BBC Text
  1. 1634: GOAL- TOTTENHAM 0-1 QPR - Bobby Zamora (33 min)
It's been coming. Alejandro Faurlin slips a pass through to Bobby Zamora, who has escaped Jan Vertonghen's attention and he turns to slam the ball home and give QPR the lead.
  2. 1705: Tottenham have also made a change at the break, with Steven Caulker on for Gylfi Sigurdsson. Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has switched to a 4-4-2 formation.
  3. 1719:GOAL- TOTTENHAM 1-1 QPR - Alejandro Faurlin og
Spurs have seldom looked like scoring today so perhaps it was inevitable that QPR had to put the ball in the net for them. Steven Caulker heads a corner back across goal and poor Alejandro Faurlin, unsighted by Jermain Defoe, sees the ball hit him and fly into the net.
  4. 1721: GOAL - TOTTENHAM 2-1 QPR - Jermain Defoe Incredible. Spurs have been largely awful, but they are ahead. They break forward at pace and Jan Vertonghen plays in Gareth Bale who sees Julio Cesar push his shot on to the bar... the rebound falls nicely for the right man from Tottenham's point of view, though, as Jermain Defoe taps in from close range

Spurs eyeing first home win of the season against Hoops

Tottenham will hope to continue their recent revival in form with a London derby victory over QPR at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

After two home draws and an away defeat from their opening three games, Andre Villas-Boas' men finally kicked into life with a convincing 3-1 victory at Reading last Sunday.

That lifted them up to 10th place in the early Premier League table and they could climb as high as fourth with a win at the Lane on Sunday.

They followed up their display at the Madejski Stadium with a solid performance against Lazio in the Europa League on Thursday, with the eventual 0-0 scoreline looking a touch harsh on the London club, who had three goals disallowed.

They will hope to finally get a home win at the fourth time of asking against a QPR side that have picked up just three points from the last 45 available away from home in the Premier League.

Mark Hughes' men only stayed up on the final day of last season, with their last-gasp survival bid firmly based on their home form in the run-in.

It must have been worrying for Hughes then when, despite a summer of heavy investment, the club were humbled 5-0 by Swansea at Loftus Road on the opening day of the season.

Two points from their next three games is only a minor improvement, meaning the new faces at the club need to settle in quickly if they are to avoid another last-day survival battle.

Tottenham
Andre Villas-Boas will need to decide whether to recall veteran goalkeeper Brad Friedel or stick with new signing Hugo Lloris, who made his debut against Lazio on Thursday.

Emmanuel Adebayor will have his hamstring injury assessed right up until kick off while Kyle Naughton should be fit despite picking up a foot injury on Thursday.
Scott Parker, Heurelho Gomes, Jake Livermore, Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Younes Kaboul are all definitely out.

QPR

Striker Andy Johnson is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining a cruciate knee ligament injury against Chelsea last weekend.

On-loan defender Fabio also went off early last weekend with a hamstring complaint and is set to be replaced in the starting line-up by Nedum Onuoha.

Anton Ferdinand is struggling with a hamstring injury of his own, while new signing Stephane M'Bia, who could replace Ferdinand in defence, is also rated as doubtful.

Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas is expected to recall Brad Friedel, despite Hugo Lloris keeping a clean sheet against Lazio.

Emmanuel Adebayor and Kyle Naughton face fitness tests, but Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Scott Parker are still out.

QPR striker Andy Johnson is likely to miss most of the rest of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury against Chelsea.

Defenders Anton Ferdinand and Fabio both miss out with hamstring injuries.

These are two teams who can't wait for the season to settle into a genuine rhythm after a summer of upheaval.
Tottenham, with their new manager and six major new signings, have seen 10 first-team squad members leave and, like the rest of the Premier League, the opening weeks of the campaign fragmented by international call-ups.

QPR have seen virtually a whole new team arrive. They simply haven't bedded in yet. It's no surprise they haven't managed a win in their opening four top-flight matches for the first time in 11 years. Their chronic away form (it's been 10 months since their last away league victory) would suggest they won't get their first victory of the season at White Hart Lane, where they haven't triumphed since May 1994.

Andre Villas-Boas has been under incredible pressure since the day he arrived - some of it vitriolic. But there were signs against Reading and Lazio, when they had goals unfairly ruled out, that his team is finding form.
I wonder if this is the time to start Clint Dempsey and Mousa Dembele together in the league for the first time. Dempsey scored in Fulham's 6-0 home romp against QPR last season when the Cottagers did the double over their west London rivals.

