One thing this game highlighted is that despite the excellent business we did this summer we still lack a top class No. 6. We had no control of the midfield whatsoever.

The defenders mostly did their jobs well but when a team with the quality of City are so utterly rampant there will always been opportunities that open up for them. I really rate Winks and think he can be an excellent regista against teams that concede possession to us, but when we're up against it we need a player who can both physically dominate and also play a bit. We don't really have that option in the squad.

That will be ndombele. Give him a few games first though!

To be fair what a time for Poch to send him on? “Here, Celso mate, get used to the pace of the Premier league nice and easy by going on in the 86th minute away to City with the scores at 2-2”

Lol

haha I'm not judging I'm literally stating a fact.

Get son back next week which is grouse. Need a proper DM and I think Aurier needs to be first choice if he stays. I'd almost play Dier just to help screen the defence because the space between the lines is insane at times.

This is where Gary Neville has been talking bollocks post-match.
He said VAR has to over-rule the referee on this incident. That’s not the rule though!
The most the video ref can do is say “in my opinion it’s a foul, so you might want to take another look”.
The decision HAS to be made by the referee and the referee alone.
If VAR didn’t exist it would still be down to the ref as to whether or not he considers it to be a foul.
I'm not sure that's how VAR works in the PL...

I love Ndombele and think he'll be a transformative player for us but not one who sits at the base of the diamond or CM3, shields the back line and keeps us ticking. He's a No. 8 with remarkable dribbling and forward passing who can put in a shift defensively as we saw in the second half, I don't think he'd be best used as a No6.

It’s exactly how it works in the PL

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48953873

The on field ref asks VAR for advice, VAR does not contact the ref and say “that was a foul”.
That’s why, after a goal, ref always goes to VAR via headset - “have I missed anything?”

For the Lamela “foul”, Oliver has not asked VAR for opinion on it. He has made on field decision.

Well yes obviously happy with the point lol but if we want to challenge lpool and city on today’s evidence we are atill a long way off and more worryingly poch seems to have no clue how to play agaisnt pep and klopp aside from help from VAR.

Wouldn't take today as evidence on a whole but obviously we need to find ways of avoiding all that pressure from city and pool.

The fact is with the Lamela incident the guy chose to throw himself to the ground.

Was Lamela impeding him? sure, but was it enough for a grown arsed man to fall like a sack of spuds? definitely not.

Having said that, Lamela needs to be told where the limit is on these things as he is on/beyond it a lot...

The league has never set a limit. That stuff happens every game and you rarely, rarely see a pen given. guys pull shirts, arms, bear hug players. I honestly dont know where the line is.

Guys stop tickling us with fear-mongering remarks on what Poch said and tell us what he actually came out with.

And to think he's about %60 at best of what he needs to be fitness wise in a Poch team.

He was, at times, almost a liability in his inability to get back - but he's also got that rare abiity to be able to play a forward pass under extreme fatigue.

Will only get better.

Poch: "I think they were better. They dominated the game. With the circumstances I am happy with the point here. Like I said after Villa we need to improve a lot. The squad is still unsettled. We need to wait until the transfer windows close in Europe."

There we go. wasn't too bad
