Lloris - 6 - Nothing to do
Rose - 7 - Look bright before his injury
Naughton -6 - Neat and tidy
Kaboul - 5 - Looked rusty, should improve
Dawson 6 - Bit sloppy at times
Sandro - 6 - Also looked rusty, but looked fairly combative
Dembele - 7 - Looked good, strong, beat his man, although his final ball is poor.
Holtby - 6 - Busy, but didnt seize his opportunity
Lamela - 6- good assist but didnt get involved enough, would have liked him to drift inside a bit more
Siggy - 5 - Tried too hard
Defoe - 7 - MOM, took his goals well, bit anonymous in the second half

Subs
Paulinho - 7 - Added some injection to midfield
Vertonghen - 7 - Look comfortable
Eriksen - 8 - done more than the other 5 midfielders in his cameo, great goal

I've never done this before, but here we go.

Lloris-6- Spectator. Did help out the defense with a punch from a corner and his only negative moment was a slightly underhit pass to Kyle Naughton. I can't remember him coming close to making a save.

Dawson 6- A little sloppy later on in possession, but otherwise limited amount to do

Kaboul 7- The better of our central defence pairing, brought the ball out well and did a couple of nice slide tackles. Did skew a shot at an offensive corner, but a good nights work. Came off limping, but AVB says nothing to worry about.

Rose- 6 Looked very good offensively before he limped off. Shame.

Vertongen (on for Rose) 6- Solid as you would expect and strong in possession.

Lamela 6- Looking for passes all the time as he finds his feet. Nothing too promising going forward, though I think he had a hand in the first goal. Nice bit of defending towards the end to thwart a chance.

Sandro 6- Won the ball every time it was near him. Solid passing.

Dembele 7- His passing was looking very good until he got injured.

Paulinho 6 - Decent display as a sub.

Sig 6- Some nice touches, but also some wrong decisions. He doesn't take corners for us anymore, which is surprising as he was brilliant at them for Swansea. Was unlucky not to score once though

Holtby 8 (mom) - Worked hard, industrious and good range of passing. A little wayward shooting

Eriksen 8- Short cameo but looked the best player on the pitch by a mile. Exceptional goal, wonderful technique. Passing was inventive, accurate and game changing

Defoe 8- two wonderfully taken goals. I was hoping he may drop short a bit more to find the ball and then drive. Great in the first half, pretty anonymous in the second, though I think he did pass to Eriksen for his goal.

Sorry if I missed anyone out.

You gave Defoe 7 & MOTM but eriksen an 8

I thought holtby played well but when Eriksen came on you could clearly see the gulf in class between the two

sandro, dembele, lamela and defoe were the best of the starters, rose started brightly as well but went off early. quite surprised at the ratings of lamela, you can see(well i could) his class on the ball, he didn't make any townsend-esque mazy runs or take any bale-esque long range shots but everything he did with the ball was measured and he worked a few openings, including a sublime ball through to defoe for the first goal, his work off the ball was impressive as well. sandro was as combative as ever but his passing was more incisive than i remember, dembele carried on from the norwich game until going off and defoe took his goals well. holtby did a lot of nice things as well but he was a bit scattergun with some of his passes. hugo and the defence didn't really have much to do and sigurdsson had one of his games where nothing really came off for him.

Lloris - Not even worth a rating, he had nothing to do.

Rose 7 - Looked very good.
Vertonghen 7 - Very good on the ball especially.
Dawson 7 - Solid, some good balls out of the back.
Kaboul 7 - Good interceptions and dribbles out of the back.
Naughton 6.5 - Little bit hesitant to go forward but overall a solid display. VERY useful squad player.

Sandro 7.5 - Seems to be getting back to his best, great performance tonight.
Dembele 7 - Very good performance, final ball lacking a bit but very good besides that.

Lamela 6.5 - Not bad and good assist but didn't do much else. Probably a bit nervous. I'll give him time to settle.
Holtby 7 - Runs hard and played some good balls, poor shooting though.
Sigurdsson 5.5 - Not at all an impressive display against this caliber of opponent.

Defoe 7 - Two great finishes.

Paulinho 7 - Good when he came on, game was done and dusted by then to be fair.
Eriksen 7 - Great goal, same as Paulinho.

My MOTM was Sandro, but to be honest the team played pretty good again in a game where they didn't seem to go 100%.

I thought it was a more than decent performance, very professional and considering we had Walker, Vertonghen, Paulinho, Eriksen, Soldado off the top of my head rested from the Norwich game and starts for Lamela, Naughton, Kaboul, Sandro, Holtby and DefoeI thought we played well while still missing Capoue and Chiriches. Strong line up because we have a strong squad but everyone came in and did well. Cant really remember when we have made that many changes and the team has more or less put in a pretty comprehensive shift.

