I believe we would have won more titles with him in the side.

It's a shame they only won the solitary title. They deserved to win so many more.

No John White was not all important. Dave Mackays twice broken leg had far more impact.

However, it's fair to say the loss of White, Mackay, Blanchflower and Jones had a cumulative effect.

Circumstances also had an effect. The league should have been won in 1960 and that would have meant Spurs would have been at their peak in the European Cup in 60/61 instead of 61/62,

Thank you soo much for this article.
It really is a great read!
I wasn't a member this time last year so it's the first time I've read it.
I remember less and less of the good times we had at the Lane back then.
This post has reignited some of them for me.

John White was a master on the pitch, he and Danny pulled the strings for that double winning side.
Such a tragic loss at the time and it's great to see him still honoured in this way. Thank you again.

I can appreciate and concur with your Dave Mackay comments but this is a tribute to John White so please leave it as such.

I was in my early twenties at the time, and so wasn't allowed to cry, but as me and my mates discussed the tragedy that evening a couple of us must have got dust in our eyes. Bloody Golders Green Road and its dust.

Wonderful story, Cosmic, about a much missed player and time. Thank you.

Thank you for posting that.
It brings back so many memories.
I was 18 at the time and was with my cousin who is the same age. When we heard the news we collapsed into one another's arms and started crying like babies.
He was one of our favourite players only Jimmy and Davie ranking above him and now he truly was The Ghost he was nicknamed.
The sense of shock and disbelief continued for several days before I could accept that he was really gone.
His death was the beginning of the end for that wonderful team ,the like of which I'm sure I will never see again.
