It's not just that tennis is high profile, it's also global

The likes of Nick Faldo, Stephen Hendry, Phil Taylor and Steve Redgrave been the top of their sports at one time or another and some over a long time span yet those aren't global sports. Golf maybe is.

Formula 1 is global so maybe Lewis Hamilton worth a mention

Called it

And the only clues you had were long-term British #1, 3 majors, including 2 Wimbledons, 2 Olympic gold medals, a Davis Cup triumph, the world #1 ranking, and first 3-time winner of SPOTY.

You're a genius! :D

To be fair, I thought they'd wait until he finished playing.

It wasn't a lot to go on!

Yeah like you I thought they might wait until he finished, but I suppose it makes sense whilst he is at his peak. Might feel a bit hollow several years down the line.

Will be interesting to see if he accepts it, assume he will, but not all scots are happy about receiving a knighthood.

Will the on-court scoreboards have to put Sir Andy Murray now? :)
Heard that he's asked Wimbledon not to call him 'Sir' until he's finished playing.

Imagine in the locker rooms they'll be using it to take the piss for quite a while :pompous::LOL::LOL::LOL:

Not to mention change of ends during the matches! "Sorry, Sir Andy; after you Sir Andy ..."

Brits going well in Sidney. Jo Konta through to the final against Radwanksa and even Dan Evans getting in on the act beating Thiem to get to the semis.

I wonder if Jo can kick on this year and snag a Grand Slam? Best chance for years as the women's division is weak at the moment.

I wouldn't be surprised if she did. She's got the game.

Dan, on the other hand ... (much as I've always liked the guy)

Great win for Dan (esp considering Thiem was #1 seed). Will be a great confidence boost ahead of the Aus Open

He finished about an hour ago. Good performance, too. He went for his shots - as ever - and didn't bottle it when he got his chance. Served out for the match to love. He could beat Muller too ...

Watched the Thiem game when I got home last night, looks like he's got a new level of inner belief and looked very impressive. Was expecting him to lose his temper and buckle when he was broken back twice at the start of the second but he kept calm and dug in like he'd been playing at this level his whole career.

His inside-out backhand has always been a weapon but it looks like he's learnt that he can pick his time to use it rather than try to hit a clean winner with every shot.

See Konta won her final too. Giddy times for British tennis. Can honestly say I never thought we'd have a female winner & see the mens #3 seed in an ATP final in the same week. Even making 2nd round of an ATP event (outside Queens) was unheard of a few years ago.

Brits used to get headlines for reaching the second round of Wimbledon!

Dan Evans following on from last week and how having the match of his life against Cilic. Problem with players like Cilic is they will battle to the end.

Edit: forget that, what a result.