Lloris 6 - Very quiet night
Naughton 6 - Solid
Dawson 5.5 - A few silly mistakes
Kaboul 6 - Better than Dawson
Rose 6 - Carried on his impressive form until the injury. The folly of sending BAE on loan without having another left back. Hope the injury is not serious.
Holtby 6 - Assist for the 2nd goal but faded after the break.
Sandro 7 - The beast is back
Dembele 7 - Our best player until his injury.
Sigurdsson 4 - Woeful
Defoe 8 MoM - Two goals and a big hand in the third. Some nice hold-up play and passing (really!). Excellent.
Lamela 6.5 - Nice assist for the first and set up another chance for Defoe before that. Helped out the defence on a few occasions. Slightly disappointed that he wasn't more involved.

Vertonghen 7 - Very comfortable
Eriksen 7 - Oozes class
Paulinho 7 - Ditto

If Dembele and Rose's injuries are serious, we are without 7 of our squad for the Cardiff game. Surprised that Chiriches wasn't involved tonight. If Rose is out, we may have to have him (or Fryers) on the bench on Sunday.

The first half seemed to follow the blueprint of our previous Euro game, where we were bright and lively, full of zip and decent movement. For me we never quite hit the heights of that Carroll inspired performance, but not far off in that first half, with both Holtby and Lamela playing incisive passes and Defoe with two good finishes, especially the rare (for him) "dink" for the first.

The second half I'm not sure whether we decided to try and suck them out, or whether we just dropped off the pace a little and they had a little hoo hah for five minutes, but they had nothing to offer offensively, despite Kaboul and Dawson trying hard to gift them something on one occasion.

I actually thought the subs were a bit daft. Having lost Dembele, why risk Paulinho into a match we were cruising in. Same Eriksen, he scored an absolute beauty, and both he and Paulinho helped us regain some grip and momentum where it had dropped off a bit, but IMO were completely unnecessary risks. I don't even think those two should have been on the bench. Surely this game was tailor made to have a couple of development kids on the bench and at 2-0 and cruising would have been an ideal game to introduce them, rather than risk more important players than we had to with a fixture pile up in the next few days.

Despite playing some decent stuff at times and creating some quality chances, there were other times where I felt players made poor final choices or were selfish instead of looking for a through ball, better option. But overall a decent work out.

Individual ramblings:

Lloris - Sweet FA to do.

Naughton - decidedly meh to be honest, made one crucial intervention when Kaboul and Dawson made bad decisions to commit harry carry, and was defensively solid but offered very little in an attacking sense.

Dawson - had fuck all to do but made one typically rash error of judgement that should have cost us a goal if tromso weren't so woefully inept.

Kaboul - Same as Dawson, fuck all to do, but made a real howler that could have cost us in a game we were cruising in.

Rose - Bright start, shame he got injured.

Sandro - Good game. Was busy, was ****, even played a little football.

Dembele - Was pretty good, but not quite as good as Saturday I don't think. There were a couple of times I wanted him to release the ball a little quicker when people were in good spaces.

Lamela - Neat, tidy, nice ball for the first goal. Good movement, comes looking for the ball and gets involved. Nice to see him track back and get important tackles in too.

Holtby - Decent enough game, great ball for the second goal. Very dynamic, lots of involvement and works very hard.

Sigurdsson - One of those games tonight where he seemed a bit lightweight and should have had more influence than he did. He wasn't bad, just not great either. He still has this habit of getting shrugged off too easily at times.

Defoe - Good finishes, good movement at times, decent game.

Vertonghen - fuck me this boy's class. SOme lovely football under pressure at times.

Paulinho & Eriksen - decent cameos. Lovely goal from the Dane.

A good performance I have to say overall but we hit third gear in the first half and then dropped to two for the rest of the game and cruised. I thought Defoe had an excellent game with Lamela, Rose and Dembele strong as well. Siggy and Naughton had an opportunity to shine but did'nt. Kaboul looked rusty but he will be a real asset as the season moves along. Holtby was good in the first half and then faded when I thought he could have made a bigger impression as the Norwegians tired. Eriksen as he has shown recently is a class above. Came on with Paul junior and made the others look like stiff's for a short brilliant cameo. Lloris should have brought along a flask of Horlicks and his crossword - at least it would have kept him busy as he had FA to do.

Where do you live, T_G?

Thanks for the ratings, guys. Didn't see the game either, and for the same reason.
I grew up in a little beautiful beach town down south western Australia, I currently live in Perth WA :)
