Going on other fans’ forums isn’t something I’d do personally as I have no interest, but if every forum nominated one person via a poll titled ‘who could represent their club the best out of thousands of other losers’ then I’d be happy for Spurs to be represented by that v̶i̶r̶g̶i̶n̶ person.
I’m happy for people who are knowledgeable about Spurs putting people right in a friendly manner on other boards, without anger or arrogance.
That's pretty much what I do on Newcastle-Online .
I'm not totally sure why I first went on there (I've been posting there for over a decade) but I do have a lot of connections with Newcastle. It's a great site with a really good Chat section too. I moved to the US ten years ago and do a lot of posting on their NFL/US Politics/MLB etc threads.
I think there are a couple of reasons why people hang out on other teams' boards as well as on here. Apart from the obvious trolling and opportunistic schadenfreude, it can just be refreshing to hear other viewpoints. I think there's value in having a savvy representative with other fans to - like you say - defend Spurs, point out where people are wrong about us in a respectful way. You have to have enough wits about you to know how far to push things, and enough humour to take the stick. That said, I have no time to hang out on more than one extra board, and only really go on the Arse/RAWK etc boards to lurk when they are losing their shit. I have no particular interest in hanging out on another team's board if things are actually going well for them . Might be one reason why I've been hanging out on a Newcastle board.
Most boards run by adults have room for a few opposing fans. Any trolls get sniffed out sharpish, and there are a handful of long-time posters on Newcastle-Online - one guy from Villa, another couple from Everton, one Man U guy. The ones that last tend to be a bit older I think, and play by the rules above. It can be fun watching oppo fans start respectful then gradually let their mask slip - it's almost always Sunderland fans on there.
