I am resigned to Liverpool winning the title, in fact I'm all for it. Alright, I loathe the fact that our CL final capitulation helped tip them over the line to become winners, but teams rarely win back to back PL titles. So if Liverpool win this year let's assume they won't win it next year, meanwhile City may well change manager and next year could be a transitional one. As for Arsenal, United and Chelsea, well they would still need massive improvements to contend. So I see a cheeky little Mourinho shaped opportunity... (and, cue rainbows)

We’ve got all the expected top half at home in the second half of the season except Chelsea. We will get top 4. Im v confident.

just got to handle those tricky away games to relegation strugglers. But having an advantage in those 6 pointers is gold dust.

I'm not trying to be hyperbolic but I seriously think this weekend's game will shape our season.

Win and we'll be right up there, we'll use the confidence from it to blitz aside the rest of our Christmas opposition and really cement our place back in the top four for the rest of the season, we'll be more focused on breathing down Leicester's and City's necks than worrying about the teams behind us. Lose and we face an almighty battle for top four that will last all the way until May.

Obviously be nice to win but I don’t think anything will be defined on this game we’ve all seen how quickly it can change. We kicked off against West Ham less than a month ago 12 pts behind.

I agree with you on the benefit of a win but if by some act of skullduggary Chelsea get a result I don't think it will make a difference, the momentum is with us and it is genuine improvement not a flash in the pan. We will still overtake them soon and leave them behind.
That said I do reckon we'll win anyway.

Will be a very interesting game this weekend. The first time Jose has had a full week off between games which will allow him to make more of an impact on the training ground to impress his methods. After a defensive backs to the wall performance against Wolves, I hope we will have a fresher look and more dominant game on Sunday

From December 4th

How you feeling now? :)
Not taking the piss we were all in the same boat but I can't help wondering what odds we could have got then on us being in the top four by Christmas.

It just shows how quickly things can change doesn’t it. We win and it’s in our hands. Didn’t see that happening at all under Poch. Makes me wonder where we’d be had we sacked him after Brighton like we should of.

We do have a lot of tough home games coming up in the second half of the season but beat Chelsea and it’s in our own hands and will then be up to us as to how we do with those games coming up. Leicester on the last day could be interesting.

Leicester are our final home game, we finish away to Palace

Not sure where to put this, so here will do...

I think we have a rather favourable run over Christmas/New Year. If we can get a result against Chelsea we have Brighton 2 days before they play Bournemouth at home, Norwich 2 days after they play Villa away, and Southampton 3 days after they play Palace at home.

With how tight the bottom half of the table is I can see all three teams heavily rotating their squads for our games, in favour of the more "winnable" games.

I know it'll be the same for every team, but I'm really positive about picking up points this Christmas.

Been watching us for too long to think any game is "winnable". They are and they aren't. We could beat chelsea at home and lose the next two. Spurs will never do anything expected.

True, I guess we'll always have that feeling until we start winning stuff, even then it may be hard to shake.

On a positive aspect, the 16/17 Xmas period 14th Dec - 4th Jan was like this;

Played 6
won 6
Scored 19
Conceded - 3

Beat Chelsea

15/16

Played 5
Won 3
Drew 1
Lost 1
Scored 9
Conceded 3

Lost to Newcastle

17/18

Played 5
Won 4
Lost 1
Scored 13
Conceded 6

Lost to City 4-1

So if we beat Chelsea tomorrow we really set ourselves up for a good period. Our recent xmas record against the poorer teams is very good.

Lets win tomorrow first! I think you are right but to make it happen we have to win some big games. If we can get a win tomorrow we hzve some decent games ahead to plough through.

Great time to play Liverpool after their efforts and travel in the World club championship. Fancy Leicester to win that one.

Happy with the Man City win tonight, with the best will in the world we aren't going to catch them they are too far ahead and too good and likely to improve their form as the season goes on. Leicester on the other hand aren't as good and won't improve and may even drop off. It's going some to predict that we'll catch Leicester but they are the far more likely of the two.
I wonder what odds I could get on a top four of Liverpool, City, Spurs and United.

Liverpool have a real slag of a run waiting for them when they get back...
Code:
19. 2019/12/26 20:00 Leicester City - Liverpool
20. 2019/12/29 16:30 Liverpool - Wolverhampton Wanderers
21. 2020/01/02 20:00 Liverpool - Sheffield United
22. 2020/01/11 17:30 Tottenham Hotspur - Liverpool
23. 2020/01/19 16:30 Liverpool - Manchester United
24. 2020/01/23 20:00 Wolverhampton Wanderers - Liverpool
They play a few of the teams around us (1 of them twice) and 1 of the teams above us (and us) in their next 6. Seeing as they're so fucking unstoppable I expect them to take a lot of points from those teams (not us though of course).
