Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp will pull out all the stops to sign Aston Villa's Ashley Young in January

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is determined to sign Aston Villa's Ashley Young in the January transfer window and will offer them a number of different players in any deal.

Villa are determined to keep hold of the winger but Redknapp will not give up and would even consider loaning out Jonathan Woodgate as part of the deal, according to The Sun.

He is also ready to ready to offer the Midlands club a deal that could involve Robbie Keane, David Bentley, Nico Kranjcar and Jamie O’Hara or moving in the opposite direction.

Redknapp wants Young to help his side retain their spot in the Champions League this season by finishing fourth in the Barclays Premier League again.

The England international is out of contract in 18 months' time and could move on following Gerard Houiller's poor start to the season.

He has so far refused the offer of a new deal at Villa Park and is prepared to run his contract down and leave for nothing if Houllier do not let him go.

Houiller may, therefore, consider cutting his losses and sanction the new year move.

Young missed the 2-1 Boxing Day defeat home clash against Spurs with a knee injury

young is a player that i admire very much. Think he could do well for us:

Young----Defoe----VdV

Bale-----Hudd----Modric

Not really impressed. Certainly not enough to throw shedloads of cash Villa's way.

My thoughts exactly.

We need an out and out striker who's quality is going to cost a lot of money. Why divert a significant amount of funds on a player we don't really need?

On the other hand, if we were to sell Kranjcar and Bentley, that should cover the cost of Young.

Young is a very good player. Has good range of passing with very high accuracy. Also, he is clever enough to retain position most of the time in the opposition half

While I think you are right about Young being clever and probably would shine in our squad what is the point with the players that we currently have?? Would you start him over Bale? Lennon? VDV? Modric?

For me he would be a overpriced squad player who in one or two years time at most would be wanting to move because he isn't getting enough time on the pitch. Villa are not going to sell cheap as proof all you need to look at are the Milner and Barry deals so why even bother?? Who in their right mind would pay 20 million pounds for a bench player?

He only has 18mths left on his contract though, and if we offer a player in the deal we might just get ourselves a decent deal. As long as we still have the money for the all important striker then I for one will be happy with this. Yesterday showed once again how crucial pace is to our team, and outside of Lennon and Bale we dont have many pacey options. Young can cover for either of them or even VDV as a support striker. We'll have to cash in on Bentley and Kranjcar first though.

Young and Pienaar for Bentley, Kranjcar and Giovani would imo give us the best midfield in the Premier League. We'd just need a Drogba/Rooney/Tevez/Van Persie/Torres to make us true title contenders.

It wouldn't be a transfer window without this link

Imagine if we did a swap:

Jenas, Bentley, Keane to Villa for Ashley Young and Downing.

There would be nothing to talk about in the windows any more apart from Dave!

(before I get slated I'm not suggesting those transfers and I know Jenas won't be leaving  )

Now he has 18 months on his contract, Villa are struggling and Lerner is trying to balance the books this could happen.

We don't have to worry about whether he is a guaranteed first team starter because at the monent Lennon and Bale play every match and an alternative option could be useful.

If we sell Bentley, Keane and Dos Santos then he Young would be 1 of 3 wingers in the first team squad.

Our squad would have improved and with the other deals happening to accomodate for Young we wouldn't have sent any money.

We can still search for a striker so I don't understand the logic of those saying leave him as we need a striker.

I hope we miss out on him and pick up another VDV type signing.
With all these links for another winger I suppose there might be some truth in them but what i don't get or don't want is to have the best wingers in the world (we're close to that now) providing a great supply line and there being nobody to finish it off. If Bale had been playing for Manu his assists tally would be off the scale.

Don't rate him.

If we want a Villa winger, we might as well go for their good one (Downing).

Little shocked so many people aren't bothered by Young, he is a quality player imo and would improve us - not as much pace as Lennon but a better end product and an eye for a goal.

Take a look at his assists totals - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashley_Young

I also don't think he is as all or nothing as Lennon, so would be a slightly more conservative option than 'Azza.

Also, as long as getting Young doesn't limit us looking at a striker - which should be a priority - then I dont see why people get so fussed about transfer fees, it isn't our money. If 'Arry wants Young, then he is good enough for me.
