Well I'll get behind him, but I will be leary of the lad based on the inconsistencies I have seen when he plays. I don't watch him week in and week out so I trust Juande. But damn shame he's not German and his last name isn't Adler.

Wonder if he's a replacement lined up for Cerny as number 2 and Robbo stays as number 1 ??? Eek

we will still need a new good young keeper then, someone who could fill the gap when he is away at the african nations every now and then!

never ehard of the guy, but glad ramos is moving quickly just not (if thsi is true) to get new players lined up

Speaking of the ACN, I thought the Egyptian keeper was the best in the competition, although he did admittedly have the assistance of a more than notional defence in front of him. He pulled off some great saves and just looked totally calm, assured and massively solid throughout. I'm sure that if he was playing in a top European league he would be regarded as one of the best around.

Kameni was outstanding in the final, but does have an alarming propensity to skittle his defenders and opposing forwards alike. But of all the keepers we've been linked with that I've actually watched (I've never seen Amelia) he looks the best prospect. Besides, I want an Ayatollah song.

His decision-making is on par with Robinson's. He's a typical African goalkeeper as well [racist, racist!] in that he makes spectacular saves for no reason and makes stupid decisions coupled with random comedy pieces of professional football.

Can't we just sign a good 'keeper?!?

in all honesty tho stoof, how much have you actually seen of him at espanyol?

I wouldnt have thought too much, and by all accounts and sources, (not referring to todays sun and mirror) he seems the business. I honestly would not have thought Ramos would be buying him if he was as inconsisent as you have stated.

I don't watch Spanish football. I've said that loads of times.

All I've seen is the ANC - and I know that's akin to judging, say, Robinson on the European qualifiers but by all accounts they weren't that bad (apart from the Croatia game blip) - all I'm saying is he appears to be another typical crazy 'keeper?

Am I alone in thinking that? It just seems a strange choice for me, that's all.

Well...............I have seen more than enough of him at the ACN and various friendlies to say that this is a 'one step forward, 2 steps back' move.

He makes some brilliant saves (sometimes for the cameras), but can make the most ridiculous howlers. At the moment, most people would take their nan ahead of Robbo, so it's an improvement. But bearing in mind he'll be missing out January games every 2 years, I fail to see him as a permanent replacement.

I don't know about this fellow, but i do know Robbo's days are numbered.
He doesn't inspire confidence anymore!
Perhaps Huntelaar would have been better than this dude, but like Stoof - i don't watch Spanish footy. On top of that i don't watch French or dutch soccer....so....
So, if we had some1 else in goal yesterday, would any of those 4 goals be saved or parried???

fair nuff. Well we can only hope for the best.

One thing is for sure, as much as i have defended him, and defended him some more, Robbo is a liability, he has gone from getting us 10 points a season to losing us 10.

Even last night i thought he could maybe have done more for some of the chances and goals.

anyway thats another story for another day....

But i honestly think we need to put some faith in our management and scouting network. These guys work and look at players day in day out, and know a fuck load more about player abilitites than what we do - regardless of how much fm you play:grin:. They know we have a problem between the sticks and i am certain they would only look to buy stability, these guys arent stupid.........

I wouldnt write this guy off on the back of ANC matches, unless someone is watching him for club week in week out then it is difficult to comment on him.

I for one havent seen him play a match in Spain.

I take it you mean Stekelenburg, in which case the answer is, I don't think so. He's OK, but I haven't been that impressed. Maybe I've just been watching the wrong Ajax games. What I will say is that he's failed to hang on to a fair few shots that he's saved, and that would be far more severely punished in the EPL than the Eredivisie. I know it's something Robbo gets stick for, but this guy is worse, if anything.

And no, I don't think it would have made a blind bit of difference who we'd had in goal last night. Would Cech have done any better than Cudicini at the other end?

Ta for clarification! Dunno really about keepers - but i think that Cech may have saved at least Berba headed goal!
Who would you sign? Any good keepers out there? We do need one tho!!!

The crazier the better. I like talented mental keepers.

We are a team that accomodates flair and won't punish the occasional mistake - we are a flair team, not a results team.

If this guy is anything like James we've gotta get him (at the right price).

The problem with Robbo is that he no longer makes great saves, and is still unreliable.

On another note i think Gomez would be a great signing for us..

Agree with bubble07! Lets get buffon, given, Toldo, Dida, Casillas or even Cudicini.

Hes signed a new contract

Just saw the Sky Sports article saying that he's now reportedly going to stay.

Reading between the lines I think his agent used our supposed interest to negotiate better terms for a contract extension.

I note in the tabloid article that it was IMG (his agent company) admitting (i.e. discretely feeding to journo's) that he was negotiating with us. Sure enough, his club offer better terms.... Am I too cynical for this?

Kameni for £4.5m seems a snip, as long as he calms down a bit. I just think signing keepers is even more a minefield than signing strikers. Ask Ferguson!
