Lo Celso doesn’t set the world alight in his first start, away to Bayern, in a weakened team and people draw all these conclusions ?

What do you do with your mrs when she puts too much milk in your tea?

I put her back in the dungeon, and reduce her already meagre rations of bread and water until her behaviour is “corrected” of course.......

Houdini gave me the tip. Works a dream.

Not sure what else people really wanted him to do?

He worked hard (lacking match fitness as he’s hardly played), he played a good part in our goal and created another couple of openings and generally did ok on the ball.

He couldn’t get in the game enough because we had absolutely no control or foothold in the game in CM, which limited what he could do. We also had a very mixed (weaker) team out with no real cohesion.

Had a feeling this would happen too. Gets a small chance in a weaker team with zero control or presence in the game and because he subsequently fails to get in the game enough he gets given poor reviews.

We have to remember that some of the players tonight have hardly featured and so will be short of match sharpness and fitness. And we were away to pretty much Bayern’s first team bar Lewandowski and Alaba.

Also, for anyone interested, Lo Celso's defensive stats compared to fellow AMs Sessegnon and Eriksen last night:

Tackles
Lo Celso 3 (more than any other player on our team)
Sessegnon 1
Eriksen 0

Interceptions
Lo Celso 2 (more than any other player on our team)
Sessegnon 0
Eriksen 0

Clearances
Eriksen 2
Lo Celso 1
Sessegnon 1

I think he will shine in a team that’s playing well. He has great technical ability and can spot a pass. He’s not a player that can single handily carry a team.

I wanted him to track back to help poor KWP out a bit. KWP was getting fucked more than Jenna Jamieson at the height of her career and GLC was stood up on the halfway line watching like the dirty voyeur he is.

Blatantly needs to be played as an 8 or 10. I really don't understand why we continued with the ponder bros Dier and Sissoko in midfield when they can't control and pass the ball at more than half speed when we had Lo Celso ready made to go in and give the midifield a bit more possession and zip.

Been explained thoroughly. A midfielder according to Mourinho, and you may or may not agree but that's besides the point, must be able to organise the team. A new arrival who is still settling in, and you may again disagree but that is how Mourinho views him, cannot at the same time be able to boss around other teammates.

I can't believe the posts I've been reading. The criticism is he didn't care to track back.

He is not a RW and he never will. He's a fantastic #10 who is probably the best pass spotter, even ahead of Eriksen.

He needs to be played in the middle, either in a CM pair or as an AM. He has played there at every club he's been, and we signed him after his performances as a CM. If we wanted a RW, we should've signed a RW, not Lo Celso

I'm getting confused. The player who last week HAD to play instead of Lucas no questions asked is now not a RW? I soon won't be able to keep track on this kid.

I agree with you. Only thing is JM likes players who are flexible, and still influence. Would be very harsh to start knocking him after arriving with no pre-season, then injury, then change of manager, who are finding each other out.

Are we all a wee bit guilty of believing that all left footed Argentines have the potential to be as influential as Messi and Maradona.

No one is

Regardless of whether he is or is not a RW if he's picked to play there he has a job to do. For example we've played Moussa Sissoko at right back at times - if he just thought "Fuck it, I'm not a right back, I'm not doing what's required of the role, I'll just stand around where I'm comforable" we'd be fucked.

KWP was getting fucked. Over and over again. With zero help. Lucas Moura had to go back and help him, and he was picked as a striker. It was cruel on KWP to be honest, he was hung out to dry big time.

We can’t be worse off playing Ndombele and Lo Celso in midfield. It would give us more control and we would be more dangerous on the counter

I agree, I just don't see Jose ever playing him there though, at least not while Alli is fit and firing.

BINGO!!!! you hit the nail on the head there!!!

It wasnt a game where we would have much of the ball to feet, which effectively hampers him quite a bit to be effective , out wide right isnt really his position its AM or where the lazy dane was playing last night is ideal for him, he was surrounded by people on that side who could not hold the ball and kept losing it i.e. Eriksen to his left, KWP behind him and Dier in Mid, these boys couldnt hold a piss up in a brewery at the moment. Lo celso had some tidy touches and play, but was hard for him to influence, his role was a bit like mouras , a thankless task of chase ball

None of this hampers his ability to track back and help his full back. Yes he didn't have much of the ball, that's going to happen sometimes - Is he just going to not bother like the "lazy dane" we already have if things aren't going his way? Even in the AM role he will need to drop in and put a shift in in those types of games.

Really struggling to see him as a starter in Jose's team and it's not because of last night either...Looks to me that he's going to have to wait for his chance and be a backup to Dele.
