I love how people are extrapolating our ppg and coming up with us being fourth. That's exactly how a league works.

And we just have to get through Wolves at home and then we get 2 weeks off until Palace to get all these returning (injuries and internationals) players up to speed a bit more. I wonder if we might try and arrange a behind closed doors match on that Cup final weekend to help with match fitness. I have no idea who we'd play because they'll all presumably be playing in their leagues but nothing helps more with match fitness than a match.

It’s at an indicator though, especially when taken with form, our present league position, and a points comparison with the same matches last season.

Or what would you prefer people base their predictions on? Their mood when they got out of bed this morning?

The best thing about it all, is that 4th is now entirely in our hands and quite doable.

I reckon 66 - 69 points is getting 4th this year. 7-8 more wins from our remaining fixtures is very achievable

We were in a worse position 21/22 season on 39 points after 24 games and made it to fourth with 71 points , all teams around us will drop points somewhere between now and the end of the season including us . A similar finish over the last fourteen games and top four should be attainable.

Interesting that we actually made up a bigger gap on Arsenal that year than we have between us at the same point this year.

In terms of this season's table, I'll be disappointed if we don't finish 5th at the minimum now. Every chance United hit another slump, I'm not convinced they've "turned a corner". Every time they put a run of games together they back it up with 2-3 shit shows and Ten Haag's face is on the back of the papers again. Villa haven't looked great for about 2 months now, and have been imping along in the league. That's without having to worry about European football every Thursday.

I think we're in a great position. Trust Ange, trust the players, trust our brilliant supporters who have been magnificent this season and we'll be fine.

Most of the current top 8 have to play one another still

City has now won their last 5, Arse last 4 and Man U last 3 while we are unbeaten in 5, putting us 4th in the form league

i still believe we can finish above arsenal though
I don’t think we can. Arsenal have really started to see form, obviously injuries will play a part for both teams but they are a better side than us currently. They control games way better than we do.

More meaningless stats , over the last 10 years in the PL an average of 72 points gets you fourth place. Unless we make a dramatic collapse well on target for that.

I think we will get top four without a doubt. We've only got the league to play for heading into the backend of the season and the injured players are coming back to fitness now. We did very well to cope with the amount of key players out over the winter and that included mid-week fixtures in the league. We'll have a lot of options to choose from now and more freshness than the other teams in UCL, UEL, UECL.

I also believe if we can get to April within six points of the leaders we have a great chance of the title because we play the three teams currently above us one after the other at the end of that month/start of May. This could be a tremendous opportunity if we just keep pushing through. I would like as everyone else to have some more convincing scorelines to match the performance level. We're the only team to score in every game, we've scored two goals in 16/24 games. Getting the third/fourth/fifth goal to really gloss up our victories and boost our GD hopefully will come. GD to be clear is hampered by our goals conceded as we're between 2-5 goals away from the highest scorers (City, Liverpool, Arsenal) while having half the GD of theirs.

So we can improve then! That's a positive.

Arsenal have fallen off a cliff in spring two years in a row. I wouldn't bet against them doing it again. If we can build a momentum like at the start of the season, I think we can finish above Arsenal.

I don't have any hope of finishing above Liverpool or City, though.

I might be wrong, but I thought the point being made was that if everybody's played the same number of games and you extrapolate the current ppg then by definition you'll end up predicting everybody to finish in the place they're currently in. That's just how the maths works. If you look at the top half of the table, the only team that hasn't played 24 games is City with 23...

Or is it just realistic?
You said last season at certain points that Arsenal would win the league, and how great they were.

You probably said we'd never catch them the season before.

They've shat themselves every season from Spring onwards under Arteta. What makes you think, realistically, that they won't do the same again this season?

What makes you think, realistically, that we won't find our early season form with us having a now nearly fully fit squad?

It’s not wildly optimistic to hope we get back to our early season form now we have all our players back available but to hope we do that while Arsenal also drop off, having been extremely consistent this season already, is pretty far fetched. The most likely outcome is we have a strong finish to the season and get top 4 while Arsenal continue their title challenge and most likely fall slightly short.

Don't forget the europe factor.
That always takes its toll and could yet play into our hands going into the final stretch. Depending on how long the teams above us stay in the UCL/Europa.

How much remains to be seen of course.
