Can't help thinking he's one of the few Frenchmen that would have coped with English football in the 60's & 70's

Can anyone confirm the rumour that he was actually born in Belgium?

well done Steed - as for replacing him with an actual winger - well we'll see what happens - if JR thinks that's for the best then fine - but many clubs/countries have been successful with one/no wingers including famously England in 66

cool,

i'd say 70% of those tackles were him chasing back after he lost the ball.

stats are great :-|

Maybe now our 'so-called fans' will stop booing him whenever his name is read out.

They're not booing, dude (or were you being sarcastic?)

They're bellowing "STEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!!!"

I didn't see there was a page 2 to this thread

True that. Lennon-JJ-Hudd-Mallbrank is a very possible England midfield in 2-3 years time.

In Mouscron, just over the border from Lille, and about as close to France as you can get without being in it.

Our top five tacklers:

Steed 102 78,4% 38
Jenas 73 64,4% 39
Chimbonda 66 75,8% 53
Lee 54 81,5% 27
Hudd 52 65,4% 28
Interesting that Lee, despite starting much fewer games and completing much fewer games than Chimbonda isn't that far behind him in terms of tackles made and is ahead of him in terms of percentage of tackles made.

In fact despite what appears to be much more playing time, Chimbonda has made only 6 more successful tackles than Leapy yet Chimbonda is lorded and Leapy is slated.

Would be interested to know how many minutes each has spent on the pitch this season to do a comparison of mins/successful tackles.

Back to Steed though, despite the fact that he is STILL running into players instead of running into the space he is beginning, just beginning mind, to win over even me!

He's done good so far this season. That habit of running into players though really bloody infuriates me!

Well...

The abysmal and non-premiership class Lee makes a successful tackle every 34mins 47secs.
The world and top 4 class Chimbonda makes a successful tackle every 43mins 36secs.

Thanks for the playing times SS57

I can't help thinking that both are low to be honest with you, but looking at the tackle rate of Steed and the Premierships top tacklers, although having said that when Steed is on the left he is probably getting them before they even get to Leapy with that kind of rate.

Steed has made 80 successful tackles in roughly the same playing time as Chimbonda and even taking into account Lee's much reduced pitch time, I would venture that Steed is ahead of him.

bare in mind a tackle according to Opta is when a player goes to ground. Midfielders can risk going to ground far mor often than Full backs who inturn have a little less pressure to keep on their feet than CB's. All the toes Fullbacks get to knck a ball away from a winger or to nick it out of touch are not counted... obviously as it would be ridiculous to only make one defensive touch of the ball every 34 mins.

every time a player takes on Ledley but he just steps on the gas, eases them out the waytand clears it it's not classed as a tackle. In fact from what i can see it's not counted as anything. Opta should bring out a new category "rape".

Ledley made 138 rape attempts with a sucess rate of 100% for season 05/06

Still banging that drum Carl?

You're about a season out of date. You don't hear many on here slating Lee and there are certainly none who claim Chimbonda to world class/Top 4. Chimbonda gets plenty of stick on here.
