God every time I remember they’re filming All or Nothing at the Scum this season brings me out in sweats. Can you imagine if they beat us to 4th or - worse - win on Thursday ??

That said, if we were to nick it off them… ?

I think Top 4 is unlikely now tbh. A lot of fans hoping (expecting...) Newcastle will be the ones to do us a favour but they haven't shown enough to go up against the top teams yet. Even post takeover/transfer window the results aren't really any better in these games, this season they've taken a solitary point versus the 'big six' teams and in the process shipped 3+ goals on 7 occasions.

But we'll see what happens. Obviously we have to win Thursday night for a start. All we can do is take care of our business and wait for the rest to pan out.

A month ago I was confident of 4th, then we slipped up to Brighton and Brentford, and now I have no clue. It was a good point on Saturday but needed 3. I hope we can beat Arsenal and it rattles them a bit before their away trip to Newcastle on the Monday night which won't be easy. Hopefully Trippier will start as he came on yesterday. Everton are showing some fight so maybe they will do us a favour in their last fixture. It's gonna be a nervy finish. Win Thursday and who knows.

Obviously 4th place and finishing above the Gooners would be ideal but I would happy with 5th as long as Antonio will be with us all next season.

I think this idea that teams fighting for their lives are hard to play against is a myth. They’re fighting for their lives because they are poor. Crouch said recently that when you’ve got nothing to play for, you sometimes play better as you have no fear and total freedom. Obviously it can and does work the other way but Brentford/Brighton had little to play for and outplayed us! I ok was just thinking how were it not for Agueroooooo, QPR who had nothing to play for I believe would have drawn at City and denied them the league.

Newcastle at St James’ after a ‘special’ season is probably harder than if Arsenal had to play, say, Leeds away or Burnley/Everton (with the possible exception of Everton this year). That is our only hope but personally I think they’ll sneak past Newcastle and comfortably best Everton sadly.

People talk about lost points recently and as far back as Southampton at home but for me it’s now just been decision making in the last minute against Brighton and at Anfield. One of those goes for us it’s in our hands but we lacked the mentality on both fronts to stop Trossard and finish from the cross (PEH).

The lost home games and Burnley for me are examples of a lack of a mentality where we should say “if we can’t win, at least draw’. Look at how few draws we have as many of the losses should have been at least draws. We lack game management on this front, hell we were lucky not to lose late at Brentford. Conte can ask for as many players as he wants but for those that stay, they need to sort this out sharply.

If Arsenal make it, then it will grate seeing them in the UCL but I don’t see the top four as set in stone. We should have a good chance next year and should aim even higher.

edit just seen Arsenal have only drawn 3! But for us I think the point stands that we should have at least got draws when we were off colour against Burnley, Southampton and Brighton.

Obviously we have to win Thursday first but if we do will definitely change the momentum and think Newcastle will be well up for it, Howe has done a decent job but definitely won't want to end the season on a whimper if he is to keep the job with the obvious ambitions of the owners.
Can't see Everton helping us at all, they look sure to be safe by then and will consider job done and ready for the beach.

I think even if Everton are safe by the last game of the season, the dust would not have settled there. Expect a lot of personnel changes there in the summer (players, who knows maybe management/coaching, board level etc). That was a big shocking scare for them this season.

So they'll want to go in good stead into the summer, put themselves in the shop window etc and with no nerves because they are safe, they might just put in a performance.
I hope you are right, but it really bugs me that they have Crystal Palace at home less than 72h before their game against Arsenal. Look how much Conte talks about the importance of time to prepare for a game, especially a tough away fixture.

I wouldn't be surprised if Everton clinch their survival against Palace at home, and the big party at Merseyside can ensue. I would compare it to Fulham winning Luton Town 7-0 to win the Championship, then made a couple of changes for their last game against Sheffield United and lost 4-0.

Let's hope we beat them Thursday and that Newcastle can do a job on them on MNF.

After that spanking yesterday they will want to show up at home against a big team. It actually made me more confident that they will win than if they had held City yesterday. Southampton got beat 6-0 and then beat Arsenal 1-0. I can see something similar happening.

Your overall point still stands, but QPR did have everything to play for. Bolton failed to beat Stoke away on the final day of the season, had they won that game QPR would have got relegated. Hopefully Everton is not done by final game of the season.

For what its worth, Newcastles home form, particularly under Howe is pretty good. Only loss in 2022 was against Liverpool, 1-0.

But this is Arsenal, the ball will bounce of Sakas arm from the halfway line and end up in the back of the net.

Although Brighton and Brentford was poor, and we didn't capitalise on our good position, no-one expected Arse to take 9/9 against Wham, Chelsea and United. I thought 4 pts at best. It's gutting because they haven't even been playing well.

The Chelsea result especially.

Thought it would be a draw at the Bridge at least.

Well, VAR must rule it out then

The team & supporters will definitely turn up unlike Chelsea the other week. If the scum do win at St James Park they’ll have earned it!

But we need to take care of our business first, on Thursday. Can’t worry about how the rest pans out

They were very unlucky against Chelsea tbf. Should’ve had a penalty and havertz could’ve been sent off.

Quite surprised we are 11/10 I’d probably have had us at 6/4. But also quite surprised Arsenal are 10/11 to win at Newcastle I’m not even sure I make them favourites for that game if I do it would be marginal. St James will absolutely bouncing for that game let’s just hope it still matters.

CL 2024 will be 2 Extra places to countries that have best previous season as a whole. So if in place now 5th would get CL from PL other country probably be Spain. Pretty much guaranteed 5 places every season ?
