Interesting to see many writing off Liverpool.

I think they are still very strong and will get 2nd.

Of course they are, last season was a perfect storm but they would win the title nearly every year with that points total.

Think we can catch them if they have anything like the disruption a club would normally have, but I think we'll be 3rd.

I think Chelsea are the biggest unknown.

I’ve no idea how derby played last season, all I can remember was hearing their fans say Lampard played pretty boring football and they weren’t very expressive. I wonder if he will set up the same, defensive and try and win games one nil. After all their attack isn’t awesome and they do have some solid midfield players. A lot will depend on how much they get out of pulisic and how quickly the two young English lads get back to full fitness.

I think the top 3 is fairly obviously going to be the same 3 again. I reckon e'll be 3rd but still some way off winning the title. Could even be in with a chance of sneaking 2nd depending on how things pan out.

City - It's hard to really look past them as champions. They just have so much quality and more importantly depth. I know Liverpool ran them close last year but I thought LIverpool got very lucky with some results and not getting too many injuries.

Liverpool - Starting 11 is arguably title-worthy but they lack a lot of depth IMO. Got lucky last season with injuries, otherwise I think they'd have been further behind City. They've also got a similar situation to us last season where they've got a few of their first 11 who've not had much of a break so hopefully that will hinder them.

Us - we've improved our squad a lot since last season and now have multiple options in terms of starting lineup and formation which we didn't have last year. We've finally got the ability to bring some gamechangers off the bench which we haven't really had under Poch so far. Will be interesting to see how we get on. If everyone is fully commited and the new signings click, we should finish 3rd comfortably, maybe even 2nd if Liverpool get big injuries to key players.

The next 3 is quite hard because there's quite a lot of unknowns, especially with Chelsea.

Arsenal - THey've also improved, but still have key weaknesses in key areas. They'll be vulnerable at the back even with Holding coming back and Sideshow Bob doing whatever it is he's supposed to do. Ultimately I think they'll be better, but still don't have the right dressing room mentality to be properly competitive IMO. As long as we don't have a meltdown, I still think we'll finish ahead of them.

Chelsea - I've gone for them 5th because I think Lampard is massively overrated. Despite all the hype, clinching a playoff spot with Derby was only really a par finish and not some miraculous achievement like it was made out to be, especially when you consider that he was able to bring several "ringers" into the team through his connections. That said, he's going ot have authority in the dressing room as a bit of a club legend, especially with the younger players that they'll be relying on. A lot of people, myself included, have been saying Chelsea need a clearout and to rebuild the team based on some of their proper young prospects, so ironically this ban etc. could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for them as long as the young players are able to perform at the highest level. THey're going ot be a relatively unproven side, but with a lot of potential. It all comes down to whether or not Lampard can pull it off or whether he'll be another OGS type who hides behind a mask of "club legendness" without actually doing much to write home about.

Man Utd - I can't see them doing well at all. They've got Maguire in who is a good signing, especially when you compare him to the dross they had in Phil Jones and Smalling etc. but even still he's hardly a VVD style guy who's going to absolutely revolutionise the entire defense overnight.Same goes for Wan BIssaka, he's an upgrade but not someone who's going to be a title winner overnight. He's also very unproven so who knows .I think he'll do well, but not well enough to make the difference that's needed. OGS wanted to clear out the deadwood and those who don't want to be there, btu they've still got Pogba who was uninterested last season and so likely to be even more sulky now he's stuck there for another year. Fundamentally I just don't think OGS is a good manager. He was exactly what they needed to tide them over after mourinho when the season was basically gone anyway and they just needed to cheer everyone up, but giving him the job permanently was a massive cockup. I think he'll limp on until past Christmas but only because the board will be worried about the fan reaction to sacking him. Eventually they'll bight the bullet, bring someone in till the end of the season, then they'll go after Poch hard in the summer.

My two cents anyway. Then again, what the fuck do I know about it all :D

This is based on absolutely nothing of note, but I just have a nagging feeling Liverpool will be no where near as consistent this year and drop off and it will be us challenging City for the title, but ultimately falling short.

Having said that, I now fully expect us to finish 7th and for Liverpool to win the fucking league

I think 3rd is a safe bet (I hope) I agree with most that City are to strong in depth and will win comfortably. I do think Liverpool will get 2nd again as they have a really settled squad now. I don't fancy Arsenal or Chelsea's chances probably not even making top 4. I think Utd will improve on last year and get into 4th. I think sides like Everton and Leicester could surprise a few people especially Everton and both will take points off the established top six and will make it interesting.
I think we are probably still a couple of players short to make a real impression on the top 2 especially in defence which is where I think we could be found out this season. But I still think we will make 3rd although quite a few points off City.

...

Chelsea - I've gone for them 5th...
At the risk of stating the bleedin' obvious, the top 3 last year were Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea. So if the top 3 are going to be the same, then we aren't going to finish 3rd and Chelsea aren't going to finish 5th.

I know Kompany missed loads of games for them but I still think they'll miss his leadership and influence around their squad.

Ageuro a year older, Sane injured long term. Yes they've an insane squad but a few more injuries could still take them down a notch.

KDB is injury prone big time.

3rd, but we'll close the gap a bit on City and Liverpool.

Eriksen and Alderweireld negotiating to leave on a free in January could be disruptive and cause us to drop off though.

My heart says top three, however, thinking with my head I can see us having an up and down season, we’ve added some great players, but we can’t underestimate how long it sometimes takes players to settle into Poch’s system and training regimes. NDombele looks like an amazing buy, but he didn’t look fit in preseason and seemed to be struggling to adapt to Poch’s intense coaching methods. He might take a month or so to really start firing on all cylinders. Ditto Lo Celso and Sess.

The plus point is we haven’t lost anyone key to our system, yet. If Poch can motivate Eriksen to perform we might come out firing at the start of the season. We got some good results over the summer, and played nice stuff at times. KWP at right back worries me, especially in the upcoming game against City. But saying that Aurier doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence either.

We will definitely challenge for the top four, and comfortably be in the top six imo. The top four places are contested by six highly competitive teams, so it can’t be taken for granted. Wolves, Leicester and Everton will be snapping at the big clubs heels this year too. It should make it very exciting and interesting and no doubt nerve wracking towards the end of the season.

Why up and down? We havnt sold anyone ( ? it stays that way) added some real quality.

Heck even without the three we've bought in we'd still finish third I reckon as we've had a much needed rest and actually will benefit from true home advantage for a full season!

We can afford to let the new players adjust and still finish high, but if they hit the ground running we could shock a lot of people.

Yeah I misspoke as I pointed out in another post. I would edit my post but apparently that's not allowed now or something

We don’t operate in a vacuum. Teams around us have undoubtedly improved. And we haven’t sold anyone, yet.

We got top four by the skin of our teeth last year. Am I confident we’ll be challenging with the other top six teams? Yes. That doesn’t mean we can’t be realistic about how competitive that top group is now.

Yes but what you're doing is over looking that some teams required much more improving to begin with - like Arsenal, United etc

We'd the better squad to begin with. And we've added serious quality as well.
