As said, tweaks at the back with Caulker, Naughton coming back, Dawson returning to fitness. Those 3 can directly replace Corluka, King & Nelsen. We bring in a new 1st choice CB. Missed the boat with Cahill I think, reasonable fee. A lot of you have mentioned Vertonghen.

Pienaar would be more than happy being a squad player I would imagine. And by that I mean a squad player that is used more regularly than Redknapp uses them. Squad players are there to rotate with our strongest players. Not sit on the bench game after game and wait until one of our 1st 11 get injured. 3 games in a week and Redknapp will start the same team if injuries allow it, whereby any of the other top teams coaches will rotate 2 or 3 players for each match.

Yep, that's exactly it - but its exactly why he wanted out.

To be honest I doubt there is going to be a MASSIVE overhaul in playing staff. Especially when that same team could have potentially got us into top 4.

Also, we all know how long Levy takes selling players. We also have the 25 man squad rule to consider and I doubt Levy would sanctrion any new signings without getting rid of the 'deadwood' first.

I predict there won't be a summer of change. We might add a few names and selll a some but not an overhaul.

Agree. Our wage bill is still too high, especially with loaned players coming back (Jenas, Bentley etc). We do not currently have the resources to compete with the CL teams especially with the impending stadium cost. I would think DL is banking on the FFP rules kicking in and making a difference over the next few years both to teams that are over spent and to the cost of players.

Whether there's a massive overhaul in personel or not, one thing we need to do better is utilise the squad. A manager who knows how to effectively rotate the starting 11 is a must IMO.

To be fair, with Huddlestone and Dawson missing most of the season and Corluka being loaned out, we've not exactly had many players who can come in and there won't be a big drop in quality. Our first 11, Sandro and King is pretty much all we actually have.

To be fair, don't loan players out if we haven't the adequate cover?

Naughton (right and left full back), Corluka (Right back and CB), Pienaar (midfield), Bassong (CB) - even Bentley (right midfield/wing cover), Jenas (centre/right midfield)...and then there are the youngsters Townsend (left and right winger), Caulker (CB) etc who if we were really short we could retain. But I guess HR thought we had enough.

Thought I'd bump this thread as its relevant now.
Much of what I thought at the time has come to pass. Managerial upheavel. Players leaving. Absolutely Massive change at the club this summer.
Some didnt see it coming, some agreed to an extent. I think the appointment of AVB will be just the beginning. Corluka & Kranjcar already gone. Saha and Nelsen not retained. Vertonghen & Sigurdsson looking like done deals. The need for a Modric replacement, 2 strikers..... this is the summer we have all been waiting for I think.

I don't see that we're having a massive upheaval in players to be honest. i think it's fair to say that our players from last season can be grouped into two categories.

Regulars: Friedal, Cudicini, Walker, Kaboul, Dawson, King, Gallas, Ekotto, Lennon, Modric, Bale, Sandro, Parker, Livermore, Huddlestone, Defoe, VdV, Ade

Non-regaulars: Gomes, Corluka, Bassong, Rose, Nelsen, Bentley, Jenas, Pienaar, Kranjcar, GdS, Saha

The majority of the regaulars will be here next season, actually i would imagine all of them except for Modric.
Then from the non-regulars we'll likely still have a couple or so, prob. Gomes and Rose with maybe GdS).

I wouldn't call that a major upheaval in players. It's trimming the shit from the squad and replacing with (hopefully) quality players.

The probable sale of the Croatia 3 (2 gone, 1 to go)
Release of Saha & Nelsen
Adebayor returning to Man City (maybe temporarily)
Return of Caulker & Naughton to the squad, Perhaps too Bassong as he has the pace to play AVBs high line.

I wouldnt be surpirsed to see 2 or 3 of King, Gallas, Defoe, Huddlestone, Dawson leaving due to age, injury record or not fitting in AVBs system. Bassong probably a much better fit for him than Dawson in terms of attributes (Pace).

Levy seems more eager to sell this year with Kranjcar and Corluka already having gone, joining the departure of Pav in January.

Considering the nucleus of the squad we used last year, we could see massive changes IMHO to the squad we will use this year with possibly all of Naugton Caulker Bassong Pienaar Giovani having a part to play, along with hopefully Vertonghen, Sigurdsson, a Modric replacement and two new strikers.

A lot of familiar faces next season, but we'll be a new look Spurs...... Again. Hopefully a better one that the Ramos era.

I expect about 5 or 6 new signings plus a few youngsters for the youth development. Although Adebayor will probably be one of the new signings, so about 4 or 5 new faces in all.

I wouldn't say it's a massive overhaul as such but definitely a crucial number of changes, no more so than the new manager and coaching staff.

I'm anticipating something like;
New Manager (AVB)
New Goalkeeper
New Centre Back (Vertonghen)
Replacement for Kranjcar (Gylfi)
Replacement for Modric (Moutinho?)
2 New Centre Forwards (Adebayor and L De Jong?)

I expect Caulker and one of Smith or Naughton to stay, maybe even Kane as well. Huddlestone will be a welcome return too.

So that's definitely going refresh the squad overall.

We should see these out the door too;
Cudicini, Bassong, Gallas, Bentley, Giovani, Jenas

The biggest change will be the change of style though. We already play wonderful attacking football so now we need to press higher up the pitch, and keep the ball better.

It's hard to get rid of the deadwood because:
a) They are mostly crap and no-one wants them and
b) Levy demands unrealistic transfer fees.

Hope we can get rid of likes of:
Gomes,Khuloumo,Bassong, Corluka,Pienaar,Modric,Defoe,Saha,Gio,Jenas,Bentley,King and Nelsen.

Then bring in:
A young GK e.g Krul/Vorm/Butland
A CB - Vengthorn
A CM - Siggurson
A RM/LM- Dembele/Frei/ Robben? ;)
ST x 2 - Remy/Diamio

Do that and we will have some team, however more than likely we will struggle to sell most of the ones mentioned and end up in the last 2 hours of the window signing Grant Holt.

Exciting though but will ultimately be dissapointing...standard spurs.

Don't see why we'd get rid of Pienaar. Now that we're not tied to Redknapp's rigid system, Pienaar would be a top squad member, especially in a 4-3-3

He wants to go back to Everton where he's comfortable, a starter, and appreciated, he's on high wages, and we can recoup our money on an odd signing.
