Lennon has his limitations, we all know that, but Townsend is simply a no-trick-pony.
Runs REALLLLLLY fast and does NOTHING. EVER.

He'll be at someone like Villa. He'll do as well as Abonglahor. IE, not very.

Those who are disagreeing with me should take a look at this, if you think that first touch is acceptable from a Premier League player who is training with zero pressure is acceptable then there are a few players on here who could challenge Andros for a position in the first team squad.

Except has has a thunderous shot on his left, and two good crossing feet (unlike Lennon who can only cross with his left somehow), close ball control, good upper body strength... He's built the same way as Bale, but doesn't understand the game like Bale does. I think people certainly underestimate how intelligent Bale is - it's not just kick the ball past someone and run faster than them.

Although I think Townsend should really be able to catch-22 defenders - he was doing this well during the start of the season when he only had one person marking him. But now he generally has two, both guarding one direction. In this case, he simply needs to pass, and provided we move the ball quickly, someone else will be down a marker.

He is defo good enough to be a squad winger for us, and is maybe good enough to grow into a first team player. I don't know.

He's about 6 inches shorter than bale.
Has zero intelligence.
Has power in his shot. Zero accuracy.
Has provided zero assists all season.

I don't think he's fit to say bales name to be quite Frank.

People are forgetting that 1 year ago we would have been amazed for him to be an England international and even in contention to start. Yes, there is a lot of work to do but who's to say he doesn't come on hugely in the next year or so? Players like Townsend, Bentaleb, Kane and even Caulker last year there is almost no point in selling IMO as who knows what they could become.

1. He's 2 cm smaller. He's basically the same size.
2. Yes, but even someone with his intelligence should be able to follow instructions. I actually made a list on one of his pages earlier that had 4 basic instructions.
3. He usually works the keeper, and even if it has no accuracy, other teams can't really afford to let him get in on his foot (the same way Lennon makes the opposition back line step back a few feet)
4. He has put in good balls occassionally, but I think assists is quite a lame stat, as it requires your strikers to finish the chances. A better one is key passes, but I'm not sure how many of those Townsend has (probably still 0).

Townsend's stats aren't good, but with his skill set he can easily become a very good Premier League winger. He just needs to learn the game (which Sherwood has done well by putting him on the bench for this purpose).

I'm gobsmacked.
He's 5f 11"!
He looks no bigger than Lennon or Defoe.
He's bigger than me ffs lol.

His horrendous 1st touch explains why he shoots so much, as he's unable to do anything else with it.

Getting Townsend to learn the game is like asking him to play golf with his todger, it's not going to happen lol

I'm not a fan. But I think you'll find his first touch was to put the ball in a good spot to wrap his foot round the ball. Also to beat an (imaginary) defender.

I'm still gobsmacked he's 5ft 11.

Townsend will benefit massively from the removal of the high back line and the installment of a proper, dynamic No 8 in central midfield. He has suffered from making a premature psychological leap on his England ventures, and he has struggled on the pitch with us because he is often double-teamed in the congestion the high back line induces and because him receiving the ball is predictable because we've no bite through the middle from deep as our center mids always pass horizontally and do not transition quickly.

We could do much, much worse than a RW tandem of Lamela and Townsend next season if the two are fit and Lamela gets in the weight room (which I'm quite certain he's been doing this spring, if he's even alive that is).

Are you English?
If so, we could probably get a game for England against Montenegro lol.

Sell sell sell ... Brain dead and does not score enough or assist enough .... That's Townsend , like the fact he commits players and drags them out of positions but if we want top 4 this guy is not it ... Sell along with Lennon at this stage

I wouldn't be so quick to offload as some of you. He's 22, by no means past the age where he can continue to develop. Yes he shoots too much, yes he cuts in too much, but can't we argue he was asked to do this? We all know avb loved his inverted wingers to come in and have a crack a la hulk/bale, and then he has struggled, with both injury and overconfidence from England call up. In the youth teams he showed his crossing ability and better all round gameplay. This will come back with better coaching and a more constructive game plan. Also, he's homegrown, a valuable and necessary commodity in today's game. He is also spurs through and through...
