I don't get this Scotland played well thing. Their attack looked like it created chances at times but so has every other opposition in the group against our awful defence. It's hardly an achievement.

They were poor in both defensive and final thirds unable to create chances and keep us from scoring and the team was knackered after 75 minutes. How's that playing well? Imagine if that was us on the end of that result last night. We'd of been furious.

I felt sorry for Scotland as they outplayed England until the second goal. That however is not saying much since the game was so poor.

However what joy to see Rose and Walker as the two most dynamic players on the pitch. OK not a great opposition but these two are as good a pair of full backs I have ever seen in the league. If the gold standard worldwide would be Maldini and Cafu, the silver Carlos Alberto and Roberto Carlos I struggle to think other attacking full backs better than these two.

I love their pace, their energy and believe they are both improving all the time. OK the players I mentioned were legends of the game but all had very long careers and got better with age so I hope Rose and Walker will also

stones set the tone of the defensive display with his awful attempts to play out from the back;the first three times he tried he lost the ball and put the scots on the front foot
against bayer lloris with his awful ball distribution put the spurs defence on the backfoot
both of these players set the tone of most of the defending which was to make the defences unsure and inept

I really like Lallana, back to the player was at Southampton. Klopp has done well to bring him back from the brink to be fair, would have liked him at Spurs.

Stones is shocking. I think he believes the hype about himself so much that he plays out from the back just to prove he's 'better'. Anyone who is playing for the good of the team would surely change approach if they've lost the ball in key areas on previous attempts. But he just keeps on doing it. Its a recipe for disaster and other teams will press him in the middle of the pitch to steal possession and counter us.

I'm still struggling trying to work out if John Stones is actually any good or not. When I listen to pundits, ex-players, managers, various commentators and when I read the papers, everyone seems to rate him very highly and reckon he's the real deal. But then I watch him and judge him against, say, Toby or perhaps Rio Ferdinand when he was at the top of his game, and the comparison is laughable.

It's the same with Southgate. Is he any good? Both his (limited) club management record and when he was in charge of the U21s, are decidedly average. In fact I appear to lose all rational thinking when it comes to drawing conclusions on England.

That's what years of prolonged apathy towards the national team does to you I suppose.

That was a game of awful quality, England have gone backwards tactically under Southgate, reverting to a 4231, with Dier and Henderson as very stolid cm2, allowing what should be a much more talented group to be partially outplayed by a very poor quality Scotland for big chunk of the game.

People are bemoaning Stones, but he needed people to show for the ball, so England could play out, so often he looks up and everyone was hiding because they knew Scotland were pressing,

I really think you are over rating Rose and Walker. This is a game against a bunch of lower PL and championship (and lower in some cases) footballers. Both have good energy, but their quality of end product is invariably very ordinary or poor, especially when they actually come up against decent quality opposition in meaningful games (which is rare at international level).

Their stock is possibly made a little higher by the lack of quality fb's in their prime in the PL right now but I don't thinK they are close to the quality bracket players you are comparing them to.

To be fair to John Stones, Rio Ferdinand was shockingly inconsistent and tried to overplay when he was first on the scene.

Not saying Stones is gonna be as good as Rio was at his peak but just sayin' y'know.

Would t play him at moment mind though although for England we had likes of Tony Adams, Gareth Southgate and some other **** who's name escapes me so we didn't have to over rely on him.

There's no money in international football, that's why it's dying. That and too many meaningless games. But sad reflection? No, I don't think so. International football has been shit for a long, long time. Get rid of it entirely and concentrate on the Prem.

I've said it before but if it were me in charge i'd get rid of internationals during the domestic season, then have an international season and revamp the euro's and world cup around it.

Maybe have the friendly matches with the minnow nations like San Marino etc as an early knockout stage or keep them friendlies as they are but have them count for something (other than the messed up ranking points.)

Southgate seems to have handled Kanes injury pretty well. Hopefully Walker and Rose will get a rest against Spain as well.

Southgate seems to be odds on favourite to get the job now. I'm not convinced by him at all yet. He speaks well, and he made the big decision to drop Rooney, but I just don't see him as either a tactical mastermind, or an inspirational leader. Then again, may-be he's what we need...someone who can keep things simple.
