He didn't give me anything to worry about... a little nervous perhaps and to be expected I suppose..... I must say though given the choice I'd have paid a little extra for Raya. The bigwigs decided otherwise though so let's see how he develops.

It’s likely going to take him at least 10 league games to shake the early nerves which are inevitable for a keeper new to the league and country. I thought he was fine after a shaky start - v unfortunate for the second goal which he would’ve comfortably claimed had it not been for the toe of VDV intervening.

Brentford fans did exactly what they should and I'd hope we do the same. It's all part of the game and something he'll need to deal with.

Well then I hope every other set of fans does that to them with their new keeper and they get relegated as a result. Serves them right for being buggers with raya.

One of the earliest games I can remember we were shouting who ate all the pies to Kevin pressman of sheff weds. It is 100% normal, how long have you been watching football?

tbh I know it’s normal I’m just pissed off their fans had an effect on the game because were crying for everything and the ref subsequently was biased to them with his decisions. And how they played sill buggers with the Raya transfer. And that they were home for this game when we should be home if we’re also going to be away on the last day. And that we have lost our talismanic striker because of Daniel Levy.

Just pissed off and a win today would have been the tonic.

I think he will be targeted this season as seems an emotional lad, however he has played in Italy the home of all dirty tricks so should be fine.

I was just hoping for a goalkeeper who was going to be a calm influence on an incredibly poor defence last season.

Im sure he will be fine but I did wonder if this was the style of keeper Ange approved, maybe an option over Forster might be needed as he is not the most mobile

This style of goal keeping is what is required for Ange system. In SPL, there were no teams that could challenge Celtic on transition - so he could afford Joe Hart as GK.

In PL, he cannot have a Joe Hart. He needs a GK who is active & who is ready to do crazy things like, coming out of the box. Except for rushing out he did play calmly on ball. Calmly as in, calmly waiting for opposition forwards to gang up on him inviting them, then playing out. When Brentford increased the pressure, Vicario did start playing long and mixed it up in 2nd half. So, he seems ok to learn

Key is , how fast he can integrate with back4 and vice versa.

If Vicario trusts Van De Ven can cover the space with ease, he would not come out that frequently. And today is the first time VDV is playing for us. I think we can take lot of positives out of this game.

For me, this GK display is a positive - positive for the system needs. And Vicario going long more in 2nd half is a positive in that ,he is also learning about the league.

Way too early to draw any conclusion on him one way or another. Let’s see how he does. New team, new league, new city, new manager and defenders in front of him. He can’t be expected to crack it from day one

He’s going to take a while to settle in and get used to the premier league. I do think he has some worrying tendencies that will be exploited by the opposition at the current time. But once he settles he should be ok.

We need to be patient.

Clearly had some nerves, but looks decent.

Watched him pretty closely today, interesting performance.

whilst he looked a bit nervy, he also had the balls to keep playing high and playing football.
Slight concern about how he pushes balls back into the danger areas, something I noted earlier in the thread looking at some of his videos, but seems to have good hands, confident enough to come, can play with feet and has the agility.

definitely no where near as bad as a few people have made out, he’s decent.

I’d like us to try and nip in on the Raya deal if it hasn’t been announced already.

it is early doors but Vic doesn’t fill me with confidence, not so much his ability to stop the ball but he’s strikes me as a player who’s going to have moments of madness pretty regularly.

if we don’t get a second keeper someone has to have a word about those parries in to dangerous areas, lucky not to be punished today.
So does Raya. Watch Brentford's 5-1 loss to Newcastle last season.

The biggest issue for me is that you can see he's not very cultured with his feet, and that's not really something that you see coached into goalkeepers.

He seems like someone we may 'get by' with, but at these early stages he doesn't look like someone who will complement our game from the back.

Certainly not all bad but I do feel like the best thing going forward will be to try and limit his involvements as much as we realistically can and that when he does have that ball at his feet, work hard to give him clear options. All the other goalkeeping aspects don't seem to be of any concern as of now.

Think things are probably just a little fast for him, at the moment but I think As he gets more used to the speed of this league, he’s going to be really good. We just need to be patient with him, he’s going to screw up, but he’s already an upgrade at the goalkeeper position, and I’d expect him to only get better.

He will have a bumpy road in this first period in English football.
However I do think he has the tools. How good he ends up being only time will tell but happy fo him to have that chanc rto be honest.

This is it really, he seems very calm and composed on the ball (too calm on that one first few seconds of the game), but he is coming from the Italian League which, let's face it, doesn't prioritize high, coordinated pressing across the league nor has the level of pace and speedy players that exists in the PL.

He'll get used to that in time but he looks to be playing exactly how Ange wants him to play so can't fault him. Plus he looks technically sound (if not exceptional) with the ball at his feet, so I don't feel worried when he gets it, unlike Hugo.

His decision making looks good but his speed of decision will improve in time.

My biggest gripe is his long balls seem a bit lofty and it would benefit the team if they were more driven, but not sure he has that in his locker, which is a shame.

Ederson & Allison were wild when they first came to England too.

He'll learn with time. He'll realise stuff he could probably get away with in Italy he won't get away with in England.
