If anyone tells me in this forum that Harry Winks is good and we should keep him I'll send a flipping footage of their equalise.

You look forward to something for a good couple of weeks and then it goes like that and really ruins your day. I sometimes wish I wasn’t so invested in football, even if that meant that the highs wouldn’t be as electric a feeling.

In our first five PL games, we have now conceded three goals (Everton, Southampton’s first, and Spammers’ first) and a penalty (Newcash) from basically the exact same free kick from our right side. Arguably you could also add the Spammer equalizer, although that was more a matter of not being able to properly clear the ball.

Oppo clearly knows that they can always get something from a set piece in our half, because we simply cannot defend in the air. That is why I believe that we will need to blood Rodon much earlier than what we may have anticipated. Because the rest of the bunch simply cannot compete aerially.

Whereas our overall drop in individual quality at CB (from the heyday of Toby and Jan) truly is staggering, I do not believe that I have ever seen such a disorganized defenence under Mourinho.

Everton at home. 1 x FK. Header
Southampton away. 1 of 2 goals. Penalty. Other a ball over the top.
Newcastle at home. FK -> Penalty
Man Utd away. Penalty.
West Ham at home. 2 x FK. 1 Header. 1 not defending edge of the box. 1 x OG.

5 out of 8 goals directly from set pieces. 1 other indirectly from a set piece. 2 others non set-piece related.

Concentration levels aren't good enough.

We miss a truly dominant CB. For the organisational point of view and the desire to get his head on absolutely everything. Just get the ball up and away from danger.

Thoroughly dislike these people for almost everything they are but a proper everything on the line Adams/Terry type would makes us trophy challengers.

Was it me or were there numerous times that Toby looked favourite for a ball and then just stepped off

There definitely were, but he dropped off so he could then protect the space as opposed to him coming off short and the opposition nicking the ball and him being left in the dust. He doesn't have he legs anymore but with that in mind he was doing the right thing IMO.

We lost that because Sissoko and Aurier just don't have football brains. When it matters, when it really matters, what do they do. Give away 2 fucking stupid freekicks. Its basics....they're going away from goal, don't foul. Sissoko then doesn't jump for the goal.

You can't compensate for that. We may have let them onto us but its those fucking individual stupid fuck ups that will cost us dearly

Absolutely and you can add Winks not putting his foot through the ball. He does that and the game is over.

It’s just basic decision making and it happens too often.

Toby defends like a boxer that's been hit in the face too many times.

He just shits himself and backs away from things he's 60/40 to win.

And sadly this has been the case for a couple of years now, and pretty much the reason no big clubs bit at his relatively low buy out clause.

Doherty back in for Aurier methinks now too.

He deserved chance as was good against Man U but time to switch again now!

Sanchez was poor all game. Terrible passing and nervy defending exemplified by the OG. Such a shame. I had high hopes for him but he clearly doesn't have it. Jose knows this only too well.

I think the one positive we can all take out of the game is that at least we knew Winks was on the pitch today!

Honeslty this it the worst defence we have had in along time.. Aurier well we all know he has a fuck up or two in him... but to be fair that was never a free kick in the last minute but at same time he gave the player the chance to win it. Toby im afraid is past his best, Sanchez just doesn't fill you with confidence, Really like the look of Regulion but lets be honest he leaves lot of questions to defensively. On top of that we have Dier who doesn't exactly inspire confidence and see lot of pressure being thrown on Rondon shoulders despite the fact id imagine most on here have never seen him play. He is going to need time to settle people also need to remember it is a step up his taking so may need time to adapt.

Just be grateful no fans were there to witness that.

That would have been a blood bath of boos and vitriol at the end.

Although on a positive most West Ham fans would've left after 16 minutes...

I am still very mad online. Fuming. But I wouldnt have it any other way. As a miserable human, torturing myself is fun.

I guess, but those blaming the defense might ask why the hammers carved through the midfield time after time to even get the chances. I thought we signed Hojbjerg to stop that.
I think the problem isn't Hojbjerg but who is playing alongside him. Hojbjerg isn't Kante - he's never going to cover the entire midfield defensively - but with Sissoko in the side we lose a lot of intelligence in possession, and with Winks, we sacrifice physicality and defensive nous.

The real problem is that we took off Ndombele and didn't have Lo Celso on the pitch. Lo Celso will always show for the ball, use it intelligently and take the pressure off, but will also get stuck in and do a job defensively when possible. We always need at least one of those 2 on the pitch if we want to have any semblance of control in the middle.
