'Will of the Chairmen'
Will of the managers.

Managers have complained that signing players once the season is under way causes disruption to their squads and preparations.
'Will of the Chairmen'
If the clubs came together to decide they wanted to shut the transfer window for incomings early*, then they can also collectively hold resolve in not allowing any premier league player to depart after it shuts (forcing the rest of europe’s hand) - though it only takes one selfish club to fuck it up.
*cant remember if it was unanimous or not though
I think it's a good thing that the window closes in line with the season starting. For a long time the general distraction of transfers being done whilst players are meant to be focused on football has been detrimental.
Yes it's been a tough window for us with players at the WC etc. etc. but overall i think this is a positive change and whilst international tournaments will get in the way every other year, the pros outweigh the cons for me.
I'd be all for it if we could end the selling period at the same time.
As it is, it puts us at a serious disadvantage as we can't buy before we sell, and we can't sell because most of the buying clubs have a lot longer to make their move.
I think the World Cup has added to that problem certainly, but it does feel at the moment as if this half and half position is a major contribution to the fact that we're going to a season as badly prepared as I can remember (in line with our ambitions anyway).
