How are we an unprofitable club? We're the 8th richest club in the world according to last week's report from Deloitte. The new stadium is also finished and turns over more than a million pound profit each game on food & drink alone! Plus we reported our record profits and kit deal last year. Sounds very profitable to me!!!!!!
It’s peanuts.

Alphabet are almost 400 times the size of Spurs based on market cap and our alleged sale price (£2 billion)

lets say there are 30 home games a season, £30 million matchday profit using your figures. Based on 2018 income Alphabet earn that much every 15 hours

The reported price which is said to be around £2billion seems beyond a price anyone would see as viable, it would for instance make more sense to buy a cheeper option and invest money in it wouldn't it? For that reason it may be more of an investment in rather than a takeover of the club, perhaps buying 30% of the club. That way Enic realises a large part of its asset and the investor gets a venue for whatever it wants to use it for. I'm not really knowledgeable on these businesses matters but this makes sense to my innocent little mind.

That’s what it is. Levy has said publicly and privately about outside investment. Eg. Man City has some investment from China in 2015 and an American company called Silverlake. It will be similar to that if it were to happen. Whether enic or the club would see the money though is another matter. They might pay off the stadium perhaps.

In 2014 they acquired a medtech firm and a few online advertising companies. Otherwise in all the hundreds of acquisitions they’ve made, all have been tech. They have contributed to the core business and in some cases billions to their value.

And now they’re going to make their second largest acquisition ever (more expensive than acquiring YouTube) to buy a foreign football club??

Exactly, it’s not likely at all. If anything it will be Stadium sponsorship.

Aside from the fact this is quite clearly rumour and nonsense, Google has a really excellent reputation for sticking by their projects and not just kind of forgetting they existed after about 3 years.

Looking forward to all the season ticket holders getting an email-

"We're really proud of what we have achieved with Tottenham Hotspur FC but we wanted to let you know that from 2026 it will no longer receive further support or security updates. The functionality of the stadium will be incorporated into our newly acquired 'Airbnb' platform and Jose Mourinho will moved to support our new Rocket League esports team."

Plausible, aside from the implication that Jose will still be here in 2026!

The way to make a small fortune
by investing in a football club

is to start with a large fortune

It's as easy as ABC.

You only make money from football
by not spending any.

Pretty much. People talk about football being big business etc, it really isn’t. The turnover of even the massive clubs is miniscule relatively speaking.

A football club can be a great advertising tool though of course.

I am very skeptical on Alphabet taking over us. But if there is one thing that gives me hope is the Google’s new innovation on streaming games on cloud with their new gaming Service ‘Stadia’. Stadia has promised a lot of things . Since Nov2019 launch it has got mixed response. It’s essentially still in beta phase. This Stadia service if it clicks it will be the next big thing from Google & parent Alphabet....
This stadia service also needs marketing at some levels given it might be changing the fundamentals of Gaming industry including playing games on YouTube...
If Alphabet believe their product is ready what better way than to market with their “Google Stadia” Spurs stadium .
I am reaching here but if it’s really Alphabet takeover this could be the only reason I can think of why they need marketing

I hope we get a billionaire owner, not a listed company that will focus dividends to shareholders, simply because we need investment not profits diverted.

Go look at my earlier post.
Alphabet would NOT be buying Spurs. Not now. Not ever. Yes, they could sign some extremely lucrative sponsorship deals. But generally speaking, companies do not buy teams.
However, this could be a part of a sale to Sergie or Page. As they are collectively worth over 120BN. They could easily buy the club. And then have Google be the biggest sponsor (naming rights, shirts, etc). Sorta the same way, the Oil boys bought city, and then had their other businesses invest in sponsorships (Ethiad).

Think I read somewhere that Google want to start going into living market, so like Google Flats and houses. Hence the rebrand of the 'google home' to 'Nest'. Bit dystopian, but I would also agree they'd be interested in the area as a gentrification spot with the club as the centre piece

'A bit dystopian'? Kid, it sounds positively fucked up. ?

Correct me if wrong but as a listed company surely we have to announce any potential takeover quite quickly because it can have an influence on the price. So if rumours persist tottenham will have to release as statement as per below

Google bought Nest, so it's not really a 'Rebrand' so much as tying together the smart device brand (Thermostat etc.) with the controllers.
