3rd in the league, one of just three unbeaten teams and the best defensive record so far with just two conceded.

That's not too shabby considering we're nowhere near hitting full tilt yet. Yes we need to start taking more chances and there are a few players short of form but 5 games in last season we only had 6 points.

All it takes is a couple of our forward players to get firing, start a couple of games well and we'll all be feeling a little more confident.

Besides it could be worse, we could be in the "London Stadium" and third bottom :D

3rd in the league and playing like shit still. When we start playing well, we could be on to something. But the boys have to pick it up now. We have to start playing well now as it will cost us in Moscow and against City. Gillingham is a nice game to give the first xi further rest then we have to start playing well against Boro and get out all the kinks.

`it'd definitely half full.

I like the look of sissoko on the right. Him and son are a bit pacier.

We've drawn one too many for my liking and It's important that it doesn't continue over the course of the season like last year which eventually did cost us.

Being unbeaten is nice but give me 4 wins and 1 loss over 3 wins and 2 draws any day of the week.

Not sure I agree with you on that. Let's say we lost that game to either Everton or Liverpool, either Everton would be on 15 points and 3 ahead of us instead of 2, or Liverpool would be on 12 points and level with us. All in all we would be in the same position but further behind Everton, or possibly behind Liverpool on goal difference. It's important we draw rather than lose to these teams as it gives them more confidence and a leg up on us.

If we'd have lost to Palace, Sunderland on the other hand, we'd all be pissed at losing to a team that is far inferior.

if I wasn't doing the comparison thread this season I'd be even happier than I am now, fixture for fixture we are the same as last season, but -2 down on GD, next week we face M'boro who are last seasons Norwich and we beat them, but have injury concerns going into the fixture, and the week after we face high flying Man City. if we draw v Boro, and lose to Man C we will have exactly the same amount of points we had at the same stage last season. so lets hope we hit our stride by then take all 3 off Boro and at least stop City in their stride by taking at least a point.

If we're doing comparisons in my opinion Boro are last season equivalent of Newcastle geographically whom we dropped 6 points against, so this could be our chance to make up some ground.

I'd say Burnley are replacement for Villa down to the colour of their shirts, and then Hull City would be Norwich City. Just my opinion of course, but overall we won 4 lost 2 against the relegated teams so we need to improve on that for the promoted teams.

the way the comparison thread has been over the years is the position of the team coming up, to the team going down

Burnley champs, Newcastle the better of the 3 relagated
Boro 2nd best, Norwich 2nd worst
Hull P/O - Villa just shit

though I do like your theory, just told me too late, and doesn't always tie in lol

I remember last season we didn't win in our first 4 games. But we played well and I was confident we would have a good season.

So I am currently confident of Poch knowing how to get the team performing. Good news that we haven't played great and are still unbeaten.

Slightly concerned that we are favouring power over finesse. At this stage I'd say we are a good bet for top 4.

Haven't let in a goal from open play yet - let that sink in for a second

Really? That is an impressive stat, although Liverpool did cause our defence a load of problems and Everton were without both Bolasie and Lukaku.

I don't think we have played particularly well in any of the games this season, but have accumulated points which is a good sign and hopefully we can hit our stride in time for a particularly difficult November.

The one thing that concerns me is that there are still signs that we haven't improved certain aspects from last season. We still can't sense when to kill a game (Stoke aside). Yesterday we should have smashed them, they are that bad. I know their keeper played well, but after our goal I thought we sat back a little rather than going for the kill, which left us vulnerable as one goal is never enough.

I also think our final ball often lacks quality or we play the wrong ball when having 2 one 1's etc.

Definitely half full, which is odd for me to say, being the eternal pessimist that I am.
However, I do get bored watching us.
I don't find our style of play at all exciting. I miss having flying wingers and that genius who could unlock a defence with one pass (I don't think we have that player still).
We're now becoming a team that will batter the opposition into submission through strength and force, which I shouldn't really complain about, but I will.

There shouldn't be a caveat really, doesn't matter if Liverpool caused our defence problems we still held out whilst other teams would have wilted and let in goals as evidence of what happened this season, and yes Lukaku didn't play but when does Lukaku ever score against us anyway?

3rd, very solid defensively and unbeaten - i'll take that every day of the week thanks.

If you listened to some on here you would think we were in the relegation zone. Some perspective please.

Well over half full. In spite of the fact that we aren't playing at all well and our 2 key players, Kane and Eriksen, are not at the races, we are getting results and keeping the ball out of our net. It seems to take us a while to get going each season and we are in 2nd gear at the moment. A few injury concerns but the covering players need time on the pitch as well. Monaco was disappointing but we bossed them and let in 2 sloppy goals. On a different day we could have shafted them.

Third.
Unbeaten.
Five points better off than last season.
Least goals conceded.
Not conceded from open play.
Best start for something like 5 years.
All this without Dembele until yesterday.
We're probably more affected by the Euros than others.
Not broken out of second gear yet, and only going to get better.

I'm sure the optimism would be higher if it wasnt for last Wednesday at wembley. There is more to come from this team and we're unbeaten in the first 5. Don't see why we wouldnt be up and around there the rest of the season.

we bought Sissoko for @Spursking
We have Kane back up
we have Dier back up
Wimmer has a new face

We made Wembley look glorious in blue & white; even played like England there
