BAE, Parker, Ade, Kaboom, Naughton (walker needs to be rested now and then).... Just some players you know.

Not to mention, giving a rest to players who played midweek, who looked as though they needed it.

I'm not sure Parker is ahead of Sandro in AVB's plans and Walker and Naughton play in the same position.

I see your point but I'd still argue we haven't a squad deep enough to compete in every competition without it affecting league form.

It is not whether they are ahead in the pecking order or not, it is about whether they are available. AVB rotates his squad, so all players get a chance to play and players get a chance to rest.

It also means that we can cope with cup competitions and play a few of the up and coming youngsters on top, in a mixed team that is not weaken to much that can remain competitive.

There is no issue with us going for all the cups and all that is required, is planning and manager who knows what he is doing.

It is also very important to take these competitions seriously as it builds a winning and competing mentality in the players, which is seriously needed if in the future we are in champion league games and trying to remain competitive in both the league (to play in future cl's) and the cups. Something which Harry just did not have the ability to do and it showed on far to many occasions.

United have that because they've been winning since early 90s.

Arsenal have that because they've been winnings since Wenger took over.

Winning is ingrained at both these clubs.

Where are you basing your point that all our players come here for wages and want to fuck around on? Completely unsubstantiated bollocks.

We don't pay the wages of either Arsenal or United.

We don't get the turnover of either Arsenal or United.

Without constant Champions League football we cannot even think about paying the wages of either Arsenal or United.

We have been punching above our weight, punching above our financial limitations for years. Last year we were all about Modric and VdV but this year it's different. We're more a team. We control games and look to break them down.

We're in a much better position to progress than we were with Redknapp.

So, in essence, please stop talking rubbish Kd. This isn't the first time I've said this to you as you seem to be chatting bollocks everytime you post.

i highlighted this point you make more than rest cos i have to be honest i dont even know where to begin. i can name of top of my head at least 50 players who came to spurs with big reps and dont absolutely sweet fuck all to firstly justify fee been paid and secondly and more importantly improve not only himself and go onto better things but also the team.. spurs has been littered by flash fancy dans for as long as i am born which is think is alot older than u .

We're in a much better position to progress than we were with Redknapp???? on what do you base this on!!!? stupid comment but expect nothing else from u .

fact your getting on your high horse and looking down that big nose of yours again i find amusing so in playing the game, go fuck yourself. i give my opinion on how i see spurs and what i think of players. if u dont like it go do one... i find it quiet sad really that you have to funny my every comment i make but hey whatever blows your hair back.

Having not been able to catch the game on Sunday, I've just watched it on Football First. True it's no substitute for watching the whole match but it gives a pretty good flavour of the ebb and flow of proceedings, and with the benefit of hindsight to boot.

That being so, here's my two pence on the performance:
  • QPR were outstanding in the first half. Terrific pressing high up the pitch and crisp passing - some of the best football I've seen from an away side at the Lane in quite some time.
  • First half we were mediocre up until the goal went in; our passing fell apart somewhat after that.
  • For all their useful possession, QPR didn't really create any clear cut chances apart from the goal. The saves Friedel made were all from opportunistic attempts. I''d have been disappointed if he'd let in any of them.
  • Given that we defended reasonably well in the first half, I think people were overstating the badness of our first half performance. It wasn't a patch on the second half at the Emirates last season, for example (not that that's setting a high bar), or the last half hour of the FA cup semi final.
  • Second half we created some decent chances even before the lucky OG went in. The second goal was a terrific counter attack and from then on we should have scored more.
  • Overall a draw might have been a fair result; QPR didn't deserve to win over the course of the 90 minutes. The attempts stats bear that out.
  • It's been said enough already, but that Vertonghen challenge was genius.
  • Given the sale of VDV - and the fact we've got a midget on his own up front - taking our most potent attacking threat (Bale) out of the forward line was madness. Maybe he would do well at LB for Barca but even when not on top form he is pivotal to our attacking play.

Right, we might be flogging a dead horse here but,

For much of last season the common consensus was that we had a very good first 11 but a fair bit of deadwood that couldn't fill in the gaps. This was demonstrated by our early exit from the UEFA cup where we used the younger/squad players you suggest.

This season we have lost two brilliant players in Modric and VdV but hopefully replaced them with players good enough to be the equivalent to the other big clubs.

The question is have we improved the squad overall and I can't really say we have.

Think of it this way.

If Bale, Lennon or Defoe had been injured against Lazio who would have come in to replace them against QPR in such a way that the shape of the team wasn't compromised?

It's all very well saying we need to manage games and rotate key players like City or United but we don't have the players (in particular) up front or on the wings to replace them with.

(I don't even believe the 'winning in cups breeds a winning mentality' issue. In the lasagne season we focussed entirely on the league and just missed out on the CL. If a manager tells his team his aims at the beginning of the season and tells them to ignore the press/pundits/message boards they need not worry about cup competition results).

At this point this season we are on a 4 game unbeaten run, one game better than last season.

Let's see if he matches Redknapps unbeaten run shall we, after all that's what Danny Boy has brought him to the club for isn't it?

No, he didn't bring him in to match HR, he brought him in to improve on him. It is my belief that he eventually will so I'm prepared to take a little rough with the smooth until he gets the squad ticking the way he wants.
DL is looking long term for the club rather than short term for the team.
