What league are Wigan in now?
I'm sure their fans loved the cup win but would most likely rather still be a PL team.
West Ham are currently 8th in the table and "champions of Europe" but look how unhappy their fanbase seem to be.

Winning stuff is great and it's what we all want but apart from the odd exception, it's usually only the big team that win stuff.
We've finally got the finance and structure to properly compete with those so-called big clubs, so let's give us a chance and see what happens.

One of my old University pals is a Wigan fan and I’ve met a few of his mates (and even been to a few Wigan away games with them all). They absolutely would not swap their FA Cup win for making up the numbers in the PL.

Their FA Cup win was the greatest moment in the entire history of their club and way above realistic expectation for a club of Wigan’s size.

Eventually we need to take that step from being an “almost” club to being champions.

There are plenty of reasons to enjoy football, but the main aim of the game is to win and by proxy win trophies, otherwise what’s the point at the end of the day? We have to remember that.

Your analogy is a bit flawed too, no one expects Heath Town to win anything but when you look at everything around our club we are setup to be champions and that’s the only thing left for us to achieve to solidify our spot at the big boys table.

Our stadium, revenue and training facilities are already world class, it’s just the on field success that’s missing. No one is going to take us seriously until we finally win something.

I'm thinking, or at least hoping, that this is finally the stage we've got to.
It's taken a long time but we are now seemingly able to compete with the biggest clubs around financially, so this now has to be the time we take that final step. Hopefully we do.

And my analogy was more with regards to the poster saying "what's the point of supporting Spurs without trophies".
There's more to supporting a football club than what they win and let's be honest, we've only just arrived at a place where we're somewhere near to being on a level footing with the big boys.

If we aren't challenging for trophies over the next two seasons, I'll join in with the burning of Levy's head but at present, the future of the club is looking brighter than it's ever been so I'm willing to see how this new stage progresses.
I'm 48 and we've not won a lot during my lifetime, I'm hoping that's about to change and I can wait a year or so longer.

The issue is that we'll be judged on progression. We've finished top 4 numerous times now so trophies are the next step. It's really the only thing left to progress from the last 20+ years under ENIC. We've achieved everything but a trophy.

The business side seems to be running really well so that is the main thing. Hopefully we can get funding for that hotel to drive revenue up even further.

We have a manager were behind, have brought really well and are close to losing the old guard of big earners.

If we're at the stage like they are/were where we only need one or two in a window and Levy trusts Ange then maybe we would go big for a player too.

And at any rate, if you truly want to compete for the title you need top class players of proven quality, not just up and coming players with the potential to get there. The number of players of that calibre Levy has brought in during his 23 year tenure is exactly nil.
Hope springs eternal, but I won't believe Levy is changing his ways until I see it happening in front of me.

He has brought a few but agreed nowhere near enough and the spending has never been consistent enough to challenge.

i'm certainly on the fence when it comes to our Daniel, but the highlighted part is true no matter which side of the fence you are on.

We're in the honeymoon period at the moment same as Contes first season. We're a transfer window and a poor start away from potentially being back to where we were last year. Let's not float yet and wait and see what transpires.

100% if we'd hired someone like Ange after Poch and had properly recruited and re-shaped/tweaked the squad we could've won big things but instead we(Levy & co) let the squad rot, brought in 3 bad fit managers, hired clogger players to suit this defensive style, ended up with a complete mess of a squad that is taking another few years to 're-build', and thanks to Paratici and now Lange/Munn/Ange we are getting back on track but after wasting a good 4-5 years and failing to build on and capitalise on all the good work Poch and that squad did.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but it is true that Levy got the footballing decisions and set-up badly wrong from the end of Poch's reign onwards and he has to be held accountable for that, we are going in the right direction now but this summer we have to again back Ange and push on otherwise the usual cycle will repeat itself so Levy is not off the hook yet by any means.

I'd like to see us sign minimum 5 players for Ange this summer, 3-4 of top quality 1-2 younger with potential:

CM to replace PEH *assuming he leaves this summer*

Agree but ultimately Levy won’t be held accountable.

Ultimately we just have to hope he gets the transfer setup and head coach hire right in the present and makes the right decision next time he has to make one.

I think it properly started going tits before that and it was called at the time, i'm not entirely sure hindsight has much to do with it.

Having said that, again, what a very very strange bump.

If and when things go bad again, I guess there will be someone equally bitter amongst us anti-Levyites ready to step up
