QpJan's way better.
There's only one team out of the bottom three that's conceded more goals than we have and Jan should surely shoulder some of that blame.
Qp
He's not a regular starter at Juve...
Yes, he should have some of the blame. But he is better than Ogbonna, who's not that good. Always a risk when playing for Juve.
Vertonghen has absolutely no bollocks and no leadership qualities, he's a fucking shirker who cries off rather than roll his sleeves up, would fuck him off happily if we get a decent offer!!
And by that do you mean we have a chance of getting him, or that he's not good enough for us?
If it's the latter then that's an odd comment, seeing as how Juve's defence is miles better and more organised than ours. I don't think any of our defenders would get into that first team line up, including Vertonghen. He's a good player, but falls short of some of the core defensive requirements.
If it's the former then I'm not sure if that would be the case. Just because he isn't first team doesn't mean he's not in Juve's plans. Barzagli is ageing and Ogbonna is still seen as a good prospect despite no longer being "young". He's not as assured as Barzagli, Chiellini or Bonucci, but he is still a good defenders and is versatile, often playing on the right of the back 3 for Juve despite being left footed, and he's a good, strong defender.
Although I agree with you in that Jan is a better overall player, Ogbonna is a good player and regarded highly still in Italy. It's simply not true that he's always a risk for Juve, and has put in many good shifts. Like many defenders he has the odd hiccup, but, as a Juve fan who watches every game, I honestly think Jan is more error prone and makes more mistakes. Ogbonna is stronger, better in the air and has better positional sense when it comes to marking. Jan is a better all rounder, much better with the ball at his feet and makes some excellent pre-emptive tackles.
They're very different types of defenders so I don't think they can be easily compared. It's smarter to compare Ogbonna to Dier and Fazio, both of whom I think he's better than. Doesn't mean to say he would work in England though.
I agree with most of your points but it can be argued who's the better of Jan or Barzagli/Bonucci as it's hard to compare the EPL with Seri A. I am sure Jan would do very well in Seri A in fact while I am not so sure about how Barzagli/Bonucci would do in the EPL.
Thing is, Ogbonna is turning 27 soon and's yet to fulfil his potential and he's spent his entire career in Seri A - but, who knows, maybe the EPL is where he'll blossom as a player. I remember Chimbonda was a relatively unknown player when he joined Wigan and turned out to be the best RB in the EPL (he was selected for the EPL FTOY) in his first seaon there (only to falter later....)
Jan has certainly got the capabilities as we all know, however I think he loses focus at times and can be bullied a little bit. I seem to remember before De Boer decided to give Jan the captain's armband he noted the problems Jan had with his focus at times and his lack of concentration needed work. He certainly improved it in his last season, as it convinced us to take the plunge after he had captained Ajax to another title win.Okay, I stand corrected on Ogbonna. But to say that Jan has no bollocks and no leadership qualities is quite weird I'd have to say. He was captain at Ajax, has been a few times for Belgium and for us. I'd think he definitely has leadership qualities when so many managers has seen it in him. Have you been in our lockerroom?
A better footballer maybe but not a better defender. The system Pochettinho demands we need specialist defendersJan's way better.
