There is, but I do think the point is a valid one, winning breeds confidence. We shouldn't bin the EL off by any stretch, but that doesn't mean we have to play our starting 11 in it. Much of the class of '92 were blooded in EL. I think we should integrate our promising youth in there.
We don't have to rest all of the starting 11, but resting key players for some of the EL games should give us the best of both Worlds.
I think getting the rotation right is like rocket science for our managers, possibly because the fall-off in quality where our kids and squad players are concerned is too pronounced.

I agree to an extent Jon, which is why I said we should rest key players for SOME of the EL games.

They need to be integrated so we have most of the regulars in to provide the experience and support to the younger players, it should alleviate much of the pressure they'd feel, rather than thrusting them into prominence en masse.

lol at all those guys wanting us to not take the EL seriously. If we're not good enough to compete at both leagues, then chances are we're not good enough to win one of them either. Throwing away the EL yet again would only risk bringing back that 'spursy' losers mentality fans of other teams insist we still have.

Do you guys want us to be like Leicester (wining the league once and letting that be it) or like Athletico (consistently challenging and competing against the monster teams in his league and CL until pretty much becoming one of them). Guess what, Athletico didn't reach that level by neglecting the EL ever. So please guys, fuck off already with that losers mentality... it will lead us nowhere.
Yeah, but look at the amount of rotating those Spanish clubs do in the league.

If you want to see Son, Sissoko, Trippier, etc. starting consistently in the league and you're cnfident we can challenge that way then so be it.

to be honest, to win the EL I reckon to win it we would need to field our strongest XI from the quarters, and if we are even closer to Chelsea by that time, playing our strongest XI in both comps will most probably end up with what we are used to for too long, NOTHING!.

don't get me wrong I would love to win the Europa League, and the FA Cup, but for it being our last season at the Lane as we all know it, winning the league would make me the happiest I have ever been.

by the time we play Gent, we will know where we stand a lot better in the league, by the time if successful and we reach the quarters, we will definitely know if we have a chance to win the PL, then we will need to decide which way to go, we have a great starting XI at the moment, we have a few very good squad members, but we definitely don't have the depth to take all 3 comps as serious as we all would like.

From Bluemoon, where the fans seem to be feeling much more chipper than a few days ago:

My take on this : Spurs are a good side, but, mucho overhyped. This fantastic football machine could have the same number of points on Saturday night, as a City side, who, if you believe the media/press are in chaos, with overrated manager and ageing and underperforming players.
Add to this the abject failure of Spuds in CL, and, it makes you wonder where the negative evaluations of City and such praise for spuds are coming from. I think City can win this one :)

Just checked the league table. We must be good if we're only 3 points behind this Harlem Globetrotter like, Bayern Real Barca Hotspur team I keep reading about. Or, if we're 'crap' then how are they only 3 in front of us? Either way, there doesn't appear to be a huge amount between the two teams and, like many City v Spurs games in the past, anything could happen tomorrow. I'm actually really looking forward to it.

There are a few posts of this nature - while what they say is true to a degree, they all seem to be missing the fact that after 6 games they were 6 points ahead of us only 8 games ago, and since the start of December they have taken only 12 points from 8 games compared to ourselves and Chelsea taking 21.

The only way we can get anything out of this game is by controlling the midfield. Simple as imo.

I don't know the solution to that, but these guys aren't Burnley.

They are a proper footballing side. I'm dreading this game.

This footballing side most seem to be shivering in their boots for went down twice to Monaco In CL and has only 4 away wins so far in PL.

After we thrash them Everton game would seem like a bad dream. :)

I believe Kane missed majority of the CL games and also Spurs had lot of injuries. Spurs may have just 4 away wins in PL so far, but they have lost only 4 away games since Aug2015.
What matters is their current form, not the form when key players were injured. As things stand, Kane is on fire, so is Alli & Eriksen and their back5 is brilliant. Add to this strength of Wanyama & Dembele. Only chink is at LCB. But not sure Vertonghen will be missed, given Wimmer played alright in Spurs win last year.

There is also some Spurs fan on there ('Primativ') who upset a few by saying that if they play Sterling and Sane as wing-backs (as suggested by a few posters) then Rose and Walker will have them for toast. Most of the natives had a go but a few actually conceded that Walker and Rose are pretty immense. One guy then said Bertrand is better than Rose .

But sadly, in the end he didn't and his good friend Jimmy Greaves joined him. They did a little dance after Jimmy scored on his debut against Joe Mercer's Shitty.
Greavesy was gutted he was sold and became a bitter alcoholic. He was probably drunk off his tits when he scored.

If I remember correctly, Greaves was already drinking too much by the time he was sold. Just before he was sold, Spurs lost an FA Cup tie to Blackpool and he played crap together with a few others who had been seen drinking at a pub the night before. Bill Nic dropped them all and Greaves was never re-instated in the 1st team.

While this is mostly off topic, I wanted to comment as it's an important point and it does tie into what the city fans have been saying. This is something that I broadly agree with, while at the same time thinking that we should rotate our team for the EL. It's about having the right players ready for the right games. We've got a big squad and we've got plenty of quality players to spread around the team. We don't need to be playing the same 11 every game, and we don't necessarily have to be worried about playing a "weakened" side either. We've got quality in spades.

Its exactly this mentality that has seen us fail to get into the CL consistently. Please dont compare Atletico to us. Squad depths etc were different. We have not had a quality squad to compete in CL and premier league this season let alone be hamstrung by a competition designed to keep a certain group of clubs in the CL and the rest outside of that group.

You think we can do the EL/FA cup and genuinely go for the title with our squad depth. Grow up and stop calling posters losers. If the EL was played on Tuesday/Wednesday then i would go along with your thinking.

I would rather be out of EL than in it.
