Why would you be amazed? For me, it seems obvious we prioritise qualifying for the CL over anything else.

I don't think Levy is particularly worried about winning trophies.
Prioritise something is much different to telling Ange to pick a comedy side and write off the one cup we could conceivably win this season.

Levy has enough faults without people needing to make up imaginary grievances.

In all honesty I had no issue with the team pre match so I can't moan post match.

A point to make though that whilst I don't for one second think Levy tells managers what team to pick, I don't believe it's far fetched to believe that the managers bonuses and performance indicators are all skewed towards getting champions league football which makes domestic cups second choice in their head even if it's subconsciously.

I do wish so many wouldn't get angry /quiet based on one result or signing. Last night shouldn't be what tipped you over the edge with ENIC and also them throwing the odd shiny new toy shouldn't make you think everything is ok.

I can’t speak for the masses but my anger stems from us seemingly ignoring Ange Postecoglu’s top target and instead moving for a player out of the Barcelona bargain bin. If Johnson is Postecoglou’s top target, ignoring him and signing a winger on loan is entirely motivated by money and nothing else. I’d *maybe* understand it 5/6 years ago when we were moving stadiums but not anymore.

I was under the impression both were still the plan?

So genuine question. We sign Johnson tomorrow, what's your opinion of the last couple seasons transfer windows and first team transition?

If we sign Johnson and a centre back, then fair enough. I still think there’s plenty of questions that have been left unanswered by Levy/ENIC’s actions in previous transfer windows though. Specifically why we’ve still got £50m sitting in a random account gathering dust and why last summer we required a £150m cash injection to avoid having a transfer budget of £0.00 despite TV revenue, CL money and stadium revenue.

I don't think Levy is telling Ange who to play at all but I do think if Levy had said to Ange winning a trophy is our main priority at the beginning of the season, we wouldn't have seen the team we saw yesterday,.

We aren't city mate, we can't have a bench of 60m players. Our weakened second side was largely last season's first team, and full of internationals.

That they are shite is why they are now the b team.
Just because we can’t compete with City does not mean we can’t compete in the League Cup. Against Fulham. Not City. We waved the white flag and surrendered yet another cup. Do we all just pack up and go home because City have money? Why build the new stadium. Let’s play in the old ground and let City have their fun.

The problem with this thread is it only comes alive when something negative happens. It needs to be alive at all times, even when results are good till ENIC/levy f**k off and sell the club.

The past 20 years has shown us that they have no interest in winning things.

I completely agree. The pressure has to be consistent. I also completely disagree that it has to be kept outside of the ground. United protest inside the ground constantly and it's picked up by media for that reason. They still support the team and have one of the best away support in the league

I don't think that is true, I think they are not willing to gamble (that's what it is) transfer funds beyond financial prudence in pursuit of trophies.

Why is it a gamble?
is that what Arsenal and Liverpool do?
Bear in mind they aren’t funded by petro or nation states.
They scout and target players and have an active ambition each season to compete.
we built a new stadium. That was supposedly to enable us to compete.

And i think if we had one full season where we spent funds to supply the manager with a squad of real talent (as opposed to club signings, agent -led signings, cheap options and simply telling the manager to make do with the deadwood) then I think people would feel slightly differently

before the stadium we had to be prudent. Whilst it was being built we also had to be prudent. Now it’s built and we’re still being prudent. Which tells me that the stadium isn’t the problem anymore- it’s the mindset of the owners

It's a gamble because spending lots of money on players does not guarantee success - it may improve your chances of winning a trophy - don't disagree with that - but it does not guarantee it. So if you spend money in pursuit of something that cannot be guaranteed, it is a gamble.

I think there is significant middle ground between ‘guaranteed’ and ‘gambling’

Exactly why I posted this at the weekend…
Big picture, get him out. Doing the right things every few years just to keep us on the hook is not enough. It’s more a law of averages than good management. This man will sack Postecoglou when he needs real investment. That is what we are dealing with behind the distraction of the current buzz.

same old story. rinsed and repeated for years with this clown up top.

despite numerous 'he's changed' bollocks lines, we've sold our best player ever(ish) with 2 weeks of the window left, and now with 48hrs left are leaving the squad glaringly short.

the bloke is a parasite and cannot let go of the footballing side of things, of which he has no clue on and is a almost exclusice failure.

we need to get him out.
