Michael Owen really is awful. He is without doubt the thickest pundit out there and I include Jamie Redknapp and Robbie Savage in that. It’s shocking to be honest. I always had him down as an intelligent footballer when he was playing so it’s very strange that he comes out with complete nonsense.

“It transcends through the club”

Lol. The guy is trying to have an edge after years of being called boring. It’s embarassing really

You can find those kind of supporters in every club but we’re an easy target. Hargreaves unsurprisingly talks a lot more sense

Winning mentality comes from the fans? What a div!:ROFLMAO:

Honestly, hand on heart. There's not a single word in the entire 4 minutes of that clip that I don't personally agree with.

Absolutely on the mark.

Fair enough.

I really fail to see how it can begin with the fans though.
To take it literally, surely that means fans of any club can inspire their team to trophies? That makes zero sense.

As regarding us. Well, we’re in a unique position of sort of challenging but not spending enough to actually challenge and anytime in the past 25 years when we’ve had a chance to do something, we’ve lost. Not only is it a bit strange to suggest our fans start suddenly believing we are going to win everything and act as such, but you can completely understand why a section of fans automatically think we will balls it up when it matters.

As always, everyone is overreacting, the media a fair amount on here etc
We were never in this title race imo, that’s based on the fixtures left before yesterday. We were not going to win at Chelsea, Liverpool and City. Then win the rest of our games. It’s a case of being talked up, whilst facing a virtually impossible task, only to be knocked down again when we fail.

Teams win trophies. Winning mentality doesn’t apply to fans imo. It really doesn’t make any sense to me. How can you be a successful fan? I’ve never got it.

Hargreaves summed it up in about twenty seconds. Perfectly

It can start with the fans though. It’s a cliche I know, but the “12th man” makes a difference. We don’t always seem to have that. We get very nervy in the stadium, hopefully the new stadium will help.

Now I fucking detest Liverpool, really fucking detest them, but their fans always believe, and take that belief with them into Anfield

I've been saying that for years, no more so when people hark on about this Spursy crap and keep calling us legends every time we lose a match, for example the other day someone referenced the fact that we've suffered some adverse 'Spursy' results over the years and somehow linking that to the Dortmund return leg saying oh we can't get carried away because of Lasagnegate.

I mean what the fek is that all about lol

This is exactly the kind of mentality shift that Poch constantly alludes to, I'll probably get negged for this but whatever - Liverpool fans as annoying as they are get behind their team and expect to win, which is why Anfield is a fortress and there's been times in big games for example where the fans have been nervous and IMO that negativity feeds into the players.

Sorry Owen is 100% correct on this one, if he can see it as an outsider then do should you.

Ray, within that response, you've literally stated what Owen & Hargreaves stated.

We've not bottled anything, we were never really in the title race (because we're not as good as Liverpool or Man City).

Owen did not say we should suddenly start believing we're going to win everything. He said we should stop believing we're going to blow everything. Totally different things, buddy.

And I don't see how you don't understand how the supporters can make the difference to inspire the team to win things, either.

If there's murmours of negativity throughout the stadium, it does filter down into the pitch. The players hear, feel & sense the concern/negativity, and it casts doubt into their play because they're obviously not wanting the supporters to be unhappy.

Switch that to an ultra-supportive, loud as fuck, song filled stadium, with "Oh When The Spurs" reverberating around the entire arena, and see the difference in what happens on the pitch.

Tell me a single occasion where the second scenario is what happened, and a player was being interviewed after the game, and he didn't say "the crowd were fantastic. Hearing them behind us like that really have us the energy & belief to play how we did".

He makes a fair point for once
You only have to come on here on any given day prior to any prem or cup game and the same posters week in week out telling all that this game will be so tough, cant see a win , Liverpool are so much better than us etc etc
And you can feel it at the games a nervous crowd can transmit to the players it adds pressure all the moans and groans and silence will pass on to the team.
How many times do you hear keep the opposition fans quiet.

You won’t get any negs from me, I said pretty much the same about the scouse fans, fucking detest them, but they believe. We don’t, plain and simple. We need to shift that

...and as a side note to that, we should hope that Man Utd win today. We need to stop looking behind us because we lost a game, we need to believe that we are going to beat the chavs and the boys from south of the river and try to stay as close to the top 2.

Michael Owen said 100% what I've been saying for weeks. Majority of posts on here after the Dortmund win were about games we blew it in. He is bang on the money. If you don't agree with him, then you're likely one of the ones he's on about.

Poch has mentioned it at least three or four times this season. He knows there is a problem/issue/situation with the fans and especially at Wembley. Its not a surprise though is it, this season's stadium fiasco really has hit the fans hard (and not especially acknowledged by the club, which has made it worse) and that in itself issn really mentioned by the media. Obviously us match going fans are the last people thought of nowadays, except when we are needed of course. Then its our fault/problem etc

Anfield is a fortress because they have the likes of salah and vvd. It has nothing to do with the fans. The palace fans make plenty of noise but it's hardly a fortress.

The spursy and bottler shit originates from the media. I don't know any spurs fans who actually use those terms and it's boring how the narrative is its now the fans fault in some way. It gets rolled out along with the new line about how we should be patient despite the fact we haven't won a major trophy in nearly 30 years.
