Plenty of examples šŸ˜€ not going to one example. So do you think that was a good window with no cb or striker signed and the Kane sale. You trust Levy?

Once again, multiple examples but you canā€™t show any.

Great question, itā€™s highlighting you arenā€™t actually reading most peopleā€™s posts however. As most people have said, no, overall itā€™s a poor window, Iā€™d say itā€™s about a 4/10 personally.

I think Udogie (who im counting as a new signing even if he wasnā€™t signed this window) is a massive upgrade but I think weā€™re lacking in quality back up for him.

I think Maddison is a great signing, and I think him coupled with Sarr and Biss absolutely transforms our midfield, genuinely levels and levels above where it was. Bentancur will add to that immensely, but will need time post injury. I would have liked Gallagher but it didnā€™t ever fell likely being heā€™s Chelsea, who knows.

CB I think we are really short, I donā€™t think just VDV was anywhere near enough for that position, and I think the drop off to Sanchez and Iā€™d say probably Davies (because I donā€™t think Dier plays) is huge. I think thatā€™s probably what costs us this season, an injury to Cuti or VDV that puts them out for any kind of extended period and I think we will drop off in quality immensely.

My hope is that the way we play now, I.E with attack in mind may save us a little if that happens, as Iā€™m hopeful the ball spends more time with us than running at our second choice CBā€™s. I think not getting another CB was a massive error tbh. Striker wise, there wasnā€™t a replacement for Harry available because heā€™s one of a kind, so we have to play differently with different players, and itā€™s been three games so as Iā€™ve said in other threads we see how that stands in January and go from there, but Iā€™ll give the current set longer than three games to work together. Replacement wise, I couldnā€™t tell you which top striker was available and attainable that would have massively uplifted us, Vlahović maybe suits the profile bit we wouldnā€™t know what we were getting u til he plays here for a bit, untested and canā€™t be guaranteed to have been a success, thatā€™s before we consider price etc.

So no, I donā€™t think itā€™s a great window, and no Iā€™m not happy with how things are going, but thatā€™s my point, I donā€™t think anyone is 100% happy, I just think thereā€™s a lot of people trying to be a realist about whatā€™s in front of them, and trying to work out how it may work in practice. Do I trust Levy? Not to get things right in every aspect, but then Iā€™ve never said Iā€™m happy with him either.

Surely the onus is on you to provide examples given youā€™re the one making a claim like ā€œLevy having God statusā€ among fans? Thatā€™s a big claim.

If you canā€™t provide any concrete examples then such a bold claim sounds like a delusional rant.

Iā€™m willing to give you the benefit of the doubt but letā€™s see some examples.

Itā€™ll be interesting to see how third parties view the window overall. Have been looking for some reviews but there doesnā€™t seem to be any published yet. Will keep searching.

Theyā€™ll pick up on the lack of CB & striker cover for sure but Iā€™m interested in an overall (more objective?) assessment.

Edit: 13th here!

Do people really care about rankings of transfers 3 games into the season.

I bet we were up the top last summer.

The only true judge will be over time.

I was only interested from the point of view of some objective (?) perspective alongside some of the more recent opinions in here based on the transfer window. Apologies.

I think youā€™re right mate, but I donā€™t think thereā€™s any issue the poster raising this, it is at least interesting to see how others view our window when most people in this thread will sit one side of the other regardless.

People keep mentioning that the top teams struggled to sell/get out their players so lets look at that:

Man Utd Sales: Henderson, Elanga, Fred, Kovar, Telles, Iqbar

Loaned out - Williams, Fernandez, Greenwood

Total players out - 9

Liverpool Sales: Henderson, Fabinho

Loaned out - Carvalho, Van Den Berg, Ramsay, Phillips, Williams

Total players out - 7

Arsenal Sales: Balogun, Xhaka, Turner, Trusty, Mari, Holding

Loaned out - Tierney, Tavares, Marquinhos, Lokonga, Okonkwo, Runarsson

Total players out - 12

Chelsea Sales - Havertz, Mount, Kovacic, Koulibaly, Pulisic, Mendy, Loftus Cheek, Ampadu, Hudson Odoi

Loaned out - Lukaku, Kepa, Ziyech, Santos, Angelo, Fofana, Hall, Slonina

Total players out - 17

Man City sales - Palmer, Mahrez, Laporte, Herrera

Loaned out - Cancelo, McAtee, Perrone, Kabore, Doyle, Wilson-Esbrand, Tedic

Total players out - 11

Now for us...

