It's not the only way. When something like this happens there is no right and wrong way to show respect. It just happens that in this case those that made the decision felt this as the best way. I was quite wound up about it this morning and have calmed down after taking a few hours away, but I still don't understand why some can't respect that this wasn't an easy decision, but it's the one they've gone with. How would say America act of their president died whilst in office for example, just carry on as if nothing had happened?Must say I don't understand why cancelling everything is the only form of respect.
As others have said, gatherings at sporting occasions could of been used as a platform to convey some profoundly moving gestures of respect etc
Again there is no right or wrong way to show respect. Those in the position to make the decision chose this way. Just accept it and understand I doubt they came to it lightly. There was obviously far more for them to consider than what else will the fans do on Saturday afternoon. How anyone can argue against this I do not know
One of America's core values are patriotism, so can't really compare what they'd do to what we should do.It's not the only way. Thank fuck it's friday and the idiot fraternity will soon be out on the diamond white and domestos.
You were doing well until the last two sentences. I don’t think it does or doesn’t ‘deserve’ missing a football match, which is the whole point. I don’t think the two are related in any way, which doesn’t mean I don’t have a grasp of history or respect the queen. As for the last sentence, that’s a totally inappropriate and ludicrous comparisonSpot on. I’m amazed at the number of people who don’t appreciate or understand the magnitude of this event.
Her death is the end of era. When she was born The British Empire was still in its pomp. As Head of State she presided over the peaceful dismantling of that .Empire and she did this with great understanding and dignity. She was in many ways our last link to those days and to the wartime generation which as Churchill said was our “finest hour”.
She wasn’t some political hack who happened to be PM for a few years. She was our Head of State for nearly three quarters of a century who presided over us moving from those Empire days to what we are now, basically a group of islands off the coast of Continental Europe. Through all that she embodied, to many people both here and abroad, everything that was great about our country.
If you don’t feel her death doesn’t deserve missing a football match I feel sorry for you.
If your mother died on Thursday afternoon would you be going to a football match on the Saturday?
Ffs SonProper match day thread this
I concede you are right about my last sentence and have subsequently deleted it. Sorry if I caused offense. You were doing well until the last two sentences.
