You raise an interesting point (indirectly). We hear quite a lot about our state of the art training facilities. I wonder whether some clubs, especially over stocked clubs, will see that as an opportunity for their young players to be trained in a high class facility??

Not arguing this with you but surely the coaching is more important than the facilities.

I sometimes wonder when I read posts on this website whether people are still unaware of the new television rights deal. The way people talk about our transfer dealings is as if NOTHING has changed in the last 18 months. Never forget that we earned 90 million pounds in television revenue this past season, up from 57 million pounds the season before. That's proven to be a complete game changer for the entire league (how else could Everton and West Ham engage in 30 million pound net spends), so anyone talking about how the club can't engage in any spending needs to explain where exactly that excess television income is going for the next 4 years.

If ALL of this money is designated for the stadium, then that needs to be made abundantly clear to supporters. My guess is once the newest financial statement is published and we likely show a profit rivaling Everton's (who went from a 1 million pound profit to a 27+ million pound profit), there will be more calls for clarity from the club assuming limited transfer spending.

My personal opinion is that we should look to sign a few quality, soon out of contract players in Moreno and Konoplyanka and supplement them with one big money signing. Cabaye, Scheniderlin, Lacazette, Bony, Benteke, etc. One of these plus the aforementioned two would see really push for top 3 and with a chance at a trophy or two. Sure, it'd mean we engaged in a net spend (after sales of players like Naughton/Lennon/Capoue) of 15-20 million pounds, but that's a minimal risk well worth taking when you consider the equity and advertising upside of making the Champions League in this era. There's also the very real possibility that the likes of Lloris and others of elite quality will be sold for huge profit next summer, so in some ways, I'd rather we spend that money now to strengthen the current squad, then spend it after the fact like we did with Modric and Bale.

I'm certainly on board with your logic of bringing in a midfielder on loan this month if Pochettino doesn't feel that Dembele/Capoue/Stambouli are up to the job of filling in for Bentaleb and Mason. (Albeit I should say that if that IS the case I want the person who signed Stambouli sacked forthwith: what's the point in spending £5m on a midfielder in his mid-20s if we don't think he's good enough to step up when we need reinforcements?) But unless Rabiot is hot shit indeed then I'm skeptical as to whether a 19 year old who's never played in England before and has less than 50 senior appearances under his belt will be the short-term sticking plaster that a January-to-May loan is aiming for. I'd much prefer a more experienced player to come in if short-term cover for Mason/Bentaleb is what we're aiming for [and as I've already mentioned, what on earth were we playing at if Stambouli isn't that player?]; surely if we had designs on signing Rabiot it would be for the longer term, and a loan this month seems to be at odds with that approach.

Makes no sense at all to me, but then again, this is Tottenham we are talking about here...!

I do understand why you're concerned about his lack of experience, but you are sceptical about whether he's good enough to fill in for Mason and Bentaleb who this time last year were as good as unknown by most and had almost no PL experience themselves They both settled in almost immediately, albeit at different times. Now they're our best CM partnership, could Rabiot not settle in as well as Mason and Bentaleb? If not then after 6 months he goes back to PSG and we look for a long term option in the summer, if he does we look to sign him on a perm. That's the beauty of a loan

Sorry I just found the rating. I must have accidentally touched the dislike but it wasn't deliberately done. Look at my past ratings given

I'm not thrilled with the news about Rabiot myself (based on us taking him on loan rather than a permanent deal - just don't see how us loaning a youngster from another club makes any kind of sense), but it's a total douchebag move for @marcolombardSA to rate the info in [Update 23] with a Dislike rating. Chump chumpety chump chump chump.
The fact that I did it accidentally then you go and call me a chump is pretty annoying.

Ideally there is no argument whatsoever against what you're saying. What you say here is perfect logic, and consequently it leads to wonder why the club would pursue this option instead.

I think it's based on several factors. These include 1) compatibility with Poch's detailed system (suspect Mitchell and Poch may have been following him for awhile together), 2) wage cost in context of high possibility of not moving on other players on high wages, 3) I'd suspect PSG has been convinced to pay a significant portion of his wages if it's true considering we're offering a premier (excuse pun) loan option in a top league and have no option to buy, and 4) the club feel they may have a chance at convincing him to push to make the move permanent if he enjoys his stay.

All things considered, I don't think this scenario is as simple as your average bringing in an inexperienced 19 yo in attempt to push us on. I suspect it's been a heavily calculated option.

And as a disclaimer, I would prefer other options so this isn't subjective wishful pandering here. I just think it makes a great deal more practical sense than people are giving it credit for here.

Any more word on our supposed interest in Mitrovic? I know there was ITK on our interest a few weeks back but we were going up against Juve but I haven't seen anything fresh. I must say I would be very happy if we brought him in, has a lot of potential, is young, tough and wouldn't cost the world. I think he would compliment Kane well whilst not obstructing his development.

The Goat: "A player from Tomsk? A shop selling fine foods?"

Alright you Brits, what is this? I procure my "fine foods" from Walmart.

Just looked it up and Tomsk is a city in Siberia.

Haha yeah Google told me that, but what I don't know is "fine foods" stores in the UK. I don't think we even have "fine foods stores" here, just indie places that sell wine too. Uncivilized barbarians, we colonists.
