I can imagine WLB in the office next to Daniel with a cup to the wall. Shouting things to his mate on the laptop at the moment.

great work mate. 👏

As usual we’re leaving it far too late.
Groundhog Day
We're hardly the only ones still doing deals. The whole market comes alive in these days - that's the reason it's Groundhog Day is because all clubs suddenly start sharpening pencils to actually do deals.

Just like me and my Uni essays. 6 week deadline? Sure. Handed every single one in during the final hour that you were allowed to, having finished them not long before.

Agreeing with it being the end of the transfer window so of course it's going to be frantic but also because I remember some epic all-nighters the day before uni assignments were due.

A sure fire way to get a 2:2, tried and tested by myself and Premier League Chairmen

2 days to go - we still have so many outgoings to be agreed & done. Growing pessimistic that we will not do whats required
The 2 we seem close on are Johnson and Fati. We don't need to sell to sign those 2.

The reason why we leave it late is to exert more leverage/pressure in getting favourable terms

It's high risk, but can work out but also can see us miss out with little time to sort other targets.

Most of the bigger Clubs don't actually leave the majority of their business this late.

They've clear targets and act swiftly and decisively.

Interesting view which I agree with! The thing that’s annoying is why are we not acting like a big club and acting decisively?

I think this window has been a bit of both. Some early moves, Madders, and Vicario.. then Micky and Soloman added.. (plus a couple for the future on Philips and Veliz) attention then very focussed on Harry Kane. In the last 2 weeks more work has been done leading up to deadline.

Don't forget there's been a lot of clubs in for a lot of our players, but the deal went cold, or player didn't want the move. We've been trying.

[edit]
The majority of incomings aren't happening now, just the outgoings. That's understandable because of the level, skill, attitude, remaining contract length and age of what we're hocking.

Do you mean when they are making signings like Udogie, Vicario, Maddison, and Van de Ven?

Maddison is completely different. With only one year left on his Leicester contract there was instant value there....no need to drag those negotiations too long.

We leave it late because our squad is an ongoing mess. The players change, but the mess remains. We're never just a player or two away from a well balanced group. It's very often needing last minute specials to shift 4-6 players and see if we can swing one or two over the line to come in. Then everyone has a sugar high for a day or two, praising all the 'business' that happened.

Its tiresome. Its unavoidable at this club. And the only wish/hope I have is that deadline day will return to being the day before season kick off.

I get your point and agree it’s a problem when we do it every window but all of Liverpool, United and Chelsea are still looking for players. Let’s not pretend it’s just a Spurs thing.
