After the shameful antics in the crowd this afternoon and the discussion in the match thread, it’s fair to wonder if we as spurs fans are just like other fan bases, or are we more toxic / self entitled / fickle than most….

We pay more. The football side of the club has no defined direction. We’re in footballing limbo. Neither good enough to win anything or bad enough to have to fight for anything. We plod. We’re aimless.

All fans have their own place I guess.

I remember Arsenal fans towards the end of the Wenger era. They were consistently finishing top 6, usually top 4, and were moaning like everything was terrible.

I can understand why some see us as moaners.

But let's get real here and know our history. The history of this football club has made us consistently one of the biggest in the best league in the world.

We're not all Spurs fans because we grew up in Tottenham. Some are, but most aren't. Most of us support the team our parents and grandparents did and the size of this support comes the sustained success the club had over a 50 year period.

Our expectations should be high. Sugar and ENIC haven't mismanaged a small club that should just be happy to be also-rans. They have mismanaged one of the biggest clubs in the Prem to a level where we just don't compete for honours anymore.

I certainly understand why we're pissed off. If I supported a smaller club and we were in this position, I'd likely be happier. But I grew up supporting one of the biggest teams that through consistent mismanagement, no longer competes.

I don't think we are different to other fans but I think we have found ourselves in a very different situation to other clubs. A level fo toxcitiy and vitriol has creeped into the fan base as we have gotten more successful whilst falling short of winning things.

I've stopped going into the Levy thread because it's become a nasty cesspit with no sense of proportion. What we seen today with Sanchez and Porro is just a different side of it (albeit even less justified).

Our fans are compeltely entitled and think it's our god given right to win things - when we don't win things, a nastiness appears.

I’ve always been proud to suport spurs but recently it all feels slightly different, I hope we can get the top to bottom reset and an upturn in playing style/ results, the winning trophies thing has never been tougher so I can’t see that but to be competitive and in the race would be good

I think our fans just about accept negative football if the results are there. The last 3-4 seasons have been turgid, boring and lacking dynamism. We had enough when you compare the open expansive football being played elsewhere.

we are incredibly frustrated with what’s happening both on and off the pitch

I’m more embarrassed about our behaviour off the pitch than on it at the moment, and that takes some doing.

no, there where many many fights over at the Olympic stadium when West Ham moved there. There have been far worse incidents at others clubs but yes it wasn’t nice today.

Fans are mostly reactive, when a club becomes toxic it feeds top down but that shouldn’t excuse the morons for their behaviour. As for being entitled we are not even close to Chelsea/Arsenal/Liverpool fans

In what way are we any different?

All the other too 6 clubs have turned toxic over the years -
Liverpool during the hodgson reign (although they’ll deny it of course),

United fans storming the ground

arsenal fans booing their club captain off the pitch is no different.

Chelsea’s fans don’t boo because they think they’ll just throw more money at the problem and it will go away (and it usually does)

Nothing has gone wrong for city

however, has it been toxic at villa or Everton? You bet. They have similar expectations to us and they’ve been all over the place for years.

this is what happens. Fans are fed up. And the system means that rather that have an easy way to vent at the problem it only presents itself during the 90mins and ergo at the players. Booing Sanchez (whilst unhelpful and harsh individually) is IMO just a vent at everything going wrong with the club. Because everyone knows what will happen once he sets foot on the pitch- he’s a calamity. We tried to ship him out for kounde but couldn’t.
Conte clearly got told that he was fine after the run at the end of last season so we wouldn’t be upgrading. So we are stuck with him (and Tanganga, who is equally out of his depth) and so we have a squad with shit depth. Does anyone seriously believe that’s the fault of the managers we’ve recently had?

we are no different to any other set of fans and to think we are (or hope we are better than that) is misguided.

Nope all fanbases are the same.
I think I just (probably naively, I'll 100% admit) thought we were a bit better than most, less toxic etc. Maybe is cos we had a rep of always being good to watch, but flaky. Now we are still as inconsistent, but shit to watch too. Likely saps the patience out of people - but it's been done to death on here.

Shame - I was just wrong I guess.

No. We are, unfortunately, just like the rest.
