I said a few weeks ago that one of Lamela or Eriksen should start every european game, would mean they had to play 3 games every 2 weeks. They should both be fit enough for that at this stage of the season. Ditto our CBs and a central midfielder. It will mean less opportunities for some of the squad players (can't see Lennon, Stambouli, Paulinho or Chiriches getting many minutes as there is one reserve ahead of each of them at the moment) but would provide some continuity between the two sides and will help those coming in playing with players who are in Poch's first XI. The 11 subs thing hasn't seemed to work so far with one side looking fluid and one disjointed. This should help but will not lead to AVB style burnout with a core 7/8 players playing every game. It will also give the reserves a chance to shine playing alongside better players.

Of course. I could be completely wrong and we'll see Vlad, Paul, Lennon and Stambouli play at the weekend...

He has been playing non stop for about 3 years. I think he still has something to give us. He was our best player for a few games last term.

He was probably the best player on the pitch at home to Norwich, and was heading for a MotM display against Stoke until the King of the Orcs hacked him down. Not sure there were too many other performances of any note.

I certainly hope he can turn things around and do well at Spurs, but it's not looking good.

That's a very good point and I hadn't made that connection. Very likely right here.

As for the rest, I'm hoping Townsend on the left. I think he's better on the right, but Lamela on the left is a stunning waste of his talents. Townsend has more pace as is, and if a player is to play on their "traditional" side as a winger in the modern game, I think it's very important they have pace. Lamela doesn't have the incisive pace, but he does he good creativity moving from wide on his strong foot. I'm hoping to see a lot of rotation between Kane, Townsend, and Ade, with Lamela pulling the strings from his just wide of center position.

Think we'll actually see Kane left, Townsend right and Lamela in the 10. That is only what I think the starting positions will be, one thing we have seen from Poch is the three AMs rotating.

Well, I already get the 'good vibe' that tonight's thread will be fun even if we don't give them a spanking. :)

A stronger team than I expected, I take it Kane will play behind ade and I hope the fact they areboth pplaying tonight that it means Soldado is being rested for sunday.

Very surprised stambouli isn't starting.

Please no Clarke Carlisle tonight!!
Shouldn't be, he's doing the Everton match. My guess would be Townsend.

I can't see Townsend playing that well if he's got to comment on the game at the same time

Would have liked to seen Stambouli start, looks a decent player

Maybe the deal is that Capoue starts, plays a half and is subbed in the 2nd half by Stambouli, and in the PL match v Newcastle Capoue and Stambouli again share a CM place

I think it highly likely he'll start in the league on Sunday. Have to remember, he passed on some very solid options for us and Montepelier is a strong club. No way Poch didn't promise him favorable playing time prospects.

Front 4 could all interchange to be fair. Ade can drop wide left and swap with Kane up top. Hope we smash them regardless

This playing for three years straight thing has to stop! With that logic half of the overweight 20-40 year old males of this country have been playing 5 a side for 5 years straight. It's not continuous playing! The guy barely plays 20 minutes every few weeks.

Really need Lille to score so that Everton play a first team in their europa game before they play us
