That's not even close to being true Bear. I watch a lot of Millwall and go to the den regularly - Smith was rested during part of their FA cup run, and towards the end of the season Jackett insisted on trying various different teams and formations in his desperation to avoid the drop (including a hilarious 3-4-3 attempt at home to Warford I think it was he had to completely change at half time), and most Millwall fans were nonplussed whenever smith didn't play, as the consensus was that he was clearly too good for them. He had two poor games all season.
The same goes for Kane, who pretty much tore up the championship when Jackett finally paired him up front with Henderson (Kane played off him as a number 10) and he ended up with a 1-in-2 goal ratio.
I can tell you for a fact that Millwall fans would bite our arms off to have either of them back but know they should be playing PL football.
Smith is already better than Walker technically, but lacks his physical prowess and still needs to erase a few mistakes. He'd be good for a Palace-type side. People writing off Kane are mental - he's 19 FFS! Just a kid!
Valuation as we only paid 6 for him and he somewhat flopped, add this to the fact that he comes across as lazy and arrogant and not many clubs will want to pay much for him so we will have to let him go cheap to get rid. Also wages form part of the package and he will always want high wages. On Defoe I feel English players always go for more money (bent, carroll, henderson for example) than there probably worth, and Defoe will get goals so can see teams like stoke, Everton, fulham, paying up to eight or ten mill to get someone like Defoe... Just speculating though.
Don't think rose is even bench worthy due to his inability to defend. Bemused at how many ppl want him as our left back next season! Can't ppl remember the last time he played left back for us?! Who will we buy at left back tho? Would like Luke shaw but can't think of anyone else that would be available for a decent price..?

Cant see us selling both LB's this summer unless we have a decent player lined up.
I could understand both going IF we do, as Vertonghen can back up for example. Not sure LB is top of our priority list just yet though and our irons are firmly in other fires.
But there have been rumours of there being plenty of offers for our players, so who knows.

Yes lets judge him on a couple of games last season when he was pitched in when undoubtedly very rusty after sitting on the bench all season.
Remember when Assou Ekotto initially struggled, then improved?
Remember when Kaboul had a lot to learn, went away, came back, fans had misgivings but he had grown up and become a much more consistent, and very good centreback?
Remember when it wasn't happening for Bale for whatever reason, until a couple of seasons in it clicked?
That's a pretty lazy argument based on very little evidence. He has done as much as he can do on loan to deserve a chance to compete at left back and with more games under his belt now at left back I'd be staggered if he hasn't improved. Luke Shaw has a lot to learn still himself.

Seems like lots of people are writing off the current squad. We have a lot of quality and some players who, in an ideal world, would be replaced but this is not ever going to happen.
As far as it goes, we have
Lloris with Friedel as backup - happy with that
Vertongen and Kaboul as first choice with Caulker and Dawson as backup - again, can't see much wrong
BAE and Rose - OK, so defending is a bit of a weakness with both but they are both "Spurs players" in my eyes and give us something going forward - so we have to wince when they are called upon to defend but, that's life!
Walker and Naughton - see above!
Sandro, Dembele and Parker/Thudd (one of which will probably go if Paulinho comes in) - no probs there
Lennon, Holtby, Bale, Carroll, Siggy - a good bunch to pick from and I would like to think there is an addition coming in there.
Defoe, Ade, Dempsey plus one or more from Villa, Damiao, Bernard, A N Other plus some promising youth.
We have a good squad. We can't have 22 first team players who all expect to play every game. There are some positions where some investment could help but it is just a case of slotting one in where another goes out. The fear is that we sell (e.g. BAE and Rose) before the replacements are found and tested - Fryers is apparently not ready and I would prefer someone in each position who knows the team, tactics and league alongside any new player coming in.

I'm a relaxed yoke these days when it comes to this thread going off topic, fuck it, it's quiet, there's not much ITK about, so yeah, it's going to happen. But appraisals of the current squad? I mean, Spurs Chat is full of that shit. It's one of the main reasons for its existence. How do you all think Spurs Chat feels about this neglect? Yes, that's right. Forums have feelings.
