I personally don't think Richards would be a bad move, Walker needs some pressure for his place and I think he knows that Naughton doesn't provide it
I think Richards is well worth the punt. Could explain the Shawcross ITK. Rarely injured guy as back up and could possibly signal Naughton's transfer as well. I like Fredricks.
Richards, Shawcross and De Vrij in and Dawson, Kaboul, Vlad and Naughton out?

We can only sell if somebody wants to buy. If Kaboul is so unfit he can't be relied on for us then he's worth nothing.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't quite get why ITK-related threads are treated differently from all the other threads which seem to wander happily wherever the contributors wish to take them, in the manner of normal conversation, but being new I'll try to stick to the rules out of respect to the people who put the forum together, and on the basis that those who've been around longer understand these things better.

Probably because it is often far and away the busiest thread on the forum. Sometimes, when there is good info coming through, it can go to close to 80+ pages in a day and that's not even on a transfer deadline day !

ITK is also an addiction and some info doesn't make it to the read only section so people often go through every page from the start trying to catch up, when they have been busy doing lesser important things like work.

Even with heavy moderation that can be a hard act at times !

We have had occasions in the past where a couple of posters are arguing about something non ITK and a piece of tidy ITK posted in the thread is missed.

I think its a weird system too. If the biggest problem is everyone being in one thread, then why not address that.

If you want only the ITK to be discussed, instead of it being a read only post, then why not have a thread for each piece of ITK, and allow subsequent discussion? Then each piece can be discussed individually, and would stop everyone congregating in one thread and filling it with bollocks.

By the very nature of having a 'discussion' thread, its gonna drift off topic.

Anyway, im sure there is a reason why things are done in a certain way, and it none of my business how things are organised.

Not a criticism btw, just a thought on a quiet sunday. I love everything about the site and am very grateful it exists.

We had to play our best defensive midfielder as an emergency centre back a few times last season, if we go into the new season with less 'proper' centre backs then it's just gonna happen again. I'd prefer to have kaboul, Vertonghen, Vlad, another starter and Richards as back up and RB cover. God knows we get injuries back there

I know he's old(ish) and probably expensive but I'd like us to try for someone like luisao from Benfica.

Looked a real handful from set pieces, as well as being a solid defender, doesn't look like he relies on pace so won't get old overnight.

Mertesacker is a great example of even someone with limited ability, being organised and frankly a big bastard, being a success in the prem. see Curtis Davies for a similar story. A defender like that next to Vertonghen would be ideal if you ask me.

TBH it's all been tried before. Player threads and a heavily modded ITK thread is the best of a whole load of options that have been discussed or tried.

Near deadline day this place is bat-do mental. The system is a pain sometimes but it does work (that, and a healthy fear of the contents of A&C's bottom draw)

It's ok, I'm starting to worry about our defence, midfield and attack situation :).

It will be criminal if we start the season without fixing the centre back issue. I'm not so much concerned about central midfield at the moment as we still have lots of players to choose from. Adding Schneiderlin or someone like Clasie would be a bonus. Hopefully Ade will be fit to start to season. We've Chadli to come back into the side but I still feel we need a game changer on the left in the ilk of Lamela.

Have to accept that it's not gonna be properly sorted until the end of next summer, it just isn't.

But it will get sorted, especially due to our manager being a former defender.

Just one of those things.

If we're desperate something might happen in Jan, but will have to be crisis point for levy to spend on a top CB then and this summer won't do the full job.

I suspect poch will want to bring in a RB next summer as well as Walker is gonna freak him right out.:D

This window won't do the job needed.

Why do you keep saying this shit about Walker? Pochettino's meant to be a manager who improves players, so why is that not the same for Walker?

Mate I agree with you on a lot of things, but Walker isn't one of them :)