Spurs sales - Kane, Winks

Loaned players out - Spence, Tanganga, Reguilon, Rodon

Total players out - 6

Brighton had 16 out in total, Newcastle 10 and Villa also 6 just as an FYI.

We seem to be struggling to sell/loan out our players more than all the other teams around us (other than Villa). Why that is, I will leave that up to you to decide.
Good post thanks Rob. I've said elsewhere we're struggling to loan/sell for the obvious reasons.

Lack of quality of the player, age of player, contract length remaining, player happy to sit it out, player has no ambition to move with the writing on the wall, club doesn't have the manpower or relationships to get it done, new manager wanted to see them in action before making a decision. Plus more..

In reality every player should have a line on a piece of paper, that line is their useful life to the football club. The club knows all the factors, influences, health etc and opportunities and can look to replace this player or provide a 'handover' period - and has a joined up, proactive, data led, appropriate scouting method to do so.

We have not. That's on the club, the board, the chief exec, the owners.

I think it's me who owes you an apology.

My post comes across too aggressive.

I'm ok with our business, we have revamped a lot of our first 11 over the last 2 seasons. It looks unrecognisable now.

Sarr, Biss, madders, udogie, vicario, porro, romero, VDV have looked great.

The front 3 need to contribute more, I think Brennan Johnson will add a lot, and son will be shifted into striker.

Kulu and richy scoring will do a lot for their confidence.

Mid-table last season and we had the 6th-11th best transfer window. That puts us squarely mid-table again.
Iā€™d have to agree. In terms of transfers it doesnā€™t see us close the gap on those above us other than Utd. Youā€™re then relying on Ange to make the difference. Which he could.

It wouldnā€™t necessarily be down to Levyā€™s efforts in the market though and probably in spite of them.

Except that we massively underperformed last season. Take the same team and put Ange in charge of it, and we wouldnā€™t have finished 8th last season.

Take Kane out of it and weā€™d be relegatedā€¦

It's difficult to judge these things cos obviously the numbers are fudged and secretive, but FBRef has a list of PL players organised by salary. It's kind of interesting to see that there's about 100 players earning six figures a week - and of those, quite a few I imagine clubs would love to get rid of.

Sancho's on Ā£350k, Martial's on Ā£250k, Maguire on Ā£190k, Cucurella Ā£180k, Pepe Ā£140k, Malang Sarr on Ā£120k (???), Everton have Gomes & Dele, Villa have Digne & Coutinho, Wolves have Sarabia and Guedes - this is the double-edged sword. It means that Wolves have the money to get players like Nunes, but it also means no one outside of the league can cover their inflated salary if needed.

Like (again, these are all guesses and the numbers aren't exact) but there's 112 PL players on Ā£100k. Bundesliga has 29. La Liga 51. Serie A 24. Ligue 1 22. The disparity is mad.

Basically it's not just us, much as it may seem it. It's a byproduct of the Premier League becoming utterly absurd.

With Conte as manager, yes. Last summer we all thought we could get top 3, based on how we played that spring.

No way pur squad last season was 8th best.

IMO, whether planned or through luck, the best thing DL did this summer was to get Ange. That alone will be worth a few places in the table.

Lots of people here were genuinely talking us up as outsiders for the title.

The narrative changed as the season unfolded but most people were satisfied with the transfer window except for the glaring omission of a CB.

Fun story: I was on the phone to a premier league chief executive yesterday. I said I was surprised he was free to speak. He said, ā€œeverything that needs doing is in the hands of the relevant teamā€.

and then I thought of our own dear chap, no doubt pouring over performance data, then negotiating, then speaking to player agents, then sweeping the canteen floor or painting the lines on the training pitches.

Our new DOF cannot come soon enough.

Edit: provided he is given proper authority/control.
