Oi rebrab, I was just reading back old Pms and found some from 2009 about VdV, shows how far our interest actually went back to be honest, we called it very early ;)

Kind of.

Told Carroll is the big target, he's the one we really want.

Llorente is very unlikely, so many factors going against it. Firstly we are very sceptical. He doesn't have much confidence at all, and fear that he is too weak to cope in the premier league. In Bilbao he isn't even THAT highly rated and has struggled with the fans at times. However there are no other decent strikers in the Basque country apart from Munian who is only just 18 and so selling cheaply just won't happen.

Barrios will be expensive but is our other trump card, we think he would be a big success.

Cardozo has been on the radar a long time and has scored 6 in 9 this season and once again looks like he could do it in the premier league. Any asking price between £10-£15 million could see us making a bid.

Just bumping this so the mods don't miss it.

Ah well thats the internet for you I guess!

But still, £7m for Keane would be another Levy masterstroke, isn't that what we paid for him back in 2002?

Indeed, and Levy is the man who persuaded Gibson and Southgate to part with £6.25m for Mido. (Mind you, Heerenveen got them to cough up twice that for Alves .)

I'm pretty sure I remember him being mentioned as a target for Jol when he went to HSV.

is carrol the pinacle of our ambition for a cF though? does his desire and power out weigh the lack of sublety in his game. I can't see him playing quick one-twos or offering a dummy like Pav does? run behind like defoe or work space for a snap shot like him? areilly much different/better than crouch?
i'm just not sure if we can get a cf that can do it all better than all of our options? and if we can't i'm not sure we should run an entire transfer window and blow a budget on one that isn't significantly better. I don't think Carrol is significantly better,I think pace and magic are missing from our list of nessessities

I'd forgotten that in all honesty!

Just goes to show, Levy is more than a business man, he knows his football too, premiership and abroad.

It actually kind of suggests that it was not just a late call for Harry, but perhaps Levy asked about it early in the window and when it turned up they called us first  who knows!

Wasn't he one of the players under discussion when we sent that delegation to Real in summer '09?

Til what Rax?

Why, the one month anniversary of the "Daily" discussion thread of course!

I've already bought cake and balloons and everything!

Only gotta wait til the Charlton game mate, til the HurriKane shows himself to be our new superstar striker
I hope he plays. He'll score seven, get Mrs VdV pregnant with triplets, and cure swine flu.

I know it's only a Youtube video and I know that most of it is from the championship but you cant say Carroll doesnt have the raw ingredients to be a top player. He definately isnt slow either.

Someone did say that we had inquired about him early in the summer but the quoted price was too much.

Storts' update makes me sad! Barrios could be good but he reminds me of Defoe a bit. If we have any doubts about Llorente we should have some extreme doubts about Cardozo, who appears to just be a crap Darren Bent, just tall instead of quick!

And, more impressively, Ledley's knee :)

Storts latest ITK very interesting, particularly the Llorente stuff. It's the part of scouting that geniuses like Dan Ashcroft seem to take no account of; how will a guy operate outside of his comfort zone? What is he like at facing challenges and dealing with unfamiliarity? All these sorts of things are equally, if not more important than a player's technical ability.

I think Keane to Brum would be a good move for all involved.

Keane might not be up to our standard any more, but as he showed on his loan to Celtic he still has quality. I think he would shine in a Birmingham team that would probably use him to link most of their attacks.

We get him off our wage bill and create space for an upgrade and Keane gets (hopefully) to play regular first team football again, not to mention living in an area he has done before (west Midlands)

Off topic, i bet you (and no it wasn't me!) that Joanna Yeates was killed by her boyfriend, and his alibi is covering for him. Just seems so obvious to me!

Anyway COYS
