I was sort of getting to the point that I wasn’t entirely sure that we would need a replacement for PEH if he were to leave as I was feeling we were pretty stacked for CM’s what with Bentancur being back and us pretty much having at least 2 players who can play each role but now I’m not sure. I know we shouldn’t change plans because of an injury but I’m just not sure we can afford to not replace him.

We absolutely need another CM. There can be no doubt now.

it’s not squad bloating either. PEH will be gone soon. Skipp is not nearly good enough. GLC likely not long either. And we want to be in Europe.

we need 6 high quality midfielders at a minimum. Right now we have 4 that I am comfortable are here long term

I don’t think it’s a forgone conclusion GLC goes. IF he continues like he did against Villa I’d expect him to stay. Ange clearly rates him considering how he talks about him. Lot of football to be played tho before we get to that point for sure but i wouldn’t write him off yet. Furthermore we should also look at Donley considering he’s one of the best players in our youth team and HG/club trained. Another young DM with potential probably would be good tho if PEH goes. If we didn’t have injuries tho we would be pretty stacked and we still have Skipp let’s not forget.

I'd love us to push the boat out to Scalvini who I know you've advocated and is undoubtedly a huge talent.

Would shore up a long term problem position at CB ultimately but has been known to play DM so could cover there in the interim.

So many needs now. Some more permanent than others, but far too many for one window. We have to start chipping away and hope that come the end of the summer window we are much more balanced. I do think a couple of additions in January really will be a boost for this season, but it may come a bit too late, given the horrendous suspension/injury issues.

It would be sensible to try to get the PEH replacement in start of January, then come of end of season (or even end of Jan) offload Pierre.

Very exciting talent. Think he’d suit the system perfectly. Right footed but can play ether side comfortably. Think he’s even played LB once or twice. Fast, big, good on the ball, eye for a pass. Barca really fucked up letting him go. He’s one of the most hyped young defenders around at the moment. Wouldn’t be too expensive ether but really there is a lot of interest in him. Would be an incredibly sensible move but I don’t see it due to the high demand.

Agree highly unlikely. Don't forget Nice are unbeaten in the league and won't want to sell whilst still in a title race.

And if they do it'll be to Utd given the imminent Jim Ratcliffe investment. They were close to signing him in the summer. Varane linked away in Jan too so would make sense for them to go back.

Can’t agree more. Would be a phenomenal purchase. Can’t see it happening but one can dream.

I don't think a CM is necessary unless GLC is definitely going in the summer especially if Deki is a long term option in there. That gives us six midfield options excluding Hojbjerg, Skipp, Donley and Devine.

Tbh I’ve really liked some of the names in the press but i can’t see it ending up with anyone other the Kelly. I think even Utd might struggle to get Todibo, seen him linked to all the big clubs recently. Also another factor is there is no way he comes to us to be a rotation option when VDV and Romero are fully fit.

Most links are made up. We're not spending 100 on someone who play same position as Maddison.

It was literally on Twitter that we are interested and are monitoring his development…is he an attacking midfielder ?

We are not going to buy Florian Wirtz. He is one of the best attacking midfielders in the world right now and apparently Bayern are in for him for at least 130m Euro.
There is really no need to monitor his development. This guy is not an unproven talent anymore.

I’m not saying we would spend that money or buy Wirtz who is one of my favourite players, but we 100 percent must aim to sign players who are as good if not better than what we have. I’m tired of this “let’s not buy this player because he’s in x’s position”. We need better quality throughout the squad. Plus Wirtz and Maddison could easily play together. As could Eze etc…..

I do agree with this, I’d also add that in the case of AMC Maddison is incredibly injury prone it seems. In theory, and especially if we got into the CL, we would certainly be playing enough games to warrant bringing in a player like Wirtz without it being considered waisted money.

That being said… we aren’t getting Wirtz. Regardless of his skill set we aren’t spending even £70 mil on a player let alone £100 mil.

Who was the source ? I mean i’m sure we would be watching him because pretty much ever club around the world will be watching him. He’s a monumental talent. Yes he’s an AMC. But he won’t go for under £100 mil, he only just signed a contract extension until 27 so BL won’t be doing anyone any favours re price. Really tho I expect every big team to be after him when he does leave. Essentially it would be like us buying Haaland when he was at BVB.

We need to think a bit left field here, the chances of us having so many injuries and suspensions in midfield at the same time again are so slim, we need someone to come in on a nominal fee in January who is out of contract in the summer who might fancy going into coaching….
