Mauricio Pochettino was asked again by the media if any transfer activity is expected at Tottenham.
He said: “We are working on a few options, we will see if we are capable to deliver it."

I think we all know the answer to that....

Wouldn’t surprise me, but then on the subject of his future he again seems to deviate. Although of course I’m aware that the press can twist things to whatever slant they wish that particular week.

Personally, I thought even his interview before the United game with whatshisface from Sky Sports, I thought he was reluctant to commit, and only when really pushed on whether he would be with us in the new stadium, did he tentatively say "yes" because he literally couldn't say anything else. But it didn't fill me with confidence, but that is just my personal take. He talks about the project and we have a great future with OR without him and his staff. I do genuinely think he feels he has taken us as far as he can. Poch must feel fucked off that he is constantly falling short with this group of players. If Eriksen and Toby leave in the summer, without some very very smart and ambitious recruitment (how likely is that?), I don't see how we can possibly be stronger going into next season. We still have a huge hole to fill in CM where we once had a peak Dembele.

People are making a big song and dance about the new stadium, I really don't think it will be the game changer some seem to think. It hasn't been for Arsenal. I just think a lot of Spurs fans are in for a huge reality check in the summer.

I thought the wheels would come off last summer due to lack of investment. We'd miss out on the CL and Poch would subsequently walk. The way things are going we could be in for a really really tough four months. Still stuck at Wembley, Kane injured and no depth behind him. Could be out of both domestic cups by next week. I don't give us much of a chance versus Dortmund without Alli and Kane fit and firing. We have a fight on to finish top 4.

Our points tally I don't think truly reflects how average we have been in a lot of performances this season, we are 4 points better off just from the last minute goals against Fulham and Burnley for a start. Fine margins I know, but it shows that in many games we are really scraping through, rather than it being totally convincing. The thrashings v Everton and Bournemouth are the exceptions amongst a lot of average performances. Our season is on a knife edge and it didn't need to be if only we'd signed some players last summer.t.

Levy is the Yodel of delivering in the transfer window. If, if your package does show up it’s a N’Koudou left behind the bins in the rain or thrown over the garden fence and ‘signed for’

So here's a question...

Do you think Poch has 'overachieved' with the players he has (past and present)?

This isn't a dig at Poch, just curious about people's perceptions and expectations.

FWIW, I think Spurs as a club have 'overachieved' given our resources compared to our rivals, but I'm not sure Poch has 'overachieved' given the talented group of players he has/had at his disposal.

I mean, it's not like he's taken Newcastle's squad to 2nd and 3rd place finishes.

Again, not a dig at Poch he's done a good job and we're a better club for it.

Thoughts?

IF he genuinely believes there's no one out there to add bodies to our squad, and/or we don't need new bodies he's kidding himself and needs a new scout network.

He may think we have enough quality in the youth to fill in but that would only work for 1 position at a time and likely in games where they're not going to be relied upon.
He may also have missed the fact that a lot of our injury problems could be avoided with more players to use. Little doubt Dele and Sissoko are pulling muscles due to excessive game time.
Kanes ankles seem to be a weak spot. There's not much you can do about it, but playing less than 3 times a week for 9 months then having a world cup before starting again won't help.

Chelsea may have been better than us last night true, but they didn't have a shot on target until they scored a freak opener. With a proper attack last night rather a carthorse, a leggy great dane and a 1 in 5 Lamela up front, we might have got that freak goal ourselves.

I fucking hate Yodel.
I stop using any online retailers as soon as they send something with them.

that’s a really really good point, and not something i’ve really considered.

overachieved in terms of spending - yes.

but in terms of talented we players have - no. we had what, 9, players in the world cup semis? woth the talent we’ve got, we should definitely be winning something by now.

Haha, funnily enough, that's actually where I disagree with you :)

Despite our talented squad, I still think it's ridiculously difficult to win anything when you're going up against financially doped clubs.

Plus, in recent times we've had stadium problems and injuries to contend with.

Doesn't mean we can't knuckle down and continue to build a foundation for decades to come. All we can do is our best and see where it takes us.

I get where you’re coming from. But I don’t think it’s difficult to argue we could have won at least an FA cup, League cup, or even Europa league (slightly unfair given we’ve been in champs league most of the time).

the real issue is poch only really sees champs league and premier league as worth winning.

But we are not winning the league or CL and can't get past semi-finals so that doesn't leave much apart from the Johnston's pain trophy.

It’s an interesting question.

Poch certainly deserves a huge amount of praise for bringing the team together and helping develop players into reaching their potential.

But player for player are we punching above our weight? Arguably not.

But we should never dismiss how important Poch’s contribution is.

The players clearly love him and it is possible some may have left if he wasn’t here.

I remember reading stories of Jan being unhappy pre-Poch.

So on that basis he has overachieved.

Yep, just like CL was meant to be a game changer. 3 years in it and has it helped bring anyone in??

I would say the extra revenue has helped.
To be fair, it probably would do if Levy would let them in.

In seriousness, it's certainly helped retain what we have.
Very likely the reason why Kane/Alli etc have stuck around signed new deals though.
I get that and agree, but a lot believed that it would lead to is being attractive to big players. Not the case as evidenced with Rabiot, Morata etc.
It’s about wages (for a lot of players)
