time and slide passes and good movement. But what I really liked was the way he arrives in the box to attack the ball. Late on he made a run to try and get on the end of a Paulinho cross, and though unsuccessful he reminded me a bit of CR7 in that respect.

Can't wait to see him after he's settled a bit more and has gelled with the team, think he will prove a real asset! Now get behind the las and give him the confidence he needs to thrive!

Thanks for the heads up bro. Do you think I should bring my Lamela effigy to the next home game or should I give it a couple of weeks? I'm still working on the sideburns so I'm happy to wait.

missed the game. how did our boy get on?

Awful. Just awful. He only got one assist.

I was expecting a double hat-trick and at least 2 assists. Complete waste of money. Considering we bought Bentley for half his price we've certainly been ripped off.
