Little shocked so many people aren't bothered by Young, he is a quality player imo and would improve us - not as much pace as Lennon but a better end product and an eye for a goal.

Take a look at his assists totals - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashley_Young

I also don't think he is as all or nothing as Lennon, so would be a slightly more conservative option than 'Azza.

Also, as long as getting Young doesn't limit us looking at a striker - which should be a priority - then I dont see why people get so fussed about transfer fees, it isn't our money. If 'Arry wants Young, then he is good enough for me.

Young is a LW, we have Bale in that position and Bale is far better now than Young will ever be and Young is not a natural RW, Young is a good player but we have someone far far better in his position so simply don't need him.

I hope we miss out on him and pick up another VDV type signing.
With all these links for another winger I suppose there might be some truth in them but what i don't get or don't want is to have the best wingers in the world (we're close to that now) providing a great supply line and there being nobody to finish it off. If Bale had been playing for Manu his assists tally would be off the scale.

We'll be incredibly lucky to see a signing like this, for this money, in the next decade...it is the steal of this century thus far...

He plays LW for Villa, however, this season he has been playing a much freer role. I would also say, he is right footed, so regardless of where he plays now, RW will always be more natural than LW. No such thing as a natural right-footed LW'er.

If Young was left footed, I wouldn't consider him, because, as you righty stated, we have Bale who is better.

Lennon Vs Young? All I'd say is I understand why 'Arry is interested.

With just 18 months left of his contract most we should pay is about £8-9m so I would offer them Keane + £4m

If Young badly wants to come he can sit tight and leave for nothing in 18 months time so if we are badly after Young then Levy should try get him cheap

As back up to Bale and Lennon, assuming Harry thinks he can cover both, I think it would be good. Should easily make 20 appearances. Would allow us to stick with 2 proper wingers without being diminished too much. Would be perfect for example to rest Bale for one of the next 2 games. Can also indirectly cover BAE by pushing Bale to left back (I know, I know).

Good players don't become available very often. If we have a chance to sign him we definitely should. He could play on the right or left or be another striking option with pace, something we sorely lack when Defoe is out. He's likely to keep most, if not all of his value too. If we have the funds available, and can afford his wages, we should definitely go for him.

Exactly. We can keep on talking about our need for a striker all we want but until the right player becomes available we don't have many options.

Young is very possibly available now and he has qualities that would improve our squad so we should look at him.

It doesn't effect ou search for a striker so they're not connected issues.

We do have a bloated squad currently, and also a squad where as some have pointed out, we don't have enough pace to come in once you get beyond our first team. If we can trim that squad, and have Young as an adaptable backup who will also probably give Lennon more of a run for his money even if the right wing hasn't been his natural position thus far (probably seeing Lennon raise his game once more or simply get displaced by someone with more reliable delivery) then I think its a decent move. And as dontcallme says, we have no guarantee that the striker we want is available in January, so we might be able to continue to improve the service our current strikers get instead, you'd imagine we'd budget for both.

It is rather sad that after his consistent levels of assist making over a number of seasons you still have people who say they'd prefer Taarabt, but there you go...

Lennon > Young

If we have £20m to spend then it needs to go on a striker.

I do wonder if you have actually watched Young or if you've just seen England performances. I think the majority of people, not Spurs fans, would put that the other way around.

Also, as I mentioned before, the constant comments about what money is available is utterly ridiculous. 'Arry et al. know exactly what we need, if there is money available then they'll spend it as they need to. Just because we need a striker, doesn't mean we only need a striker.

Harry knows how good Young is, and I agree with him fully. For a counter attacking site a player like young is just as useful as one like bale. Of course Young dont have the pace of bale but he has a is a better decision maker on and off the ball and has bridling technique similar to arshavin

Brilliant signing him and pienar would upgrade our squad one thing people have to remember football is not just about attack its about defence as well and they would be an upgrade on kranky bentley and dos santos in this department young and pienar like lennon and bale are very good defensively also they are adaptable kranky bentley and dos santos are limited in positions they can play if lennon or bale were injured or suspended i would be happy to have them as an option plus pienar can cover center mid for me this is a no brainer.

Why would we waste our time on Ashley Young when a far superior player like Marin could probably be had for less?

Also the idea Marin is 'far superior' could be greatly disputed - it's an opinion, not a fact
