Looks like Steven Gerrard is going to become Rangers manager.

To be fair, he is the last person to stop Brendan Rodgers from winning the league so it makes sense.

Idiotic appointment if true. Surely there have been enough of these ex-players being given big jobs too soon and it being a disaster for Chairmen to realise that it's not a good idea?

I can see why they would go for him. He's still a big name who could be a draw for players who are a step up from those they could get now, his links with Liverpool will probably mean that they'll end up with a couple of their players on loan there, and it's the SPL so he'll have a pretty good chance of finishing in the top two or three while he's learning.

Sunderland must have the record for the most managerial sackings.

I'm surprised. Who do they think they can get? Them going down is more to do with the state they were in before he joined than anything else.

They need to reset the club. Won't be surprised to see practically the entire squad moved on in the summer. They've been pretty dreadful individually and as a team, regardless of manager

That really is a poisoned chalice.

Although the one positive to look at is things might be easier to build up from League One as opposed to being battered every week in the Championship.

Looks like that's happening. They've also just announced that they've sold the club.

Re: Coleman at Sunderland.

"His departure also means the Black Cats will be entering a new campaign with a different boss for the eighth season running."

Wow. Could that be a record in Engliah football?

How about sacking the people who keep making all these appointments that fail ? Eight seasons eight different managers and eight mistakes by the board.

Well, they have. Short's sold the club and the new owner will be looking to do things completely differently by all accounts.

He was daft to take that job in the first place. After a long time in the wilderness, the Wales performance at the Euros meant his stock was the highest it's been in 10 years and he needed to ride that wave to get a decent job. Threw it all away by taking over a club that has zero chance of being a success.

The bloke who owns Eastleigh FC, currently playing in the National League, has been announced as the new owner of Sunderland - perhaps he'll make them a 'feeder club' to Eastleigh?

Makes a lot of sense when you think about it.