With Jermain Defoe needing just two goals to reach 200 in his club career, Spurs should have too much guile and pace for the Rangers defence. Last week the Hoops kept a clean sheet against Chelsea. I can't see that happening again.

I think there will be goals. It could be a high-scoring affair, especially if Adel Taraabt is unleashed against his old side. It's always 'Stingray time' with him. As they famously said at the start of that old TV show: "Anything can happen in the next half hour!"

The mercurial Moroccan scored the winner against the run of play when the two clubs last met in April but then got himself sent off.

On a weekend when the game needs to see a public show of football coming together at Anfield in support for the Hillsborough victims, I hope the game at White Hart Lane doesn't boil over and spoil things

matchfacts.jpg

Head-to-head

  • Both clubs have won four of their 10 previous Premier League games.
  • QPR have not won at White Hart Lane since a 2-1 win in the Premier League in May 1994 - the Hoops have since only taken one point from nine in three league trips.
Tottenham
  • Spurs have failed to keep a clean sheet in their past four Premier League matches, conceding in the final 10 minutes in each of these games.
  • The recent 3-1 win at Reading was Andre Villas-Boas' first win as a manager in five Premier League matches.
  • Goalkeeper Brad Friedel has started 308 consecutive Premier League matches.
QPR
  • QPR have not won any of their past 15 away games in the Premier League, losing 12 and drawing three.
  • The club have also failed to win in their opening four matches of a top-flight season for the first time since 1991-92.
  • They have only once scored more than one goal in any of their past nine Premier League games - a 3-2 defeat away at Manchester City.

Never predict anything other than a Spurs win in these sots of games but I'm not for this Sunday. Think we'll be a little leggy after last night and I think QPR will be up for this - in a big way.

I'm going for a 0-0. We might just get over the line with a 1-0 but I really do think there is a price to pay when you play Thursday night and then Sunday if you can't make many changes.

Still very encouraged by last night - which has made me very happy. This isn't about instant gratification with AVB, but over time I think we'll be excellent if we stick with him and the players learn and develop more in terms of what he's trying to do.

After our last two home league outings, we have to start creating more chances and beating the lesser teams at home. I really think we have to push on from Reading, and getting 3 points on the board is a must before United next weekend. I think we'll get a result, and hopefully our first clean sheet of the season. 2-0.

Big game this. We really need to push on from our last two games to show that we're really moving forwards.

I really hope we win, (and expect we will, though i expect to win almost every game) but I think that is a key point. We'll probably continue to have some growing pains and some poor results, but I believe by the end of the season, and certainly by next year, we could be very good indeed. I doubt we'll finish in the top 4 this season but I don't really mind finishing a respectable 5th as long as we are moving in the right trajectory.

We're still missing a couple pieces but is there any doubt we'll be a stronger team as AVB gets more time with the squad (and we hopefully add some of those pieces)?

Harry did a pretty good job of freeing up the stars to do their thing, but it was always a stop-gap - Harry would go to England, Harry would retire, or we'd fall short and Modric/Bale/VDV would want to leave...there was always the danger that the next season we could fall off. Now Harry is gone, Modric and VDV HAVE left and weren't fully replaced, but the future looks bright as we've still got a solid core squad to work with for awhile and what appears to be a very good coach to develop them. Whether or not this season will be a good one, I believe next one will be.

Agree in the main mate. I would say Harry's methods had a shelf life as well, there was no real coherent plan even though we did witness some majestic nights and some enthralling/exciting football as well. We also witnessed a lot of open lottery style football as well though which cost us in the end, that became more prevalent than the expansive exciting stuff we got to witness.

Its interesting, some people complaining about last night, with comments like predictable and pedestrian, are comparing it to some of those nights were we were impressive, exciting and stylish under Harry. But the thing for me, whilst there will be an inevitable transitional period with AVB, I can see that what's he trying to do will prove more successful in the long run than what we had under Harry. He needs the time though, that's the most fundamental thing in all this. I'm sure Levy hasn't appointed him without realising that. Otherwise he's made a mistake.

Excellent stuff as always Chris (y)

As for the match, Im expecting it to be tough and for them to make it hard for us to break them down but I have faith that we can find our way through. Just hope the fans get behind the players and we dont all get nervous if its still 0-0 20 mins into the match.

I had a choice between getting a ticket for this game, or the Norwich game. I opted for Norwich.

In conclusion - I'm a dick. I have a feeling this will be a great performance and win.

I hadn't realised QPR had so many injuries at the back....good news for sure. Ok, I think we'll win :)

Probably means Clint Hill and Nelsen at the back for them I would assume?
